Utah was once the most conservative and the least diverse state in the U.S. According to USA Today, it is 98% white until the 1970s when the state started to welcome more migrants, mostly Hispanics. The Beehive State’s African-American and Asian populations are growing as well. This rise in the state’s population density is caused by its steady economy.

Utah was once the most conservative and the least diverse state in the U.S. According to USA Today, it is 98% white until the 1970s when the state started to welcome more migrants, mostly Hispanics. The Beehive State’s African-American and Asian populations are growing as well. This rise in the state’s population density is caused by its steady economy. The Economy In 2015, Utah led the nation for job growth. Utah’s economy is booming. In fact, it’s the strongest in the nation today. The 2016 Economic Report to the Governor reported that the state’s economy continues to prosper. The steady growth of jobs and the increasing population are not without negative consequence. Records show that crime rate also increased with the increased in Utah’s population.
- 3. The Crime Rate The 2016 Utah Priorities Project considers crime as the No. 7 problem they have to address. Utah Priorities Project further stated that “In 2014 (the most recent data available) there were 6,346 violent crimes and 84,711 property crimes in Utah.” Although the state’s crime rate is still one of the lowest in the country, the government is already creating ways to lessen crimes. Movoto, a real estate blog, published a ranking of the dangerous places in Utah based on the number of property crimes and violent crimes (rapes, murders, aggravated assaults, and robberies). The list includes Salt Lake City, South Salt Lake, Toole, Ogden, Cedar City, Washington, Brigham City, Sandy, West Jordan, and Payson.
