1. OrboCAR Accura XV™
Leveraging Next Generation Recognition (NGR) Technology
for check processing workflows
Underutilized Technology
Teller image capture (TIC), branch image
capture (BIC) and remote deposit capture (RDC) performance requirements
have changed significantly over the past
several years. During this time, check
recognition technologies have evolved
to support the goals of straight-throughprocessing. Unfortunately, many financial institutions (FI’s) have not taken
advantage of these recognition developments due to prioritization of enterprise
projects, leaving check processing environments “under-optimized”.
Market Overview
The adoption of TIC is now gaining
steam in a wider range of financial institutions, but is not yet close to being the
defacto standard.
There is no consensus for large FI’s regarding optimal capture methodology.
Blended environments with BIC, regional
and remote branch locations (referred to
as popcorn sites by some) are popular.
Community and regional financial institutions invested heavily in check processing three to ten years ago. There are
many highly efficient operations in place,
where cross training and high employee utilization has improved the efficiency
ratios for these organizations. Unfortunately, many in this segment experience
high levels of inefficiency due to peaks
and valleys in volume. This causes over
staffing and management challenges.
One constant remains in all of these environments: the business case is dependent on automation/recognition rates.
Unfortunately, many FI’s are still in the
70% range or do not even investigate
CAR/LAR performance. The potential
for significant efficiency gains remains.
Solution Set
Since 1996, Orbograph has been the
leader in solution-oriented check recognition systems. Our value-based approach combines a unique blend of
multi-engine technologies. Our business
partnership activities and client services
focus on superior field performance. As
the Orbograph suite has evolved, 20+
recognition-centric solutions have been
delivered.
OrboCAR XV, our 15th anniversary recognition solution, is field proven delivering hundreds of clients over 90% read
rate with 99% accuracy across a wide
range of scanners and diverse bank
document mix. Check read rates in version 1.2 have climbed to as high as 95%
depending on the mix. Additionally, Accura XV-based image quality/usability
(IQUA) tests improve detection rates of
image defects.
Now with Orbograph’s new NGR Technology, Accura XV’s V100 mode attains
virtually 100% read rates on small transactions in TIC. Meanwhile, large transaction misread levels can be tuned to as
low as 2 per 1000 items.
Packaging
Accura XV is the foundation for all Orbograph Solutions including:
• Centralized High-Speed Recognition
• Centralized IQUA (Reco and NonReco Users)
• Distributed Recognition for installation on remote desktops
• Amount Verification
• Automation Services and Automation for RDC/Check Cashers/POS
For financial institutions who choose not
to purchase Accura XV via capital investment with ongoing maintenance, Accura XV can be obtained within the Orbograph Automation options.
New 2.0 Capabilities
Breakthrough capabilities in 2.0 include:
• V100: Virtually 100% recognition on
small transactions
• Dynamic Thresholding: Updates scoring thresholds real-time as varying deposit sizes are encountered
“Next Generation Technology from Orbograph provides virtually 100% performance at the teller”
2. • Balancing Optimizer: Separate API
call that scores items for accuracy
and offers a new transaction order.
Also applicable for commercial RDC
Robust Feature Set
• Item Verification: Identifies misread
and miskeyed items for streamlined
balancing in large deposits
• Accura XV Portal: Interactive charts
and graphs calculate read rate
and misread rates at a document,
branch and teller level
• OrboTool: ICR (Intelligent Character
Recognition) tool creates definition
templates: Document types, multiple fields, TEXT ID for non-MICR or
similar MICR items and front/back
of image
• ALR: Automatic Layout Recognition
identifies item type and field location without document templates,
assigns deposit tickets as credits
• MICR Recognition: Streamlines reject repair
• Full Page Documents: Field recognition on letter, legal and A4 sized
documents now supported
• OCR Recognition: Reads many OCR
formats as well as teller validations,
front or back of image
Field Performance
Field performance optimization is accomplished initially through Orbograph’s
I-Care service (See Client Services brochure). Managed Recognition is a Client
Services program to guarantee performance over time. Both are available for
the following environments:
• Centralized POD operations include
deposit and cash tickets, general ledger items, loan coupons, and
many more. Each requires a specific item definition and management
of read rate and misread.
• Distributed environments are chal-
lenging due to many scanners
deployed. OrboTool definitions are
pushed to each location.
• Remittance sites perform exceptionally due to high percentages of
checks. OrboTool reads remittance
coupons and OCR lines.
Tangible Benefits
• Data entry labor est. 2.2¢ per item
keyed (large bank benchmark number)
• $.1862 per recognition error
• Average savings per 10% read rate
per 100,000 items/day: $55,000
• Average savings per .5% misread rate per 100,000 items/day:
$23,250 (Global Concepts Benchmark Data)
Intangible Benefits
• Highly reliable technology
• Streamlined processes and FTE utilization
• Reliable and robust architecture
allowing full redundancy of all
its components positioned for growth
• The last recognition technology you
will ever need
• The Accura XV solution has a wide
range of interfaces available for
technical consideration including
C++, C#, Java, and .NET
