1. ABOUT APOLLO PATHOLOGY CENTER
The development of Apollo Pathology Center package is carried out in the following phases :-
Problem Definition :
Aims :
To help employees enter ,modify and update records of doctors , patients , tests ,etc and their relevant
information .
 To facilitate easy viewing to the visitors ,of the facilities provided to them by the pathology center .
Limitations :
 Visitors can only view the information about the facilities available but cannot register themselves .For t
they will have to rely upon the employees .
 The backend language used is ORACLE 8i and thus any change , wanted in the database structure , will
require a good knowledge of the same . Thus a layman would be unable to do so .
Resources :
 Information regarding doctors , tests , etc , was collected from a pathology center (Kalyan Pathology
Center).
 The softwares used were :
Oracle 8i with SQL server - back end language
Visual Basic 6 - front end language
Notepad
MS Word
MS Visio
Various picture & Audio files( .BMP , .GIF , .ICU , etc.)

(ii) Feasibility Study :
The project is designed with two options , one for visitors and the other for the employees . The one
for the visitors will contain information about the doctors , patients , tests and test centers provided
by the Apollo pathology center

Print out receipts , test reports , view list of patients , doctors , tests and search information about a partic
patient , doctor or test .
For visitors :-
They can view information about doctors , tests and the patients .
Economic Feasibility Study :
Money would be spent on :-
the purchase of software like MS Visio , Oracle 8i , Visual Basic etc ,
the purchase of storage device like floppies and CDs ,
the download of picture and audio files ,
the purchase of various kinds of paper ( glossy , A4 , butter ) , file covers , ink for printers .
Benefits :-
Completion and presentation of project in a satisfactory manner .
(iii) System Analysis :
There is no present system that works for the clients . This system would be the first one .
Expectations from the new system :-
Easy data entry and retrieval , even by a layman .
Thorough provision for data management on various fields like doctors , patients , tests , suppliers , test
centers , technicians , samples , accounts , etc. as well as various printouts like data receipts , booking slips ,test
reports , etc .
The above mentioned requirements were arrived at after a through process of close dialogues , questionn
and interviews with prospective users .
The SOFTWARE REQUIREMENT SPECIFICATION of the project is as follows :-

After interviewing the system users extensively ,the following requirements have been
identified :-Facilitation of easy entry of data , its deletion , updating and viewing by laymen .
The data to be entered would be in the following categories :Patients , doctors , technicians , test
centres , samples collected for testing , suppliers , tests , inventory .The data fields should be such
that they cover each and every relevant detail of the respective category .Easy registration of
patients with the relevant personal details as well as the tests to be done and the booking slip and
receipt .Easy searching of a particular patient’s details by laymen .Easy viewing of information
about the tests offered by the pathology centre , the doctors and technicians available , suppliers
and the various test centres . We promise to provide the users with a project that fulfils

Development : Various forms and reports were designed on the system and were

4. connected (ODBC , Oracle 8i) . (vi) Testing : Testing of the package is done to observe
whether it behaves as per expectation . For the testing of a module or function , several test cases
are generated and the behavior of the package is observed to ensure that the output of any test case
is not different than expected .Testing is categorized as follows :Unit testing Integration testing
System testingUnit testing :Isolation testing was performed on all the modules for errors . The
code has been checked in the following two ways :-Code walkthrough :Various guidelines and rules
of the software used have been followed .Code inspection : The code for a module is checked in
terms of commonly made errors .This type of testing is carried out in the following two ways :-
Black Box Testing : Testing is done without bothering about the internal architecture of the module
.White Box Testing : Testing mainly focuses on the internal architecture of the module to find
errors and bugs in the code written . Integration Testing :In integration
testing various modules developed are integrated according to a certain plan and the test cases are
executed to check whether the various modules work as a single entity .System testing :After the
development of all the modules according to the requirements this final test is performed . The
objective of system testing is to determine whether the software performs as per requirements
mentioned in the SRS document . It is done in three phases :-Alpha Testing : The software product
containing all the modules are intermarried and the test cases are executed .Beta
Testing : The software product containing all the modules are tested in the presence of internal
guide .The suggestions and the problems are considered .Acceptance Testing :
After this final testing the package is installed at the customer’s site .ADVANTAGES of Apollo
pathology Center package :The package has been prepared using Oracle 8i and VB 6.0 that
provides Graphical User Interface (GUI) and User Friendly Environment (UFE) .The package
provides easy entry and retrieval of data about doctors , patients , tests , etc .The package is menu
driven and contains various shortcuts for quick access .error messages at appropriate places warn
the user of incorrect usage of the package . DISADVANTAGES of Apollo pathology Center
package :The package requires greater attention at the time of data entry .The package is user
dependent and cannot correct the entries itself These drawbacks were observed during testing of the
package and don’t interfere in the functioning of the system but result in low efficiency . There has
