This document discusses the need for a framework to guide the development of smartphone applications aimed at changing health behaviors. It notes that while many such apps exist, they often lack key behavior change techniques and evidence-based strategies. A design science research methodology will be used to develop an initial framework based on literature, which will then be reviewed by experts and used to prototype an app to evaluate the framework's ability to guide effective behavior change app development. The framework aims to provide developers with guidance on incorporating behavior change best practices.
