Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is the analysis of fluid flow, heat transfer, and associated phenomena through computer-based simulation. CFD has a wide range of industrial and non-industrial applications, including aerodynamics of aircraft and vehicles, hydrodynamics of ships, wind loading on buildings, and cooling of electronic equipment. This document provides an abstract for a study project on CFD submitted by Gaurav Badaya to his professor, Mr. GF Chakraborty, on May 14, 2012.

Computational fluid dyanmics or CFD is the analysis of systems involving fluid flow, heat transfer and
associated phenomena such as chemical reactions by means of computer based simulation
The technique is very powerful and spans a wide range of industrial and non-industrial areas. Some
examples are:Aerodynamics of aircraft and vehicles, Hydrodynamics of ships etc.
The scope of this subject is very wide. As many of cars and other vehicles are tested against drag force by the
concepts of CFD. In case of building environment, whether it is internal or externa, it is used in wind loading
and heating/ventilation. In case electrical or electronics engineering, it is used in cooling of equipment
including microcircuits. Presently there is huge demand of this course in reputed companies.
