In Spain, the cannabis movement has been demanding a review of prohibitionist policies for over thirty years. The movement has taken advantage of gaps in the legal framework to set out a formula for cannabis clubs, in order to supply cannabis collectively. Clubs, among other requirements, may not make a profit. This text analyses the influence of socio-cultural normalisation of cannabis, the current social context (economic crisis) and hegemonic discourse (neoliberalism, consumerism, etc.) as being responsible for the opening of hundreds of clubs since 2011, especially in Barcelona. This has led to the emergence of club management models which do not conform to jurisprudence. This situation, along with the undeniable reality of cannabis use, has offered the cannabis movement a political opportunity to regulate clubs, an opportunity in which synergies have emerged in Catalonia, Navarre and the Basque country. Finally, it reflects on how prohibition has hampered the activities of clubs despite social and legal advances that have occurred in recent years.

Beware of Marijuana Stocks
Now that Colorado has legalized marijuana for recreational use, should you jump in with both feet or beware of marijuana stocks. We are, by the way, discussing investment in marijuana related businesses and not your own recreational use! Is there money to be made investing in marijuana stocks? Fundamental analysis of these stocks is, well, fundamental. Marijuana is legal for medical use in California and New York may also make medical marijuana legal. Colorado is the first to legalize the plant for recreational use but others may follow. Which businesses will be profitable and which will be able to scale up when the opportunity arises? But, before looking at a couple of stocks, here is a bit about the law in Colorado.
Colorado Marijuana Use Law
Colorado has two sets of laws regarding marijuana. These have to do with recreational use and medical use.
Colorado Amendment 64 states:
Adults aged twenty-one or older can grow up to three immature and three mature cannabis plants privately in a locked space, legally possess all cannabis from the plants they grow (as long as it stays where it was grown), legally possess up to one ounce of cannabis while traveling, and give as a gift up to one ounce to other citizens 21 years of age or older. Consumption is permitted in a manner similar to alcohol, with equivalent offenses proscribed for driving. Public consumption remains illegal. Amendment 64 also provides for licensing of cultivation facilities, product manufacturing facilities, testing facilities, and retail stores.
This law allows for sales of marijuana for recreational use, taxation of profits from these facilities, and various ordinances relating to such establishments. It is the potential for profit from recreational use of marijuana that is of primary interest for those investing in marijuana stocks. Beware of marijuana stocks that do not comply with the law in Colorado.

use of marijuana. Paul Stanford played a key role in
writing Oregon's Measure 91, which has legalized
marijuana statewide.
In November 2014, the state of Oregon legalized the
use, possession, and growth of marijuana by
individuals 21 years of age and older. The Control,
Regulation, and Taxation of Marijuana and Industrial
Hemp Act details the many specifics regarding who
may sell these substances and what restrictions the
state has placed on such activity.
3. Producers, processors, wholesalers, and
retailers may apply for licenses, which
when obtained place the business under
the regulatory control of the Oregon
Liquor Control Commission (OLCC).
The OLCC has the authority to limit the
number of licenses in a particular area
and has full control over which
businesses will gain approval.
4. It may also consult with lawmakers to
develop additional legislation including
driving under the influence laws,
production testing, and advertising
regulation. The state has also placed an
excise tax on wholesale marijuana sales
and has limited the amount of cannabis
a person can possess. The limit currently
stands at eight ounces of dried
marijuana and four plants.
