By now, enterprises understand the value of Software as a Service (SaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), but there still is much confusion about Platform as a Service (PaaS). This confusion is one reason why enterprises have been slow to adopt PaaS. Why is there so much confusion? This presentation will help clear up the confusion of all the different types of PaaS offerings in the marketplace.

There is a lot of buzz about “cloud native.” Becoming cloud native means changing how we think about, develop, and deploy applications. This shift impacts the structure of organizations, as teams align to common business outcomes. Chip Childers explains why a successful cloud native approach requires a platform: a platform allows you to rethink how IT supports the application development teams. Chip explores what it means to be truly cloud native, what it takes to get there, and how a platform can make it all work.

Using cloud-native application services is easy, it “just works”. Many customers choose them without giving it a second thought. However, these app services vary from cloud to cloud, with differing levels of quality and numbers of features making visibility and control inconsistent across clouds. And then there is cost…it’s hard to know what your deployment is going to cost until after it’s been built. Often the services must be compiled in a piecemeal fashion and many products carry bloated code that increases costs. Finally, security is often an afterthought. Moreover, SecOps teams struggle to keep up with the breakneck app release cadence that has become typical. Often they are seen as DevOps viewing them as a major constraint on the ability to deliver software quickly. In this workshop, we showcase the NGINX solutions for cloud native Kubernetes that will allow you to: - Reduce tool sprawl and provide a standard set of services - Control costs with lightweight and easy solutions - Bring teams together with automation and self‑service capabilities

Keynote presented at the CloudStack Collaboration Conference EU 2014 CloudStack might be best known for it's deployments within the service provider industry, but the adoption of CloudStack for private and community clouds has led to some fascinating user stories. We don't hear as much about CloudStack's use within private clouds, perhaps because the platform is so foundational yet easy to implement. But don't be fooled, organizations around the globe are relying on CloudStack to be the core of their agile infrastructure strategy. Come pull back the curtain…

Cloud Native is more than a set of tools. It is a full architecture, a philosophical approach for building applications that take full advantage of cloud computing and a organisational change. Going Cloud Native requires an organisation to shift not only its tech stack but also its culture, processes and team setup. In this talk I'll dive into possible operating models for Cloud Native Systems.

IT organizations are under continual pressure to develop and deliver high-quality applications – at speed - in order to provide key competitive advantage for their company. They’ve adopted Agile and DevOps practices. But particularly for large organizations with complex application portfolios or compliance pressures, these practices have yet to fulfill the promise of enhancing an organization’s ability to continually deliver customer value. Agile has improved development and test; and DevOps has streamlined getting code into production. But these advances have been localized improvements; to get to the next step software delivery leaders must take a more holistic approach to improving the entire lifecycle. In this webinar guest speaker, Forrester Senior Analyst Christopher Condo will present his analysis of practices used in modern application delivery and will describe how creating an integrated value stream can help organizations regain their focus on the delivery of customer value.

For over 30 years, Parametric has been a leading provider of model-based portfolios to institutional and private investors, with unique implementation and customization expertise. Much like other cutting-edge financial services providers, Parametric operates with highly diverse, fast moving data from which they glean insights. Data sources range from benchmark providers to electronic trading participants to stock exchanges etc. The challenge is to not just onboard the data but also to figure out how to monetize it when the schemas are fast changing. This presents a problem to traditional architectures where large teams are needed to design the new ETL flow. Organizations that are able to quickly adapt to new schemas and data sources have a distinct competitive advantage. In this presentation and demo, Architects from Parametric , Chris Gambino & Vamsi Chemitiganti will present the data architecture designed in response to this business challenge. We discuss the approach (and trade-offs) to pooling, managing, processing the data using the latest techniques in data ingestion & pre-processing. The overall best practices in creating a central data pool are also discussed. Quantitative analysts to have the most accurate and up to date information for their models to work on. Attendees will be able to draw on their experiences both from a business and technology standpoint on not just creating a centralized data platform but also being able to distribute it to different units.

The typical organizational model is that teams are in constant flux, are created for work, are only responsible for the change and are not empowered, or lack trust, to run products. A high performance organization model allows teams to take full responsibility for cost, compliance and security, and lets them own their own incidents. This improves quality, change failure rates, lower costs and leads to more happy employees. DevOps is about creating with the end in mind, cross-functional autonomous teams and end-tn-end responsibility. You build it, you run it. You break it, you fix it. This means you want to automate everything in a CI/CD pipeline. Roll-forward, don't roll-back. DevOps principles play an important role in a data-driven maturity model. Continuous prototyping and a data mindset and skills for everybody. In a Data Science Workflow combining input data and deriving the model features usually requires the most of the work, and lots of iterations before its done. Implement features one-by-one. So, start with a baseline model and compare this against more complex models, to see if additional complexity is worth the performance gain. The result of a data scientist is a trained model. Such a model contains 4 components: input data, derived features, chosen model type and hyperparameters. A trained model is always the combination of data and the code. So where do you run this trained model? Model management is versioning code but not the data. A model management server stores hyperparameters, performance metrics, metadata, trained models. IN a data science pipeline, we have two components for deployment: the application and the trained model. So we split the pipeline into parts: a build pipeline, a train pipeline and a deploy pipeline. A complete pipeline mapped to azure components would look largely like this: An Azure DevOps Build pipeline, an Azure ML Training pipeline and an Azure DevOps Release pipeline.

Most organizations start their DevOps journey by automating the flow of application code in their delivery pipeline and improving the speed of provisioning production-like environments. These competencies, while critical to increasing release velocity, fail to address a key element in the software development lifecycle—data. Ensuring that the right data is securely provisioned to the right environments at the right time is often addressed last, and not very effectively. This is a problem. Organizations can’t achieve a state of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) without first automating data delivery.

ScyllaDB has the potential to deliver impressive performance and scalability. The better you understand how it works, the more you can squeeze out of it. But before you squeeze, make sure you know what to monitor! Watch our experienced Postgres developer work through monitoring and performance strategies that help him understand what mistakes he’s made moving to NoSQL. And learn with him as our database performance expert offers friendly guidance on how to use monitoring and performance tuning to get his sample Rust application on the right track. This webinar focuses on using monitoring and performance tuning to discover and correct mistakes that commonly occur when developers move from SQL to NoSQL. For example: - Common issues getting up and running with the monitoring stack - Using the CQL optimizations dashboard - Common issues causing high latency in a node - Common issues causing replica imbalance - What a healthy system looks like in terms of memory - Key metrics to keep an eye on This isn’t “Death-by-Powerpoint.” We’ll walk through problems encountered while migrating a real application from Postgres to ScyllaDB – and try to fix them live as well.
