2. The song that I decided to use is J. Cole’s song
‘Killers’ which was released in early 2011 before
his debut album in September of that year . It is
about how young males cans so easily become
killers and how it can affect them.
J. Cole is a well known artist in the hip hop
community now, and is considered being a
legend after releasing Born Sinner, and 2014
Forest Hills Drive. However at the time this song
was released, he was rarely known by the
mainstream society and was underrated.
3. The music video is about a young teen, who you see throughout the clips
as innocent, happy and loved by others. You then see him go through
abuse where his mood changes, and he becomes more distant and
angry. Whenever his mood is down his followed by a hooded figure. In
the final scene of the music video, the artist washes his hand and looks
into the mirror to see the hooded figure, threatening him with a pen.
The hooded figure reveals himself as him. The screen goes black. The
artist ( from the lip sync scene) is shown leaving the house. So you
never know who survived.
4. I want to include establishing shots of the environment, as well
lots of close up on the artist. The close ups are convention used
throughout most genres in a music video. I’m using close ups so
the audience can be directed to him.
For the editing I have to use After Fx to show two copies of my
artist ( the good in white, and the bad in the black hoody).
Moreover I would also like to play with the colour of my video. I
want to make my artist dull, pale, grey when his mood is down.
5. Even though the conventions of Hip Hop is to have a
flashy artist that has material things that we don’t, my
artist won’t be portrayed like this. My artist will simple
wear ‘normal’ clothes with minimal branding. This is
because I want to show my artist’s honesty and modesty.
Moreover, this is the usual style for most conscience hip
hop rappers in our generation.
6. Similar artists to mine, are Kendrick Lamar, Wale, Lupe Fiasco and Nas.
This is because they’re all conscience rappers who play on their lyricism, as
well has been all considered ‘legends amongst their fan bases. Moreover,
their fans listen to one or more of the other artists I mentioned. Therefore
my audience will be the same as theirs. There is no specific age group that
my artist makes music for. He make music to impact on everyone he can
reach. The audience however won’t be the typical mainstream audiences,
they specifically listen to conscience rappers, and have an opinion about
society today. They prefer the art of storytelling, the true essence of hip
hop, than trap and drill which are considered to be part of Hip Hop.
