Objective: To be effective against the opposition robots whilst also
adhering to requirements set by both the team and the university.
Requirements applicable for weapon:
1.Bar material must be durable to withstand high speed impacts.
2.Weapon to not exceed a length of 150mm.
4.Should weigh less than 1/3 of the total weight of the robot (<1kg).
5.Motor to have a torque of at least 0.5Nm which can also be
achieved through gear reduction.
How each requirement is satisfied:
1.The bar is made from two steel plates welded together, with steel
having a very high young’s modulus as well as welding creating a
very strong connection.
2.The length of the bar is 140mm wide.
4.The total weight of the weapon subsystem (including all parts
and connections) is 0.5kg, a lot less than the maximum weight
allowing for less constriction with other engineer's sections.
5.To produce an RPM of 1700, a torque of 0.55Nm was required to
spin the 0.4kg bar, with the weapon motor being able to produce
torques of 0.66Nm which is more than enough.
How to spin the weapon?:
A V-belt pulley system was chosen that would make used
of a pulley connected to the motor vertically and one connected
to the shaft horizontally. A V-belt would be used to connect
the two pulleys by twisting 90 degrees in the middle.
