This document discusses deploying the Abila MIP nonprofit accounting software in a private cloud. It outlines the benefits of a private cloud, such as increased reliability, security, scalability, and around-the-clock access to the software and data from any device. Moving to a private cloud allows an organization to focus on its mission rather than managing IT infrastructure. The document provides factors for nonprofits to consider when deciding whether a private cloud deployment of Abila MIP would provide benefits that justify the costs.

ADV Slides: Strategies for Transitioning to a Cloud-First EnterpriseDATAVERSITY
A great comfort with cloud deployment has emerged. Businesses are migrating databases to the cloud or building databases there as a result of scale challenges with the on-premises model, the cloud becoming the “center of gravity”, on-premises databases reaching capacity or emerging uses cases that are specific to the cloud. But not all organizations! And some struggle mightily with the move!
Learn about the factors that impact organizations when shifting data and applications to the cloud. What must you consider as you move significant applications and data to the cloud? This webinar will cover the major decision points that management needs to consider when moving to the cloud.
These include changes to the software model, development and quality assurance, recovery outage, and disaster recovery as well as new concerns about query performance and service levels, data interchange in the cloud, safe harbor and cross-border restrictions, and security and privacy.
We’ll also cover the new models for capacity planning and growth and staff responsibilities, the need for increased organizational change management, and how to pick targets for the journey.

Realize the Promise of Hybrid Cloud with Pure Storage (STG210-S) - AWS re:Inv...Amazon Web Services
CIOs have realized that it’s not a question of cloud or on premises—both are critical weapons for their success. Technology and architecture must facilitate using on premises and public cloud together. But today, that can be a challenge, and nowhere is it more evident than at the data tier. Data is the “heart” of the application, and if you can’t easily bridge and move data between on premises and cloud, making applications portable between the two is nearly impossible. In this session, learn how you can unify on premises and cloud with Pure Storage, making it possible to truly run a hybrid cloud storage architecture. This session is brought to you by AWS partner, Pure Storage.

Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.
I, a former op, would like to extend an invitation to all application developers to join the observability party will share these foundational concepts to build on:

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Thank you Wikipedia!
The idea of the cloud is that your software an the servers that they run on are no longer in your office.
All you need to worry about is the device that you will use to connect to and run your application. Abila MIP in this case.
- Application, Platform, Infrastructure
I hate when presenters read slides and this will hopefully be my only exception…
I will break this definition down on the next slides.
Computing resources: You all have them. We all think of them as servers. This includes not just the hardware but also the Windows user licenses, electricity, and the man hours required to deploy, maintain, backup, and upgrade hardware and software.
It is not uncommon to hear “Our server runs fine, we set it up and never need to touch it. It just works.” That makes me nervous because servers do not maintain themselves and if they are not maintained, you may be on the road to future trouble.

Why would you do that?
Your organization likely relies on trusted advisors today.

CPA’s / auditors
Payroll providers
Regardless of whether it is payroll or cloud computing, there has to be a sound reason to put your trust in someone external to your organization and that is what we will talk about today.

Cadillac analogy
Lease vs. buy your car
Purchase of extended warranties,
This is the real point of my presentation. Many of the folks that I talk to simply look at the price of the cloud and attempt to decide based on that alone.
There is a reason that you have invested in Abila MIP and don’t use Quickbooks. Quickbooks is great but Abila MIP provides many features that QB does not. Those features were important to your organization and as a result you made the investment in Abila.
Anyone could replicate this infrastructure but it would be very expensive
On that same note, we sometimes see orgs over buy when setting up their servers.
So, compare to what most companies do, hosting will be an increased fee
Compared to replicating the cloud infrastructure, the cloud is much cheaper.
Leasing car vs. buying. Nicer car when leasing.
