Observe these image and construct the meaning.
Observe these image and construct the meaning.
Taj Mahal, one of the 7 wonders
of the world, is largely affected
by acid rain.
ss which is made of copper has
also been damaged by acid rain
becoming green.
Plants and Animals are pH Sensitive
Our body works within the pH range of 7.0 to 7.8. Living organisms can survive
only in a narrow range of pH change.
Plants and Animals are pH Sensitive
Plants and Animals are pH Sensitive
• When pH of rain water is less than 5.6, it is called acid rain.
• When acid rain flows into the rivers, it lowers the pH of the river water. The survival of
aquatic life in such rivers becomes difficult.
Plants and Animals are pH Sensitive
Effects of Acid Rain:-
• Effect on Water Bodies:
It affects the lives of aquatic plants and
animals as they need a specific pH level
of around 4.9 for their survival.
• Effect on the Forest:
It tends to damage the leaves of trees thus
making them vulnerable to insects,
extreme weather and diseases. It also
damages the bark and may arrest the

The atmosphere of venus is made up of thick white and yellowish clouds
of sulphuric acid. Do you think life can exist on this planet?
The atmosphere of venus is made up of thick white and yellowish clouds of
sulphuric acid. Do you think life can exist on this planet?
No, life does not possible on venus as due to atmosphere that contains H2SO4(Sulphuric
acid) that acts as a dehydrating agent and hydrate water molecules so there is no H2O
(Water) and Oxygen as the environment of earth. So it is not possible on Venus.
Tooth decay , where bacteria works to decompose the calcium.
• Tooth enamel, made up of calcium hydroxyapatite (a crystalline form of calcium
phosphate) is the hardest substance in the body. It does not dissolve in water, but is
corroded when the pH in the mouth is below 5.5.
pH change as the cause of Tooth Decay
• Bacteria present in the mouth produce acids by degradation of sugar and food
particles remaining in the mouth after eating.
pH change as the cause of Tooth Decay
• The best way to prevent this is to clean the
mouth after eating food.
• Using toothpastes, which are generally
basic, for cleaning the teeth can neutralize
the excess acid and prevent tooth decay.

Honey Bee Wasp
Ant
• Defense weapon of Bee and Ant:
Self defence by Animals through Chemical Warfare
Bees and red ants both contain formic acid. When bees or red ants bite humans,
they send acid into our bodies. This acid creates pain and a burning sensation.
•Defense weapon of Bee and Ant:
Self defence by Animals through Chemical Warfare
•A suitable base in the form of calcium hydroxide (lime paste
available at home) is applied to neutralize the formic acid
and reduce the pain.
• Nettle leaves also contain
methanoic acid, which
resulting in pain and
irritation near the stung
area.
• In such case also rubbing
of mild base, such as
slaked lime, baking
powder, etc. gives relief to
the victim from pain.
