This document introduces a crowdsourcing method for collecting farmgate prices in Malawi, using mobile phones and radio broadcasts, which proved effective and inexpensive during 2019 to 2021 harvest seasons. Results show that while soybean farmers saw improvements in 2021, with 78% receiving minimum farmgate prices, only a small percentage of maize farmers received comparable prices. The document emphasizes the need for promoting competition over enforcing penalties to enhance farmers' earnings.
