This document describes the position of Residential Education Graduate Assistant for Academic Success and Engagement at Oregon State University. The graduate assistant will assist the Associate Director of University Housing and Dining Services and Residential Education leadership team. Specific duties include coordinating academic programs, maintaining relationships with campus academic partners, providing training to residential staff, and developing resources to support student academic success and engagement. The position is for the 2010-2011 academic year and offers a monthly stipend, tuition remission, and on-campus housing in exchange for an average of 19.5 working hours per week.

the Associate Director, University Housing & Dining – Residential Education and Leadership Team in a variety of tasks.

The Graduate AssistantforAcademicSuccess andEngagementwillworkanaverage of 19.5 hours each week of
scheduledworktime inthe UHDSCentral Office andassistingwithacademic successandengagementinitiatives. Some
workhours maybe requiredbetween5:00 p.m.and 10:00 p.m.and on the weekend.
SpecificDutiesand Responsibilities:
Assistinthe coordinationof AcademicPartnerprogramsandeventsincluding:AcademicPartnerSummits,academic
recognitionof students (personalizedletterstohighachievingstudentseachterm),earlyalertactivitiessuchas
academicintervention letters, etc.
Maintainrelationshipswithandliaisewithvariouscampusacademic supportpartners,includingthe Collaborative
LearningCenter(CLC), the AcademicSuccessCenter(ASC), Educational OpportunitiesProgram(EOP),StudentSupport
Services(SSS),andCollege Assistance MigrantProgram(CAMP) staff,CareerServices, DisabilityAccessServices(DAS),
UniversityExploratoryStudiesProgram(UESP),andotherappropriate campuspartners.
Work withcampuspartners to provide on-goingcoordinationof tutoring,academiccoaching,traininganddevelopment
of studentstaff andstudentleaders aroundacademicsuccessandengagement issues. InconsultationwithResidential
EducationLeadership Team, RDsandCDs, provide shortinteractivedevelopmentmodulestobe presentedathall staff
meetings,hall councilmeetings,andUHDS studentleadertrainingsonthe topicsof Engagement,AcademicSupport
Resources,EarlyAlert,etc.
Provide trainingforRDs/CDsandRAson academicprogrammingduringfall trainingsessions,atone RA Inservice during
the year,and on-goingthroughattendingindividualhall staff developmentopportunities.
Be available asaresource to support,inconcertwiththe RD, the academicsuccessand engagementactivitiesinthe
respective livinggroup thatare beingspearheadedbythe SeniorRA orCD in the community. Conductoffice hours in
Central Office forstaff memberstoconnectregardingprogramsaswell asfor residentstoreceivepersonalizedattention
indevelopingastudyplan,time managementstrategy,andlearningpreference consultation.
Continuallydevelopthe academicprogrammingworkshop (“Re-Think”) curriculumandprovide
presentations/workshopsthroughoutthe term tomeetthe needsof the staff andresidents.

Work withINTOOSU, Intercultural StudentServices(ISS) and othercampusdepartments inassessingthe academic
needsof ourgrowingnumberof international andunderrepresented residents
In consultationwith the Directorof Residential Educationand/orResidential EducationLeadership Teamdevelop,and
potentiallyteachorco-teacha residential curriculumforresidentstocollaborate ontheiracademicexperience
throughoutthe firsttermand potentiallythroughoutthe yearinadditiontogoal setting,careerplanning,tracking
personal growth,etc
Serve asleadfacilitatorforan academicprogrammingwork group/committee comprisedof studentstaff and
professionalstaff members thatmeetsapproximatelyonce amonth
Work withprofessional staff toassessbuildinguse of designatedstudyspace andaccessto in-hall academictoolsand
resources(bulletinboards, studylounges,etc.)
