is a song performed by American rock band The Killers. The song is featured on the group's debut album Hot Fuss and was written by Dave Keuning, Ronnie Vannucci Jr., Mark Stoermer and Brandon Flowers.
Lead singer Brandon Flowers refers to this song as quot;
Our most Vegas-influenced song on the album. Sin city, The Strip. It's where I grew up and of course it affects the songs I write. This song has a lot of sexual energyquot;
. When The Killers first started out, their music was little noticed by music-buyers and the media, which is why quot;
Somebody Told Mequot;
has been released twice in slightly different forms. The first, with the pink background cover, is the rarer version of the single as it was their first release of it; due to poor sales not as many were produced. When re-released, the cover-art sported a blue background colour and is the more common version of the single. The single peaked at #51 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The re-issued, blue edition of the single peaked at #3 in the UK.
Lyrics
I have certain initial ideas for certain lyrics within the song. The introduction music is going to play a huge part in the introducing of different characters within the video. The story begins the second the music does.
I'm breaking my back just to know your name – A meat shot of the singer going matrix, bending back over whilst singing.
Well somebody told me – A male and female character standing behind the singer as if a devil and an angel.
When all I wanna do is try – The male character on his knees begging whilst just legs of the other character are shown. In the end this ‘other character’ ends up being a man in drag.
7086600-914400
The Music Video
My music video is going to be story based, more specifically lyrics based. It is going to show my own interpretation of the lyrics whilst sticking to the concepts of a typical indie pop video according to the research I have done. I am going use elements of the band and meat shots to strengthen the video in accordance with typical features of the indie genre. But I am also going to challenge some conventions through the illustration and pictures within the video to tell the story that I think the lyrics intend to show. I’m going to use constant changes in character and gender of characters to show the overall meaning of the song that I think surrounds sexuality. The mise en scene is going to play a huge part in this as everything that is shown on screen has to portray the idea that I have in my mind. I intend to keep the audience watching all the way through by using confusion and shock as a way to do this.
My music video is going to take inspiration from the 80’s music scene as this was a time of creativity and doing something different. Artists such as Queen, David Bowie and Blondie have all had different parts in inspiring my initial ideas for my music video. Other up to date artists such as The Killers themselves and Lady Gaga are also artists I have taken inspiration from. The focus is going to be on the bold colours, the shock factor and just doing something different whilst also staying true to the indie pop culture. Sexuality will be a constant all the way through the video with other issues such as gender and age appearing in places too.
52578004381591440041910320040041910
