Paddling is one of my favorite passions, and even though I haven't been doing it for very long, I
really love it. I started doing paddling about three and a half years ago, when I first moved to
Hawaii from Washington state. The only reason that I actually did it was my parents, who were
encouraging me to take part in the sport in order to become closer to Hawaiian culture. I didn't like

influence. An example of this is the volume in which something is communicated. Depending on the
culture the volume can be interpreted differently. In some cultures, such as German, high volume is
a sign of confidence. To many in the German culture this is a sign of a natural leader. However, in
the Asian culture it can be perceived as anger or arrogance. Nonverbal language is also interpreted
differently among different personality types. For extroverts, a high volume means that the
individual is outgoing and personable. For introverts, this volume level can be obnoxious. Volume

The New York Times article for this event is titled "U.S. And Soviet Astronauts Unite Ships And
Then Join In Historic Handshakes". It begins with a statement just as concise as the opening
statements in the other two articles from them that were previously analyzed. The article then gives
details on the "physical" interaction between the astronauts on the two different spacecrafts. The
author justifies the handshake in space by saying "an event that would have been all but unthinkable
a few years ago"(). This amplifies the improved relationship between the United States and the

Some of these videos included videos of the astronauts of both spacecrafts communicating with
each other. The astronauts seemed to have a lot of enjoyment while talking to the camera about what
they do on the spacecraft and what all they brought with them. The broadcast actually has minimal
narration from the CBS News reporter. Astronauts spoke of their previous goals of the trip and the
difficulties they reached. The broadcast ended with them talking about the positive bond created
between America and the Soviet Union in space. They hope the bond will transfer to the ground.
The purpose of this broadcast was to convince the American people that the Soviet Union and the
United States are friends. The news source believed it and after the broadcast many of their viewers
did too.
Evaluation (Which was most trustworthy/why):
The amount of trustworthiness in an article is based on the amount of bias. The New York Times
was the left–leaning source in this evaluation, however they had a small amount of bias. BBC had
the same information as the New York Times, but with no bias at all. CBS News was also not on
balance, but their bias was minimized. They, however, reported a lot of different information than
the other two sources. Although both of these sources had very little bias, BBC was the most

Handshakes and Personality
Abstract Handshakes were rated on nine different aspects by examiners and then participants were
given a personality test based on the Big Five Factor Model. The handshakes were then compared to
the results from the personality tests and scored based on the most dominant features of personality.
Those with firm handshakes and good eye contact were found to be more extroverted and more
agreeable, were as those with weaker handshakes and less eye contact were more introverted and

This study proved that in their demographic, a firm handshake and good eye contact lead to a
greater chance of being hired, based on how the interviewers felt the participants performed
