Technology Sea Change - Waving or Drowning?Richard Wallis
This document discusses technology adoption and trends in library systems. It notes that libraries have been reacting to customer pressures and focusing on integration. Key technologies mentioned include cloud computing, linked data, and next generation online public access catalogs. The document encourages rethinking approaches and focusing on shared innovation between people and technology to better serve library patrons.
The document provides tips for organizations on conducting penetration testing of their IT infrastructure on a regular basis. It recommends testing at least quarterly or whenever there are significant changes to help identify vulnerabilities before attackers. When testing, companies should consider their goals and critical assets to protect, choose tools that their security team can use effectively, ensure all testing is properly authorized, and focus remediation efforts on addressing entire attack paths discovered rather than individual vulnerabilities.
The document discusses issues with current wearable fitness trackers. It notes that most trackers fail what it calls the "girlfriend/mum test" as they are not stylish enough for many users. It also criticizes trackers for having arbitrary measurements, inconsistent definitions of a day, and requiring manual sleep mode activation. While future trackers may be more attractive and capable, regulatory agencies may also become more involved as devices take on more health monitoring functions.

Applying principles of chaos engineering to serverless (O'Reilly Software Arc...Yan Cui
This document summarizes a talk on applying principles of chaos engineering to serverless applications. It discusses defining steady state, injecting realistic failures like latency and errors, and using controlled experiments to build confidence in a system's ability to withstand failures in production. Specifically for serverless, it addresses challenges like smaller units of deployment and many managed services, and demonstrates how to inject latency and errors at different points to test failure handling. The goal is learning from failures, not intentionally breaking systems, so containment is important.

Reducing the HSE and productivity risks from plant and equipment fluid spills, by taking action on the results of spill incident analysis, is in the interest of every astute mine manager. From a study over a year long, on a resource construction site with more than 20 types of heavy plant items (and 150 individual items), the plant and equipment most vulnerable to spills were loaders and excavators, and failing hydraulic hoses, o-rings, and hydraulic hose couplings represented 50% of the specific spill sources. The take home? The rigour of inspection of hydraulic hoses and particularly their fittings is vital. Operations should increase the sharing of lessons learnt from previous spill events, and for managers and supervisors, enhance the reward and recognition of operators actively preventing leaks through early reporting. It’s healthy for Health and safety professionals consider the impacts of spills even though the impacts may be more obvious on the environment.
Condition Monitoring of DC Motor using Artificial Intelligence Techniqueijsrd.com
The complexity of most steel industry always tends to create a problem in monitoring and supervision system. Prompt fault detection and diagnosis is a best way to handle and tackle this problem. Dc motor plays a very vital role in steel industry and there is a strong demand for their reliable and safe operation. The history of fault diagnosis and protection of electrical machines is as old as such machines themselves. However, nowadays, condition monitoring of electrical machines has become increasingly essential. It plays a very important role in their safe operation and helps to avoid heavy production losses in industry. The conditioning monitoring and fault-detection techniques of electrical machines have moved in recent years into artificial intelligence techniques. When an artificial intelligence technique is used, fault detection and evaluation can be accomplished without an expert. In this paper, artificial intelligence (AI) techniques are used to build a condition monitoring system that has incremental learning capabilities. The condition-monitoring of dc motor using AI technique schemes have concentrated on sensing specific failure modes in field windings.

Fault Tree Analysis in Maintenance Principlessshoaib1
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) is a deductive reasoning technique that uses a graphic model called a fault tree to display combinations of equipment failures and human errors that can result in an accident event. The fault tree breaks down an accident into basic causes to identify preventive measures. FTA provides a listing of minimum sets of failures sufficient to cause the event. It is used in design to uncover hidden failures and in operation to study potential accident combinations. FTA requires understanding system functions, failure modes, and probabilistic data when evaluating fault trees quantitatively.

Advance Drive Interface, Brake Health MonitorIRJET Journal
This document describes a proposed brake health monitor system that would provide drivers with information about the condition of their vehicle's braking system. The system uses sensors to measure brake fluid pressure and disc temperature. It transmits the sensor data wirelessly via an Arduino microcontroller to a dashboard-mounted touchscreen interface. The interface displays real-time readings of brake pressure, temperature, and alerts the driver of any issues detected, such as fluid leaks. The system was modeled and simulated in Simulink to test how it would function and identify pressure leaks. Its goal is to help prevent accidents caused by undetected brake failures.

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
