Cyberbullying
Three hundred "likes" on Instagram. A hundred retweets on Twitter. Ten million views on YouTube.
These are some common social media networks in our society used by all ages and sadly valued
more than they should be. The growth of technology use in young adults, mostly teenagers, has
improved extensively over the past few years resulting in new problems. "Nearly 43% of kids have
been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once" (www.DoSomething.org). Before
internet bullying was to the extent of picking on each other, name calling or fist fights,
Cyberbullying takes bullying to another level. This topic is of huge controversy in schools across
the nation, political debates, the president of the United States has even given speeches on it. Many
people believe cyberbullying has no long term affect on victims yet cyberbullying is number three
on the charts for cause of deaths among teenagers and adolescents (BullyingStatistics.org). Social
Media can give teenagers and young adults confidence that may not always be used in the best way.
They can hide behind a screen and say hurtful things they 'd never have the audacity to say to a
person face to face because they 're scared to. This is a huge problem and needs to be stopped
completely.
Cellphones are a considered a necessity in the modern world, it 's used to make phone calls, send
messages, navigation, to check emails and even to post on social

The Causes And Uses Of Cyberbullying
Cyberbullying has become a large issue in the last few years due to the increase in use and
popularity of electronic devices and social media. Cyberbullying is defined as the use of electronic
devices in which individuals use to send threatening or demeaning messages to another individual.
With electronic devices growing in popularity, cyberbullying is most popular among school–aged
children and young adults in college.
Cyberbullying is not the only form of bullying there are a handful of different ways children and
teens are being bullied. There's your typical face–to–face bullying, such as physical, social, and
verbal, and cyber. Physical bullying would include hitting, punching, kicking, tripping, and property
damage. Social is bullying that is done behind the victims back in order to ruin their social life.
Verbal would include, anything that is hurtful to an individual using words. Such as name–calling,
racist remarks, insults, teasing, and or intimidation. Lastly, as stated above cyber bulling is done
with the use of technology. It can happen at anytime and anywhere such as at home, at school, at the
playground, etc. The uses of hurtful things are said through text message, email, social media, etc.
Cyberbullying can also include humiliating information such as videos and or pictures on a social
media website or text messages.
Cyberbullying has lead to many young children and preteens to commit suicide. Many of these
suicides hit close to home for many

Cause And Effect Of Bullying
The Effects of Bullying
Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other
students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a
familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of
physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as "aggressive
behavior that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain
or discomfort on others" ("Bullying"). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every
day by bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in
any school system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone's imagination. In some
cases, bullying can undermine the self–esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme
measures dangerous to them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing
enduring damage to both victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased
academic achievement, depression and anxiety and high risk of self–destructive behaviors.
According to a study done by Gary Ladd, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, 24
percent of children in the study suffered chronic bullying throughout their school years, which was
related to lower academic performance and less engagement in school. Decreased academic
achievement is a

Vaccines are essential and important to the babies and pre–school or school aged children. Other
than building the body's immune response they have uncountable pros including; protection of
future generations where the vaccinated mothers of the unborn children are alleviated the dangers
from various microorganisms such as viruses that have the great potentiality to cause birth defects as
well as the vaccinated communities helps to reduce or curb diseases for future generations. Such as
the outbreak of the German rubella virus disease that caused the death of about 11,000 babies and
about 20,000 birth defects in babies between the year 1963 to 1965 in USA. Generally, women who
were vaccinated during their early ages of childhood against this rubella virus have tremendously
decreased the chances of passing down this virus to their unborn as well as newborn toddlers. Thus
eliminating the cases of birth defects and other complications associated with this disease (James,
1988).
Additionally, the vaccines have helped to avert the adverse effects and re–emergence of children
Vaccine–preventable diseases such as small pox that have not disappeared completely making the
vaccination a necessity. An outstanding example emanates from the United States where the last
case of small pox was registered in 1948 and 1977 in Somalia which the last case experienced in the

Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment

Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment Bullying is on the rise in the U.S.; therefore, more researchers
are attentive to the effects of bullying. There are extreme cases wherein victims have resorted to
drastic measures. Bullying is a widespread plight, which is having both emotional and tragic effects;
therefore, bullies should be harshly prosecuted and imprisoned. In arguing that bullies need a
harsher punishment, this research paper will closely examine the types of bullying and statistics,
detail two teen suicide cases, and provide the state law.
According to Dan Olweus, research professor of psychology from Norway and creator of the

the law As of 2008, state laws on bullying, harassment, and cyber bullying varies; for instance,
states like Maryland and Virginia delegate responsibility to the State Boards and county Board of
Education.
Maryland's code §7–424.1 requires the State Board to develop a model policy prohibiting bullying,
harassment, or intimidation in schools, and cyber bullying code §7–424 requires local boards of
education to submit an annual report to the Department of Education all the while not specifying
punishment upon said bullying or harassment ("State and Federal Information: Maryland").
Unfortunately, nowhere in the law does it specify consequences for the bullies and their actions.
Virginia's code 8.01–220.1:2 "provides immunity from liability for school employees and volunteers
from civil damages arising from reporting alleged acts of bullying or crimes against others if the
person in good faith promptly reports such acts or crimes to the appropriate school official
incompliance with specified procedures ("State and Federal Information: Virginia"). Like that of
Maryland, Virginia's policy does not specify ramifications for bullying, harassment, or cyber
bullying. In extreme bullying cases wherein victims committed suicide, why not punish bullies with
a mandatory sentence of 5–10 years imprisonment in maximum security? Then for repetitive
bullying cases of living victims, bullies should be sentenced to 2–4 years mandatory sentence in a
minimum

A True Authority Figure
One Tiger Passed On To the people of Boston or who those this concerns: bullying declares the
strength or effect to scare someone, cyberbullying involves tormenting, harassing, or threatening of
a young person using the internet or technology devices. Individuals who become bullied are two to
nine times more likely to consider committing suicide ("Cyber Bullying Facts"). My condolences go
to those impacted by the tragic loss. A situation like this couldn't have ended any worse, however it
should have resolved less painfully by authority figures. Throughout Phoebe Prince's story a true
authority figure appears to be missing entirely. Phoebe Prince, 15 years old, moved from County
Clare in Ireland to South Hadley looking to continue enjoying the teenage life. Only to come to find
out, students in a little town could cause a wake of pain. The bullying became strong and ruthless.
Some peers called her the "Irish slut" on social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). She
constantly struggled with people in school knocking items out her hands, things thrown at her, and
received threatening text messages. In the middle of January, Phoebe hit rock bottom. She became
tormented and terrorized in the school library and hallways. That same day, Phoebe walked home
from school and then suddenly, one of the instigators threw a Red Bull can as she drove by. Phoebe
came home and hung herself in the stairwell defeating her pain. It didn't stop there. Students

Dear Olivia's Letter
Dear Olivia is a detailed reminisce of a girl who was bullied until she became reclusive and wanted
no contact with other people. She was sent many letters as well as e–mails to attempt to cheer her up
and get her back into the outside world. Later, with the help of her mother, she created a book with
said letters as well as her reactions to them. Some of the bullying that was described in the letters
seemed a bit unrealistic at times; the parent letter from Maggie was the most unrealistic considering
the circumstances. If something like throwing food happened often, then the supervisors should
have done something, or it should have been detailed that it is not allowed in the school rules. It
should not have escalated to the bullying stage,

Bullying: A Major Public Health Problem In The Western World
We have all either been bullied, or possibly even bullied another person at some point in our lives.
Unfortunately, bullying is a part of human nature. Sometimes we say things that we do not
necessarily mean, sometimes with the intention to hurt someone, but not always. Maybe you don't
really think the smart girl in your math class is ugly. Perhaps you simply envy her for her great
intelligence. Regardless of your true intentions or how upset you were when you said it, it is too
late. Once you say something, you can never take those words back. There is a common
misconception in today's world that teasing someone is ok and that people, especially kids, will "get
over it." The truth is, they often do not simply forget about it. Those seemingly ... Show more

These studies suggest that bullying behavior may be associated with depression, suicidal thoughts,
and suicide attempts. (Gould, Klomek and Sourander) Though some of the studies may have
conflicting results, they all contribute to the same theory: bullying and suicide have some sort of
relation. In the article "Bullying and Suicide: detection and intervention," the authors include cross–
sectional studies of the differential impact of school bullying by sex regarding the risk of depression
and suicidal ideations. A few of the many examples of said studies would

Cyberbullying: A New Epidemic In Today's Society
Bullying is everywhere and with the recent stories about the most violent cases it is becoming so
public, a new major issue has been found for in our nation. The tolls of years of bullying are
effectively pushing victims into two corners. The victims either seek out help and fight back or fall
in deeper and resort to self harm. Whatever it maybe be, it's everywhere. Bullying has found a new
home on the internet. Cyberbullying is so common in today's society. Teenagers spend most of their
time on social media sites and those sites are perfect for potential cyber bullying. One in ten teens

Her family left South Hadley but that did not stop the events that were about to unfold. Parents were
outraged when the news of Phoebe's death made it's way through the small town. The parents
demanded justice. The school has said that they were not made aware the the issue until a week after
Phoebe's death. The school also had a no tolerance policy on bullying. Yet, nothing was done for
Phoebe. Barbara Coloroso was invited to South Hadley after the death of another student who also
committed suicide. She had suggested some changes to the school's code of conduct. When she
returned she found that no changes had been made. Coloroso believes if that the school had
implemented the changes and if Phoebe's had been handled correctly she would still be alive. Six
students were charged with felonies and the school has undergone changes to prevent this from

Controversy: The Role Of Social Media In Schools
As the 21st century furthers, social media has expanded rapidly; this has become an ongoing issue
because social media is often a tool used to cyberbully. Nowadays, school districts are unaware of
handling these issue since it can, and will, for the most part take place at home. Many individuals
believe that the district cannot be held responsible since these actions are not viewed by school
administration. As academic years further, school districts are forced to update the code of conduct
to provide the rights of students. Although, schools provide this code to ensure the safety of
students, it often gets reversed on the district. It has been proven that many schools are being sued
for not following the correct procedures when dealing with ... Show more content on

As the school years progress, districts must must devise a new code. This is important in the coming
years of technology and social media. Likewise, the safety of students plays a large role in the
production of social media production of district codes. These codes must become strictly enforced,
since earlier cases of bullying and harassment have resulted in lawsuits aimed at school districts for
failure of assisting students. Without codes focused on bullying and harassment, school systems get
caught in a tight spot if the punishment does not fit the crime. For example in Phoebe Prince's case,
Sharon Chanon Velazquez was sentenced to a one day suspension for continually harassing Prince
on her was to Latin class. In the online article Who Failed Phoebe Prince? states that, "Phoebe
reported her to an assistant principal, who sent Phoebe back to class while he handled another
matter" (Giacobbe). Unfortunately, Velasquez was only able to be suspended for one day due to the
school's code of conduct policy. It is cases like this, where districts need to understand that there
will be different circumstances for evolving

Cyberbullying Is A Problem That Affects More Than One...
With the new twitter update which allows that creation of polls that users can vote in, countless
accounts have been created to poke fun at someone 's personality or looks, this is what is called
cyberbullying, and it happens each and everyday. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects more than
one–fourth of adolescents in middle school and high school. With the growth of technology it has
become more imperative to implement programs in schools to help solve this problem. Today,
teenagers rely more on the internet, and other technologies to keep in touch with their friends, and
social lives. They are on all sorts of social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram,
snapchat and so much more. They also use different forms of technology such as cellphones, and
online chatrooms to communicate with friends and social circles. Many adolescents use this
growing technology as a bridge between their everyday reality, and virtual reality, and sometimes,
use this technology to intimidate and harass other students which is a form of cyberbullying. Jemica
Carter and Wilson Feleta, authors of "Cyberbullying a 21st century health care phenomenon," define
cyberbullying as,"covert, psychological bullying [conveyed] through electronic mediums'"

Bullying and Mass School Shootings Essay
Cho poked his head in the room a couple of times and looked around before exiting and entering a
different room. The first shots were heard across the hall, in the hydrology class. It sounded like a
nail gun or hammer hitting concrete blocks. Suddenly one could hear a pin drop. Abruptly the
classroom door burst open and Cho walked in and raised a Glock 9mm handgun. (Friedman) "Once
I got teased, I could see where the anger came from and what can make someone want to kill," said
Stefan Barone, a fourteen year old. (ABC News) The anger and depression is overwhelming and
hard to control. There is no doubt that bullying cause's suicide, and those bullied often commit acts
of violence against others. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, even mental illness, such as PTSD and many others is caused by bullying.
(Schusterbauer) Police, teachers, principals, state senators, and many others claim it's not bullying
that causes these mind numbing numbers of suicides and school shootings. They truly believe it is
mental illness, depression, anger, and PTSD that causes the overwhelming number of suicides and
shootings. What they fail to comprehend is that those are side effects as a result of being bullied.
On the other hand, try to imagine being told by numerous people to "Go kill yourself, the world
would be better off" and "No one likes you" or "We all wish you were dead" or even "Why were
you born?" "You have no right to live." After being subjected to all that, and so much more,
wouldn't that make one want to just give up or get revenge?
We flip–flop between ignoring bullying altogether, considering it "normal" and implementing "zero
tolerance" policies that don't address the relationships among students and between students and
adults. (Friedman) Since bullying isn't taken care of, society ends up with school shootings and
suicides on our hands. After either shootings or suicides the police have to determine the cause of
death, and when bullying is the contributing factor of death, often the media and others argue about
the official cause of death. Hence, there is a debate as to whether bullying or the emotions of
depression and anger are the

Jamey Rodemeyer's Story Analysis
For years, 14–year–old Jamey Rodemeyer had been victimized by bullies. The attacks didn't only
happen in person but also continued online, where bullies used social media to taunt him day and
night. Beset by cyber–bullies, the student from Williamsville, N.Y., took his own life on September
18, 2011.
Yet even Jamey's death didn't stop his tormentors. Just days after the tragedy, his 16–year–old sister
attended a school dance. When dance organizers dedicated a song by Lady Gaga to Jamey, the
bullies chanted "Better off dead!"
"I don't understand how someone could be so cruel," Jamey's mother, Tracy Rodemeyer, said in an
interview with Reuters. "Everybody has a story about bullying, but never, never have I ever seen it

Fifteen year old Phoebe Prince of South Hadley, Mass., was also driven to suicide by bullies who
attacked her both at school and online. After her death, bullies posted nasty comments on her
Facebook memorial page.
Schools have long tried to combat the problem of bullying. When the attacks happen online,
however, they present a different set of challenges. Unlike a verbal assault in the schoolyard,
cyberbullying goes on with no one around to see who's sending the taunting texts and malicious
Facebook postings. Without having to confront their victims face–to–face, anonymous online bullies
often say much meaner things than they'd ever say in person.
"When I was bullied in middle school, I could go home and slam my door and forget about it for a
while," Sameer Hinduja, codirector of the Cyberbullying Research Center, told The Associated
Press (AP). "These kids can be accessed around the clock through technology. There's really no
escape."
Though recent tragedies have led to growing awareness of issues related to cyberbullying, the
problem seems to be getting worse. In 2009, 50 percent of students surveyed said they had been
victims of bullies using electronic media. In a survey released on September 26, conducted by MTV
and the AP, that figure had risen to 56

The Importance Of Bullying In The United States
When minors throughout the United States visualize bullying, they generally envision a
substantially larger child physically picking on a much smaller individual. However, when asked
about what harassment looks like, the majority of adolescents are unsure of what it is. Many times
teenagers get bullying and harassment confused or assume they are the same. Harassment and
bullying are related because they each have to do with someone hurting another person, but
nonetheless, they are utterly different. Bullies put in great thought to who they will bully because
bullying portrays a sense of power and they need someone who will satisfy this need. Harassers do
not choose individuals who are smaller than them, but an equal. Harassers victims are peers ... Show

They interpreted Phoebe taking her life as a joke, and said it was her just trying to bring attention to
herself. Phoebe's bullies mocked her death and some even said they were glad she was gone. South
Hadley High school, the school Phoebe attended, made efforts to Phoebe's case not to mourn her
loss, but to make sure no one followed in her footsteps. After the death of Phoebe Prince, some of
the students spoke out against bullying. In the online excerpt, Who Failed Phoebe Prince?, Becky
Brouillard shared, "a lot of people share stuff anonymously... so you don't even know who's saying
it... they can talk over a keyboard, but they'll never say it to your face" with NBC affiliate Alyssa

expert to help other students realize suicide is not the answer, but this was the second suicide case
that occurred in South hadley due to teenage bullying and the second time Barbara Coloroso had
visited SHHS. The first suicide should have made the school enforce bullying rules that protected
students in person and virtually, but the school did nothing. After Phoebe's death, Coloroso insisted
the school take the case more seriously by making rules and enforcing them to stop this from
occurring again.Throughout

The Dangers of Social Media
Social Media is dangerous. Predators uses websites like social network, sexting, online gaming and
chat rooms to harass and can lead to many dangerous situations. Many students send inappropriate
pictures, videos of themselves to their friends and they send it to other friends. Anonymous people
can see these pictures and send hurtful messages to teenagers. It could harm teenagers because
students in school begins to call names and bully them which increases students to commit suicide.
Suicide is common towards teenagers due to being harassed, humiliated, threatened from ages 10–
18. Teenagers have access to everything on their computer and smartphones at home like Facebook,
myspace, twitter. Teens are often harassed by friends or classmates. Classmates spread rumors to
other to make the victim feel embarrassed and lie. They use the websites talk to with anonymous
people online. These people can lie about their age, where they live and what they look like.
In fact a student who ended their life such an early age named "Phoebe Prince hanged herself, she
was a new student at South Hadley High School in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Phoebe's school
reportedly called her an "Irish slut," a "whore" and a "bitch," viciously harassing her in person and
on Facebook" (Holladay 1). Insulting teens can cause them to have disorders for example depression
or eating disorder makes teens think about committing suicide. Schools have the right to punish a

Pros And Cons Of Uniforms
South Hadley High School was once again compelled to tell two students to turn their shirts inside
out. They have become concerned because of t–shirts showing indecent messages and obscene
language. Every day this issue progresses more and more. This has now gotten so out of hand that
this school must make a rule in the code of conduct preventing message t–shirts. South Hadley has
become troubled with the safety of both students and faculty. If this irresponsible behavior goes on
much longer the school may not be an exceptional learning environment for students. South Hadley
High School is one of the numerous schools forced to correct dress code. Dozens of students neglect
to realize what harm they are causing by their profane images and slogans depicted on their clothes.
Regulating t–shirts is desirable for three reasons. Age plays a large role, students saying hurtful
things, and teaching about language is a school's job. Without a doubt, public schools should
regulate message t–shirts. The main reason that public schools should control message t–shirts is
that age plays a large role. While growing up the mind of a child is still expanding as is their ability
to have rational decisions. For example, in adolescent years adults can expect the teen to do a task
such as babysitting, but would never ask that from a toddler. As young people age, they are allotted
more decisions for themselves. This is why it is very vital for public schools to manage message t–
shirts,

According to Bartollas and Miller (2011), Bullying is durable and an aggressive juvenile induces
fear, distress, anxiety, or harm in a weaker child through physical, verbal, and psychological
intimidations (p.50). Bullying is categorized by one or several individuals assertive on a vulnerable
peer, primarily to declare control or power. Bullying takes a strong emotional affect on its victims
such as depression, low self–esteem, academic failure, and suicidal. The effects appear to be long
lasting. Individuals who were bullied when they were younger, especially during middle school has

Persuasive Essay On Community Service
The options for community service are endless. After narrowing down my options, I applied to
volunteer at the Crystal Lake Public Library this past summer. Having to go in for an interview was
a new experience for me, considering how I have never applied for a job. I believe that the exposure
to the interview process did two things for me: first, it put me out of my comfort zone, and second,
it taught me invaluable lessons about applying for future jobs and programs. This is because I am
the kind of person who can get nervous easily, and I struggle to hide it sometimes. An interview is a
type of situation that I would feel nervous in; however, I was able to overcome my fear and apply to
the library anyways. Therefore, I learned what I should expect to be asked, and I understand how I
should properly respond. Once I was accepted to the library's volunteer network, I was able to
choose which department I would work for in order to serve the community.
By volunteering at the library, I improved the Youth Services department, particularly by
participating in the Adopt–a–Shelf program. One part of my job was to rearrange the books in the
correct order when they got disorganized. This made it easier for parents and children to find the
books, movies, and CDs they were looking for. Another task that I enjoyed was replacing the books
to their proper location from the clean–up cart. It is important for books to be on the shelves where
they belong because otherwise it appears that books are not available. My favorite part of
volunteering for the library, however, was getting to help kids pick out the books they were looking
for. I remember many of the people I helped, but one of my fondest moments occurred on one of my

Bullying in Schools: Can It Be Stopped?
Bullying in Schools: Can It Be Stopped?
Even though schools face cost issues in education of staff and anti–bullying enforcement, bullying is
a serious problem that is not being properly addressed. With the shootings at Columbine High
School in Colorado, where on April 20, 1999 two students started a massacre where 12 students and
one teacher were killed, and suicides in multiple places, it's clear that bullying causes tragedies. All
of the events, in some way, are related to bullying. In recent years, there has been more media
coverage of incidences of bullying and its repercussions. There was a girl in Massachusetts named
Phoebe Prince that after being bullied for months went home after school on January 14, 2010 and

However, neither document provides much information on the disciplinary process. It should be
more specific about the steps and levels of diciplinary actions. This is not acceptable to me as a
parent. For my childs safety at school, I want to know what the school is doing to prevent bullying.
My twelve year old son attends Ashland Middle School and has been a victim of bullying. He has
been dragged across the floor to the point of bleeding from rug burns, had his fingers slammed in a
locker, been slapped in the face, and been verbally bullied. When I approached the staff at the
school, little was done to the bullies in question. One was told to apologize and the two others
served after school or lunch detention. If I, as an adult caused physical injury to another person, I
would go to jail for assualt. The punishment doesn't seem to fit the crime in our schools. The
schools aren't the only ones responsible for the safety and education about bullying to our children.
Parents need to make sure that their children understand that this type of behavior is unacceptable at
school and at home. Unfortunately there are parents who don't exactly know what constitutes
bullying. There was an interview done by CBS Sunday Morning where the reporter Tracy Smith
talks to students, parents and staff at Irving Middle School in Lincoln, Nebraska. The reporter talks

School Campuses And Its Effects On The United States
Violence in schools has spread widely throughout the world, leading to many problems among
families and students. On April 20, 1999, Columbine High School was the most famous and deadly
act of violence in the United States due to a lack of security. The massacre happened where Eric
Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 12 students, one teacher, and injuring 21 other students before
turning the guns on themselves. As a safe environment such as school, it is very important to make
sure students feel comfortable and safe during the semester. The best solution to minimizing the
violation from happening again involves two actions; make all school campuses improved by
increasing the number of security police and increasing the security cameras. One of the things that
campuses need to improve is to increase the number of the security police. Some school campuses
are only hired about one or two security polices which is not very secure for the big building such as
colleges and universities. Since ... " there were thirty one associated violent deaths from July 1st,
2010 through June 30, 2011" (Truman and Jennifer). Based on the statistic, there are schools around
the United States that are lack of security in the buildings and the violence has increased rapidly. As
of one or two security police is not enough to prevent thousands of bodies in the whole campus
building. However, " the university did not evacuate the campus or notify students of that attack
until several hours later"

The Credibility Of Cyberbullying In Public Schools
Schools, given little guidance from the state, have a difficult time understanding what circumstances
of cyberbullying they can or must respond to. Legislation will pass a law that generalizes
cyberbullying as a whole, without any specific management of how or when schools can take action
against such cases. As a result, many states pass laws saying "schools need to deal with this." This
may be the easier choice to make in the short term, but unfortunately, in the long run this choice
does not help provide specific instructions, guidelines for what to base choices off of and does not
provide any additional resources to address these conflicts. Even though some states require schools
to teach students and staff about cyberbullying and how to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Andrew Jackson Essay
Jackson was a protector of democracy for "Equal protection and equal benefits" for all
men. He wanted to be rid of any organization or institution promoting specific privilege to anyone.
Jackson felt that over time, the offices of the federal system had grown mold to a uniform party. He
proceeded to seek diversity amongst officers, and while he removed no more officials than
Jefferson, he succeeded in diversifying the system.
Since he believed that the power belonged to the people, Jackson instituted a new method for
selecting presidential candidates. While previously there was held a Congressional Caucus, Jackson
initiated a national nominating convention in order that the people might elect their candidates.

In the South, many people wanted to allow the Indians that were civilized, like the Cherokee, to
remain on their land. The eventual result was the passage of the Removal Act, which provided the
necessary funds for the relocation of Indians to the West.
The Cherokee then found favor in their appeal to the Supreme Court (Marshall and Jackson were
long time foes), however, Marshall didn't enforce the ruling, and the Cherokee were eventually
dissolved due to Jackson's hatred. Some escaped to North Carolina, others took money to leave, and
the remaining majority of all were forced from their homes [at bayonet point] to make a long
"trek of tears" to their new homes, west of the Mississippi.
The Seminoles, however, were partially stubborn. Some left for relocation, while others joined
escaped slaves to rise against the government. While unsuccessful, we never managed to totally
relocate them.

Biddle applied for renewal of the charter for the bank four years early, and it passed Congress but
was of course vetoed and deemed by Jackson to be "unconstitutional."

The difficulty of creating a new and effective idea is immense in today's society, and establishing a

many cases, but it is not a comprehensive solution when left on its own. There are many factors that
lead to the code to result in being completely defective, and one being that schools lack the
necessary ideas to help accommodate all specific needs and individuals. The code of conduct is a

One important and unforgettable case is that of 15–year–old Phoebe Prince. Phoebe was a vibrant,
intelligent, and popular Irish girl who had come to America to live the great American dream, but all
that took a turn for the worst when she began to endure online bullying and harassment from her ex
boyfriend's new girlfriend, and four other individuals. According to the online article, "Who Failed
Phoebe Prince" by Alyssa Giacobbe, Phoebe was constantly attacked, taunted and bullied by a
group of six students for a long period of time. The individuals accused Phoebe of many different
ordeals including the idea that Phoebe had taken another girl's boyfriend and called her heinous
names. Phoebe resulted in going to school officials, administration, and the school principal hoping
that someone, anyone of those adults would come to her aid, but none did anything to help her. The
constant name calling continued on all social media platforms and Phoebe felt like her world was
tumbling down. On the day of January 14, 2010, Phoebe decided that she would no longer want to
live life with six people constantly taunting so she decided to take her own life once and for all.
Justice for Phoebe's death consisted of all six individuals facing criminal charges in court and
serving sentences, not just legal, but life worthy. Even after Phoebe's death many of the same people
continued to post and comment terrible things about her and this was the time in which many
students from the school began to speak up. All students asserted that the school officials failed to

of neglect that was faced. Inaction was a common plague at this high school because the

Fake Identity, Rumors, And Cyberbullying
Before discussing the problems, arising from the inappropriate use of social media networks, it is
helpful to understand what social media are. Kaplan and Haenlein (2010,p.210) define social media
as 'a group of Internet–based applications that build on the ideological and technological
foundations of Web 2.0(cumulative changes in the way Web pages are made and used)'. Social
networks, based on social media, allow individual (1) public personal information within a bounded
system, (2) find people who share a same connection, (3) view other people's connection (Nicole,
2007). With technology more and more mature, social networks encompass nearly any online
activity. However, broad activities and blurred boundaries trigger inappropriate use, leading to many
problems. This essay will focus on fake identity, rumors, and cyberbullying.
The first problem is about fake identity. Internet identity is a social identity, established by Internet
user. Compared with national identity, Internet identity is more unreliable. A new regulatory filing
displays,'8.7 percent of its 955 million monthly active users worldwide are actually duplicate or
false accounts' (Kelly, 2012). Minority people use fake identities based on professional, security or
creative reasons, such as identity not suitable to be disclosed, famous by another name than the real
one (Eler, 2012). However, more people are using fake identities for deception.
Fake identity creates a new definition of the word "Catfish".

Bullies themselves are also at risk for long–term negative outcomes. Several studies suggest that
bullying in early childhood may be an early sign of the development of violent tendencies,
delinquency, and other criminal behavior.
I believe that while bullying in and of itself is not delinquent behavior, it does have the potential to
lead to delinquent behavior. But there's a flip side of bullying and delinquency, according to the
Pardee RAND Graduate School dissertation "No Bullies Allowed", "Results show that victimization
prior to the age of 12 years is significantly predictive of the development of several delinquent
behaviors, including running away from home, selling drugs, vandalism, theft, other property
crimes, and assault." Ultimately the parent of the bully bears the responsibility for bullying. They
need to address the situation with their child, getting help for the child's aggressive behavior. But
like so much of life, issues must be attacked on all fronts. Schools, police, parents, peers, courts all
have a part to play in solving the problem. The Benjamin Franklin School in Ridgewood, NJ had a

Callum and Sephy represent an ideal relationship in a world full of human variety that's very far
from ideal. We can not be the same in regard to colour of our skin but can tolerate and respect each
other. Blackman gives both Callum and Sephy different voices, which develop throughout the novel.
Sephy sounds quite young at the beginning of the book. She uses a lot of exclamation marks and she
dwells upon the way events make her feel. While Callum comes across as older and more
experienced from the beginning, he shows more awareness of other people's feelings and he tends to
react to problems with bitter humour. Although his voice does matter as the story progresses, it
doesn't change as much as Sephy's. Both Sephy and Callum have a lot in common. They're bright,
confident and strong–willed with strong feelings towards fairness and equality in in that light
towards each other. But they can not deny their different background and upbringing. Sephy grew
up in a privileged and sheltered home and because of this she is naïve to real life troubles, optimistic
and expects life will work out well. Callum has grown up seeing his parents, brother and sister
facing all sorts of problems and life hardship. His experience has taught him that however hard he
tries in life, it will be difficult for him to succeed therefore he's more cautious and pessimistic than
Sephy. The author uses language as a tool to show the

Cyberbullying, An Online Harassment Of Children By Others
Rather be Bullied or Cyberbullied
Abstract:
Cyberbullying is an online harassment of children by others. The works of Patchin, Shariff, and
Willard, all prominent researchers in the study of cyberbullying. They found issues related to
cyberbullying that can be understood. Most cyberbullying instances happen at home and is often
brought to the school campus. School systems are left unsure of how to response to the bullying
while balancing legal and ethnic responsibilities. Students across the nation are being bullied online
and are bringing to school the residual effects of these personal attacks The issues include traditional
bullying, teen social media use and cyberbullying. The issue of cyberbullying cannot truly be
addressed unless it is approached reactively. It has become increasingly evident that the Internet has
brought to our campuses another threat to student safety. It has come to the point where school
districts have zero tolerance policies against bullying to case of cyberbullying. Cyberbullying by
federal and state statue definition includes "bullying or harassment by use of an electronic
communication device."
Why do people cyberbully? Have you ever been bullied and thought people just do it to get

Is Bullying A Hate Crime
Is Bullying a Hate Crime Bullying and hate crimes are extremely similar in nature. The primary
foundation on which both are rooted is targeting those who have obvious differences. Similarly,
another component that establishes bullying as a potential hate crime is that there is an obvious bias
against the victim rooted in prejudice and preconceptions. In essence, perpetrators in both scenarios
seem intent on singling out differences in others and attacking them based on them. Bullying
becomes a hate crime because it can hinder the spirit and can cause immense pain and psychological
harm to the victim of bullying. People who commit hate crimes do so out of a prejudice as does the

Traditional Bullying and Cyberbullying
Generations after generations teens have used the actions of bullying to hurt others they felt as a
threat or to be in the "in crowd" of popularity. Traditional bullying was physical and thus confined
to face–to–face contexts. However, with the development of widespread social interaction via social
media websites, email, and text–messaging, teens have additional avenues of expression and, as a
result, other means of bullying. Over time the bullying taking place using digital means has come to
be known as cyberbullying. Cyberbullying has brought the evilness out of teen's actions, words, and

steps for prevention against cyberbullying.
Parent's Role Common Sense Media conducted a study in 2009 and concluded that nationally
parents tend to underestimate the activity use children have on social networking sites (Holladay,
2011, p. 6–7). Due to this fact, many anti–bullying organizations and foundations have created and
provided information and tips for parents on how to prevent the involvement in cyberbullying. For
example, Stopcyberbullying.org provides scenarios, how to report cyberbullying, tutorials,
definitions, etc. that is easy to understand and will help you create and comfortable atmosphere
when talking with children. Furthermore, parent should simply monitor their children's use of social
media websites and digital technology.
What can the schools do? Schools can respond to cyberbullying in two respective means–
educationally and through legal considerations. From an educational stand point, schools should
have a clear and concise policy on what cyberbully and traditional bullying constitutes and "how

The Effects of Bullying and Need for Harsher Punishments

  • 1. A Brief Note On Cyberbullying And Its Effects On Society Brandon Hughes Professor Moore English 101 9 March 2016 Cyberbullying Three hundred "likes" on Instagram. A hundred retweets on Twitter. Ten million views on YouTube. These are some common social media networks in our society used by all ages and sadly valued more than they should be. The growth of technology use in young adults, mostly teenagers, has improved extensively over the past few years resulting in new problems. "Nearly 43% of kids have been bullied online. 1 in 4 has had it happen more than once" (www.DoSomething.org). Before internet bullying was to the extent of picking on each other, name calling or fist fights, Cyberbullying takes bullying to another level. This topic is of huge controversy in schools across the nation, political debates, the president of the United States has even given speeches on it. Many people believe cyberbullying has no long term affect on victims yet cyberbullying is number three on the charts for cause of deaths among teenagers and adolescents (BullyingStatistics.org). Social Media can give teenagers and young adults confidence that may not always be used in the best way. They can hide behind a screen and say hurtful things they 'd never have the audacity to say to a person face to face because they 're scared to. This is a huge problem and needs to be stopped completely. Cellphones are a considered a necessity in the modern world, it 's used to make phone calls, send messages, navigation, to check emails and even to post on social ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 2. The Causes And Uses Of Cyberbullying Cyberbullying has become a large issue in the last few years due to the increase in use and popularity of electronic devices and social media. Cyberbullying is defined as the use of electronic devices in which individuals use to send threatening or demeaning messages to another individual. With electronic devices growing in popularity, cyberbullying is most popular among school–aged children and young adults in college. Cyberbullying is not the only form of bullying there are a handful of different ways children and teens are being bullied. There's your typical face–to–face bullying, such as physical, social, and verbal, and cyber. Physical bullying would include hitting, punching, kicking, tripping, and property damage. Social is bullying that is done behind the victims back in order to ruin their social life. Verbal would include, anything that is hurtful to an individual using words. Such as name–calling, racist remarks, insults, teasing, and or intimidation. Lastly, as stated above cyber bulling is done with the use of technology. It can happen at anytime and anywhere such as at home, at school, at the playground, etc. The uses of hurtful things are said through text message, email, social media, etc. Cyberbullying can also include humiliating information such as videos and or pictures on a social media website or text messages. Cyberbullying has lead to many young children and preteens to commit suicide. Many of these suicides hit close to home for many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Cause And Effect Of Bullying The Effects of Bullying Nerd, ugly, stupid, creep, loser: these are just a few of the hurtful words that school bullies and other students direct towards their excluded, vulnerable peers in schools around the U.S. Bullying is a familiar word often heard in schools, workplaces and now on the internet. It can occur in the form of physical, mental or emotional abuse. In general, bullying has been perceived as "aggressive behavior that is intentional, harassment, and an imbalance of power with the result of inflicting pain or discomfort on others" ("Bullying"). Thousands of children in the United States are affected every day by bullying. This kind of behavior is detrimental to all involved and should not be allowed in any school system as it can quickly affect an individual beyond anyone's imagination. In some cases, bullying can undermine the self–esteem of the victims which can force them to take extreme measures dangerous to them and others. The experience of school bullying can end up causing enduring damage to both victims and bullies. The effects of school bullying include decreased academic achievement, depression and anxiety and high risk of self–destructive behaviors. According to a study done by Gary Ladd, a psychology professor at Arizona State University, 24 percent of children in the study suffered chronic bullying throughout their school years, which was related to lower academic performance and less engagement in school. Decreased academic achievement is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Immunization And Immunity Responses : Vaccines Essay Immunization and Immunity Responses Name: Institution affiliation: Department: Date: 1. Vaccines are essential and important to the babies and pre–school or school aged children. Other than building the body's immune response they have uncountable pros including; protection of future generations where the vaccinated mothers of the unborn children are alleviated the dangers from various microorganisms such as viruses that have the great potentiality to cause birth defects as well as the vaccinated communities helps to reduce or curb diseases for future generations. Such as the outbreak of the German rubella virus disease that caused the death of about 11,000 babies and about 20,000 birth defects in babies between the year 1963 to 1965 in USA. Generally, women who were vaccinated during their early ages of childhood against this rubella virus have tremendously decreased the chances of passing down this virus to their unborn as well as newborn toddlers. Thus eliminating the cases of birth defects and other complications associated with this disease (James, 1988). Additionally, the vaccines have helped to avert the adverse effects and re–emergence of children Vaccine–preventable diseases such as small pox that have not disappeared completely making the vaccination a necessity. An outstanding example emanates from the United States where the last case of small pox was registered in 1948 and 1977 in Somalia which the last case experienced in the whole ... • 5. Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment Tenesha Bolden March 15, 2012 English 4A Bullies Need a Harsher Punishment Bullying is on the rise in the U.S.; therefore, more researchers are attentive to the effects of bullying. There are extreme cases wherein victims have resorted to drastic measures. Bullying is a widespread plight, which is having both emotional and tragic effects; therefore, bullies should be harshly prosecuted and imprisoned. In arguing that bullies need a harsher punishment, this research paper will closely examine the types of bullying and statistics, detail two teen suicide cases, and provide the state law. According to Dan Olweus, research professor of psychology from Norway and creator of the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, defines bullying ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the law As of 2008, state laws on bullying, harassment, and cyber bullying varies; for instance, states like Maryland and Virginia delegate responsibility to the State Boards and county Board of Education. Maryland's code §7–424.1 requires the State Board to develop a model policy prohibiting bullying, harassment, or intimidation in schools, and cyber bullying code §7–424 requires local boards of education to submit an annual report to the Department of Education all the while not specifying punishment upon said bullying or harassment ("State and Federal Information: Maryland"). Unfortunately, nowhere in the law does it specify consequences for the bullies and their actions. Virginia's code 8.01–220.1:2 "provides immunity from liability for school employees and volunteers from civil damages arising from reporting alleged acts of bullying or crimes against others if the person in good faith promptly reports such acts or crimes to the appropriate school official incompliance with specified procedures ("State and Federal Information: Virginia"). Like that of Maryland, Virginia's policy does not specify ramifications for bullying, harassment, or cyber bullying. In extreme bullying cases wherein victims committed suicide, why not punish bullies with a mandatory sentence of 5–10 years imprisonment in maximum security? Then for repetitive bullying cases of living victims, bullies should be sentenced to 2–4 years mandatory sentence in a minimum ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. A True Authority Figure One Tiger Passed On To the people of Boston or who those this concerns: bullying declares the strength or effect to scare someone, cyberbullying involves tormenting, harassing, or threatening of a young person using the internet or technology devices. Individuals who become bullied are two to nine times more likely to consider committing suicide ("Cyber Bullying Facts"). My condolences go to those impacted by the tragic loss. A situation like this couldn't have ended any worse, however it should have resolved less painfully by authority figures. Throughout Phoebe Prince's story a true authority figure appears to be missing entirely. Phoebe Prince, 15 years old, moved from County Clare in Ireland to South Hadley looking to continue enjoying the teenage life. Only to come to find out, students in a little town could cause a wake of pain. The bullying became strong and ruthless. Some peers called her the "Irish slut" on social network sites (Facebook, Twitter, etc.). She constantly struggled with people in school knocking items out her hands, things thrown at her, and received threatening text messages. In the middle of January, Phoebe hit rock bottom. She became tormented and terrorized in the school library and hallways. That same day, Phoebe walked home from school and then suddenly, one of the instigators threw a Red Bull can as she drove by. Phoebe came home and hung herself in the stairwell defeating her pain. It didn't stop there. Students continued to post harshful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Dear Olivia's Letter Dear Olivia is a detailed reminisce of a girl who was bullied until she became reclusive and wanted no contact with other people. She was sent many letters as well as e–mails to attempt to cheer her up and get her back into the outside world. Later, with the help of her mother, she created a book with said letters as well as her reactions to them. Some of the bullying that was described in the letters seemed a bit unrealistic at times; the parent letter from Maggie was the most unrealistic considering the circumstances. If something like throwing food happened often, then the supervisors should have done something, or it should have been detailed that it is not allowed in the school rules. • 8. Bullying: A Major Public Health Problem In The Western World We have all either been bullied, or possibly even bullied another person at some point in our lives. Unfortunately, bullying is a part of human nature. Sometimes we say things that we do not necessarily mean, sometimes with the intention to hurt someone, but not always. Maybe you don't really think the smart girl in your math class is ugly. Perhaps you simply envy her for her great intelligence. Regardless of your true intentions or how upset you were when you said it, it is too late. Once you say something, you can never take those words back. There is a common misconception in today's world that teasing someone is ok and that people, especially kids, will "get over it." The truth is, they often do not simply forget about it. Those seemingly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These studies suggest that bullying behavior may be associated with depression, suicidal thoughts, and suicide attempts. Cyberbullying: A New Epidemic In Today's Society Bullying is everywhere and with the recent stories about the most violent cases it is becoming so public, a new major issue has been found for in our nation. The tolls of years of bullying are effectively pushing victims into two corners. The victims either seek out help and fight back or fall in deeper and resort to self harm. Yet, nothing was done for Phoebe. Barbara Coloroso was invited to South Hadley after the death of another student who also committed suicide. She had suggested some changes to the school's code of conduct. When she returned she found that no changes had been made. • 10. Controversy: The Role Of Social Media In Schools As the 21st century furthers, social media has expanded rapidly; this has become an ongoing issue because social media is often a tool used to cyberbully. Nowadays, school districts are unaware of handling these issue since it can, and will, for the most part take place at home. Many individuals believe that the district cannot be held responsible since these actions are not viewed by school administration. As academic years further, school districts are forced to update the code of conduct to provide the rights of students. Although, schools provide this code to ensure the safety of students, it often gets reversed on the district. As the school years progress, districts must must devise a new code. This is important in the coming years of technology and social media. Likewise, the safety of students plays a large role in the production of social media production of district codes. These codes must become strictly enforced, since earlier cases of bullying and harassment have resulted in lawsuits aimed at school districts for failure of assisting students. Without codes focused on bullying and harassment, school systems get caught in a tight spot if the punishment does not fit the crime. For example in Phoebe Prince's case, Sharon Chanon Velazquez was sentenced to a one day suspension for continually harassing Prince on her was to Latin class. In the online article Who Failed Phoebe Prince? states that, "Phoebe reported her to an assistant principal, who sent Phoebe back to class while he handled another matter" (Giacobbe). • 11. Cyberbullying Is A Problem That Affects More Than One... With the new twitter update which allows that creation of polls that users can vote in, countless accounts have been created to poke fun at someone 's personality or looks, this is what is called cyberbullying, and it happens each and everyday. Cyberbullying is a problem that affects more than one–fourth of adolescents in middle school and high school. With the growth of technology it has become more imperative to implement programs in schools to help solve this problem. Today, teenagers rely more on the internet, and other technologies to keep in touch with their friends, and social lives. They are on all sorts of social media platforms such as facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat and so much more. They also use different forms of technology such as cellphones, and online chatrooms to communicate with friends and social circles. Many adolescents use this growing technology as a bridge between their everyday reality, and virtual reality, and sometimes, use this technology to intimidate and harass other students which is a form of cyberbullying. Jemica Carter and Wilson Feleta, authors of "Cyberbullying a 21st century health care phenomenon," define cyberbullying as,"covert, psychological bullying [conveyed] through electronic mediums'" (Cyberbullying) Elizabeth Anderson publisher of the article, Teenagers spend 27 hours a week online: how internet use has ballooned in the last decade, demonstrates how there has been a dramatic increase in the use of technology in the last ... Abruptly the classroom door burst open and Cho walked in and raised a Glock 9mm handgun. (Schusterbauer) Police, teachers, principals, state senators, and many others claim it's not bullying that causes these mind numbing numbers of suicides and school shootings. They truly believe it is mental illness, depression, anger, and PTSD that causes the overwhelming number of suicides and shootings. What they fail to comprehend is that those are side effects as a result of being bullied. On the other hand, try to imagine being told by numerous people to "Go kill yourself, the world would be better off" and "No one likes you" or "We all wish you were dead" or even "Why were you born?" "You have no right to live." After being subjected to all that, and so much more, wouldn't that make one want to just give up or get revenge? We flip–flop between ignoring bullying altogether, considering it "normal" and implementing "zero tolerance" policies that don't address the relationships among students and between students and adults. (Friedman) Since bullying isn't taken care of, society ends up with school shootings and suicides on our hands. After either shootings or suicides the police have to determine the cause of death, and when bullying is the contributing factor of death, often the media and others argue about the official cause of death. Beset by cyber–bullies, the student from Williamsville, N.Y., took his own life on September 18, 2011. Yet even Jamey's death didn't stop his tormentors. Just days after the tragedy, his 16–year–old sister attended a school dance. When dance organizers dedicated a song by Lady Gaga to Jamey, the bullies chanted "Better off dead!" Fifteen year old Phoebe Prince of South Hadley, Mass., was also driven to suicide by bullies who attacked her both at school and online. After her death, bullies posted nasty comments on her Facebook memorial page. Schools have long tried to combat the problem of bullying. When the attacks happen online, however, they present a different set of challenges. Unlike a verbal assault in the schoolyard, cyberbullying goes on with no one around to see who's sending the taunting texts and malicious Facebook postings. Without having to confront their victims face–to–face, anonymous online bullies often say much meaner things than they'd ever say in person. "When I was bullied in middle school, I could go home and slam my door and forget about it for a while," Sameer Hinduja, codirector of the Cyberbullying Research Center, told The Associated Press (AP). "These kids can be accessed around the clock through technology. There's really no escape." Though recent tragedies have led to growing awareness of issues related to cyberbullying, the problem seems to be getting worse. The Importance Of Bullying In The United States When minors throughout the United States visualize bullying, they generally envision a substantially larger child physically picking on a much smaller individual. However, when asked about what harassment looks like, the majority of adolescents are unsure of what it is. Many times teenagers get bullying and harassment confused or assume they are the same. Harassment and bullying are related because they each have to do with someone hurting another person, but nonetheless, they are utterly different. Bullies put in great thought to who they will bully because bullying portrays a sense of power and they need someone who will satisfy this need. Harassers do not choose individuals who are smaller than them, but an equal. Harassers victims are peers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has now gotten so out of hand that this school must make a rule in the code of conduct preventing message t–shirts. South Hadley has become troubled with the safety of both students and faculty. South Hadley High School is one of the numerous schools forced to correct dress code. Dozens of students neglect to realize what harm they are causing by their profane images and slogans depicted on their clothes. Regulating t–shirts is desirable for three reasons. Age plays a large role, students saying hurtful things, and teaching about language is a school's job. Without a doubt, public schools should regulate message t–shirts. The main reason that public schools should control message t–shirts is that age plays a large role. While growing up the mind of a child is still expanding as is their ability to have rational decisions. For example, in adolescent years adults can expect the teen to do a task such as babysitting, but would never ask that from a toddler. • 21. Persuasive Essay On Community Service The options for community service are endless. After narrowing down my options, I applied to volunteer at the Crystal Lake Public Library this past summer. Having to go in for an interview was a new experience for me, considering how I have never applied for a job. I believe that the exposure to the interview process did two things for me: first, it put me out of my comfort zone, and second, it taught me invaluable lessons about applying for future jobs and programs. This is because I am the kind of person who can get nervous easily, and I struggle to hide it sometimes. An interview is a type of situation that I would feel nervous in; however, I was able to overcome my fear and apply to the library anyways. Therefore, I learned what I should expect to be asked, and I understand how I should properly respond. Once I was accepted to the library's volunteer network, I was able to choose which department I would work for in order to serve the community. By volunteering at the library, I improved the Youth Services department, particularly by participating in the Adopt–a–Shelf program. One part of my job was to rearrange the books in the correct order when they got disorganized. This made it easier for parents and children to find the books, movies, and CDs they were looking for. Another task that I enjoyed was replacing the books to their proper location from the clean–up cart. It is important for books to be on the shelves where they belong because otherwise it appears that books are not available. My favorite part of volunteering for the library, however, was getting to help kids pick out the books they were looking for. I remember many of the people I helped, but one of my fondest moments occurred on one of my first days. I was working in the junior fiction department, and there was a young girl there. She wanted to find a new series of books to read for the summer reading program. It was special to show her the novels that I read when I was her age, especially when she chose to start the Mother– Daughter Book Club books: my favorite series in middle school. Social networks, based on social media, allow individual (1) public personal information within a bounded system, (2) find people who share a same connection, (3) view other people's connection (Nicole, 2007). With technology more and more mature, social networks encompass nearly any online activity. However, broad activities and blurred boundaries trigger inappropriate use, leading to many problems. Sephy sounds quite young at the beginning of the book. She uses a lot of exclamation marks and she dwells upon the way events make her feel. While Callum comes across as older and more experienced from the beginning, he shows more awareness of other people's feelings and he tends to react to problems with bitter humour. Although his voice does matter as the story progresses, it doesn't change as much as Sephy's. Both Sephy and Callum have a lot in common. They're bright, confident and strong–willed with strong feelings towards fairness and equality in in that light towards each other. But they can not deny their different background and upbringing. Sephy grew up in a privileged and sheltered home and because of this she is naïve to real life troubles, optimistic and expects life will work out well. Callum has grown up seeing his parents, brother and sister facing all sorts of problems and life hardship. His experience has taught him that however hard he tries in life, it will be difficult for him to succeed therefore he's more cautious and pessimistic than Sephy. • 37. Is Bullying A Hate Crime Is Bullying a Hate Crime Bullying and hate crimes are extremely similar in nature. The primary foundation on which both are rooted is targeting those who have obvious differences. Similarly, another component that establishes bullying as a potential hate crime is that there is an obvious bias against the victim rooted in prejudice and preconceptions. In essence, perpetrators in both scenarios seem intent on singling out differences in others and attacking them based on them. Bullying becomes a hate crime because it can hinder the spirit and can cause immense pain and psychological harm to the victim of bullying. • 39. What Are The Ways Of Hemingway The Ways of Hemingway Is Hemingway's troublesome history with women the reason why his women characters do not have a significant role in his short stories? It may seem as so. Throughout his lifetime Hemingway has had numerous wives or girlfriends, most of them containing conflict. Many occurrences like the ones he has had with these women are reflected in his works along with problems with race and coming of age. In "Indian Camp", Nick, his Uncle George and his father travel across a lake to an Indian Camp where there is a lady that has been trying to give birth for two days. In "Indian Camp" the Indian woman is trying to birth her baby and a situation happens with Uncle George "She bit Uncle George on the arm and Uncle George said, 'Damn squaw bitch!' "(93). (Bauer 2). Also in "The Doctor and the Doctor's Wife", the wife is not referred to by name and she is given the role of a subdued wife where she ends every sentence with "dear" when talking to her husband, "'Aren't you going back to work, dear?' Asked the wife from the room where she was lying with the blinds drawn" (101). The women play very minor roles in both stories and they both come off as irritating by the screams and asking constant questions. The males, however, give the women much attitude and talk to them with superiority in their voice, where the women are polite. Nick even choses his father of his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
