Cricket
kri-ket (noun)
Definition-a game played with a ball and boat by two terms of eleven players.
Ex- if you visit Assiniboine Park on a Sunday in summer you will see men in white
outfits playing cricket.
Sentence- When the cricket game went on the ball went up high and a guy caught
the ball. As people take the lint of his shirt everyone calls him a numskull. As he runs
away he finds a rupee on the floor and buys a falafel and runs again. When the man
ate the falafelhe was being finickyabout it. When the man got home he was
mnemonic of the screaming people.
Optimism
AWP-tih-miz-um (noun)
Definition-An indination to anticipate the best possible outcome.
Ex- Even though I never feed my dog at the dinner table, she always watches me
with great optimism.
Sentence-the guy won a lottery which he won 1 million dollars. He thought hat he could
feel optimism because he thought the girl wanted I’m and all she really wanted was
love and now she got it.
Palliate
PAL-ee-ayt (verb)
Definition-to cover by excuses and apologies.
Ex-Don’t try to palliate your constant lying by claiming that everybody lies.
Sentence-Don’t try to palliate yourself even though it’s your fault she broke my heart.
Obsequious
ob-SEC-kee-us (adjective)
Definition-Marked by or exhibiting a fawning attentiveness.
Ex-The executive brought with her an entourage obsequious assistant who would do
anything she asked of them.
Sentence- I make my obsequious servant give me KFC.
2. Doughty
DOW-tee (adjective)
Definition-marked by fearless resolution:valiant.
Ex-When little Liza saw the bullies picking on one of he younger boys the doughty
girl marched up to them and demanded that they stop.
Sentence-I saw these boys trying to beat up my friends. As I be a doughty boy I step
up my feet and tell the bullies to stop.
Finicky
FIN-ih-kee (adjective)
Definition-extremely or excessively particular or meticulous in taste or standards.
Ex-Pam found it challenging to come up with ideas for healthy meals that her young
son a finicky eater would enjoy.
Sentence-me and my friends went to a restaurant and I was being finicky about my
food.
Contumacious
Kahn-too-MAY-shus (adjective)
Definition-Stubbornly disobedient rebellious.
Ex-She sat still looking a little contumacious and very much indisposed to stir.
Sentence-My mom told me to say home but I was being contumacious to go to
Polo.
Nutmeg
NUT-meg (noun)
Definition-an aromatic seed produced by an evergreen tree (My ristica fragrans)
also: the ground seed as a spice.
Ex-Before I can make the pumpkin pie, I need to go buy cinnamon, ginger and
nutmeg.
Sentence- As I make a chocolate cookie I had to buy chocolate chip, flour and nutmeg.
Widdershins
WID-er-shinz (verb)
3. Definition-in a left-handed, wrong or contrary direction counter clockwise.
Ex-We turn and walked the perimeter of the gardens before turning around and
walking it again widdershins.
Sentence- As I bat a goal I run at the wrong widdershins. My couch yells and I go the
other way around.
Layman
LAY-mun (noun)
Definition- a person who does not belong to a particular profession or who is not
expert in some field.
Ex- The book is an introduction to physics that, despite its depth and details, is quite
accessible to the layman.
Sentence-As I look for a new job I found one who was to be a doctor realized that I
wasn’t layman to the job. So instead I got fired.
Stratagem
STRAT-a-jum (noun)
Definition- a cleverly contrived trick or scheme for gaining an end.
Ex-As a stratagem to get the kids to do their chores. Mel persuaded them to have a
race to see which child can finish first.
Sentence-As I have a stratagem to play a game. The game was to punch yourself as
hard as you can. When Jason did punched himself he simply fainted and I took his
money and ran.
Litany
lit-e-ne (noun)
Definition-any recital or account involving much repetition = prayer.
Ex-It was a sort of litany, a way to feel good.
Sentence- When you pass by the death of the place where someone you know died. The
litany of the remembrance just keeps coming back.
Thesis
thee-sis (noun)
Definition-the main proposition that a person (usually a scholar) attempts to prove
or defend.
4. Ex-Although I disagreed with the students thesis. I was impressed by the eloquence
of his writing.
Sentence-The thesis of all of the video was to bring Kony down. Know that you can
make a difference in the world and fight.
Lint
lint
Definition-fuzz consisting especially of short fibres of yarn and fabric.
Ex-The clothes dryer in my cousin’s apartment was clogged with brightly coloured
balls of lint.
Sentence-When the lint of the cats to was gone it got freaked out. When the cat saw
lint it was actually spaghetti.
Indite
in-Dyte (noun)
Definition-make u, compose.
Ex-“He proceeded to indite a note to Biddy with my love in it.”
Sentence- I indite a note to my friend George.
