Bhoomika
We are an NGO based in the healthcare sector,
specifically for eye care. We aim to help all those who
suffer from visual impairments, especially those from
Dalit, Bahujan, and Adivasi (DBA) communities.
1997
Established by Dr.
Rath - super
cyclone relief
2007
First eye care
hospital and a
training center in
Odisha
Today
Completed 2.5 lakh
cataract surgeries,
set up a residential
school in Jajpur
District, and running a
project for menstrual
hygiene.
Our history
2022
50,000 surgeries, 15
base hospitals, 8 vision
centers, 1500 camps, 7
lakh eye screenings,
residential school,
menstrual hygiene
project, etc.
2025
1.5 lakh surgeries, 150
base hospitals, 100+
vision centers, 6000+
camps, 4 million+ eye
screenings, residential
co-ed school in Jajpur,
eye banks, etc.
And still
counting!
Our goal
— Hellen Keller
“Alone we can do so little;
together we can do so
much.”
Mission
To bring in free and
affordable healthcare to the
doorstep of the poor, tribal,
and aged through committed
service delivery, healthcare
education, training and
research.
Vision
To improve their quality of
life through the
restoration of vision and
by creating livelihood
opportunities
Values
1. Leave no one behind.
2. Vision Restoration.
3. Connecting knowledge.
4. Ecosystem
Development and
Strengthening.
Our philosophy

Jharkhand, Bihar, and
Assam
● Train 5000 girls in
paramedic science
● Train 120 optometrists per
year
● Females to run 50%
hospitals
● A tertiary care hospital with
an Eye Bank
Gurukul
A co-education residential
senior secondary school in
Odisha - 240 students
● Impart quality
knowledge and skills.
● Students from BPL,
SC/ST categories.
● Creating a support
system to escort them
through the process
Hygiene
Leveraging the strength
of our outreach ground
force
● Run awareness
programs
● Distribute hygiene
kits
Our projects
● India - Blind Capital of the World
● 32 million visually impaired
● 62.2% cases are caused by Cataract
● Reason: basic eye care services are not
accessible to everyone, especially to those in
rural and tribal areas.
● Niti Ayog Report: Deficit of over 125 million
surgeries.
● Solution - India needs an integrated, people-
centered eye care system
The eyecare ecosystem
● Providing free Cataract surgeries through our
15 charitable hospitals.
● Outreach program - regularly organizing
awareness campaigns and eye-camps in the
community. Referrals are made to the
hospital.
● Vision Centres - screening for all eye-care
related problems.
● Distribution of free prescription eyeglasses,
sunglasses post-surgery, medicines, etc.
● Commute to the hospital and lodging - also
free
Bhoomika Eyecare
1,50,000
The lives we aim to touch
Development Empowerment
Studies have shown how simple cataract
surgeries have resulted in an increase in
household income because once vision
problems are treated, people are able to be
more productive and eventually become
more financially-secure. This also
contributes significantly to reducing hunger
within the nation.
Factors such as class, caste, gender, etc.
shall not prevent them from getting the
services they have the right to. In the past
the project has touched over 130 million
lives, with over 2,34,000 cataract surgeries
successfully performed. We intend to
continue this work and also expand to
other states, taking these services to a
wider range of people in various states and
regions.
Impact and implications
● Senior Secondary School in the Jajpur district
- co-ed and residential.
● Students from marginalized backgrounds
who usually drop-out after 10th grade.
● Screening tests - determine 240 students
with potential.
● Making them opportunity and career-ready.
● Education - free of cost.
● Also taking care of - lodging, stationery, food
and nutrition, co-curriculars, etc.
● Curriculum: CBSE and mode of education
shall be in English.
Bhoomika Gurukul
● Leveraging strengths of the field outreach
teams. Women = 50% of the community.
● Menstrual hygiene is also a development
issue as many girls drop out of school upon
reaching puberty.
● Traditional means such as the use of ash, dry
leaves, etc. also endangers their physical
health - prevalence fo 60-70%.
● Project fixed cost - of human resources,
buses/vans to conduct awareness sessions.
● Potential of tying up with brands who make
menstrual hygiene products.
