The After School Program (ACES) provides educational support for students at Weinland Park Elementary through after school and in-school programs with a vision of developing future community leaders. The mission is to provide innovative learning opportunities through programming that promotes strong academic and life skills. ACES serves about a quarter of students during afterschool and all students during the school day. Programming includes tutoring, homework help, health/wellness activities, and partnerships with community organizations. Defined outcomes show 80% and 100% of ACES students met academic goals in 2011 and 2012 respectively. [END SUMMARY]

Wanakha Central School is located in a remote area at high elevation, with many students having to walk long distances to school. Cleanliness was a persistent issue, especially among younger students. As part of a Design for Change initiative, senior students adopted younger students to help keep them clean through regular checks, haircuts, and lunch together. Funds were raised and supplies purchased. The program was a success, with students sharing their experience with other schools. Ongoing plans include continued monitoring, raising more funds for supplies, and occasional baths for younger students.

The school's self-reliance and community involvement have led to improved hygiene, sanitation, and student well-being.

Ánimo Western Middle School is a special learning community because of our amazing staff and the families we serve. We are a public charter school that is dedicated to serve our local community. Our mission is to prepare every student for High School, College, Leadership and Life. We are a small learning community that serves approximately 645 families. Our mission is to provide a high caliber education characterized by Rigor, Relevance and Relationships to every student.
Along with providing strategic intervention and enrichment courses to ensure students are prepared for High School and College, our student also have opportunities to participate in after school programs like tutoring, dance, baseball, soccer, basketball and field trips to colleges and universities. Our staff possesses a strong passion for excellence, and an unwavering belief in the potential of each of our students. We understand that to be successful in meeting our mission we must work closely with and serve our community and parents.

Ten Community Resources for Families and Students
ARC – After-school program for Henry Clay students, offering arts programs, dancing, music and health/fitness.
Weingart YMCA – A Wellness and Aquatic Center with camps for sports and swimming, and other programs that help the students at Henry Clay Middle School
Los Angeles Southwest College – The college offers the Young Scholars Summer Camp Youth program, and also hosts day camps and academic tutoring
LA Kids – A program under the LA Department of Parks and Recreation offering summer camps, basketball, softball, and soccer, coaching emphasizes teamwork and leadership. Especially good for low-income families, it provides free uniforms
Watts/Willowbrook Boys and Girls Club – Numerous programs include low-cost after-school care, arts and crafts, academic support, and leadership classes
El Camino College – The Kid’s College provides programs in math, English and science, and also music and dance classes

Canada's tooth fairy update
The Saskatchewan Oral Health Coalition and Canada's Tooth Fairy provided a Tooth Fairy 101 Community Education Kit to 25 schools in Dakota Dunes to educate students about preventing tooth decay. Over 100 students in grades 5-7 were trained to use the kit, which includes lesson plans and materials like a giant toothbrush. The students then presented the lessons to younger students and distributed 2500 toothbrushes. Feedback was collected on the success of the program in educating children about dental health.

- 2. Vision ~ All children in Godman Guild’s service area will be proficient in their education and life skills in order to become our future community leaders. Mission ~ The mission of A.C.E.S. is to provide students with innovative opportunities for learning through after school programming that promotes strong academic, social and leadership skills. Elevator Speech ~ ACES provides in school and after school educational support for students at Weinland Park Elementary. This is accomplished through fun hands-on practical application; building skills to support students through to High School graduation.

Our Target Audience • A.C.E.S. serves approximately one quarter of Weinland Park Elementary School’s student population (90 students) during after school program. • A.C.E.S. serves 100% of Weinland Park students and teachers during the school day. • Through partnerships, A.C.E.S. offers family events to all families at Weinland Park Elementary and within the Weinland Park Community.

Tutoring: • Daily tutoring and enrichments are provided in the areas of language arts and STEM. • The Academic Specialist and Student Education Specialists develop individualized tutoring plans based on academic needs of students. • Program volunteers work with students to target specific needs in the areas of reading and math. Homework Help: • Provided daily with one on one support to low achieving students. Health and Wellness/ Violence Prevention: • Students are exposed weekly to health and wellness topics such as physical fitness, nutrition, and healthy cooking. • Guest speakers are brought in to address the many areas of wellness: safety, fire safety, tobacco, drug education, yoga, karate, first aid, health screenings, and personal hygiene.
