Are Your Employees Happy?
If you asked them, what would they say?
Generalities? “ Of Course” “ I love it here” “ I really enjoy my job” “ Great Pay & Benefits” “ Great Work Environment” “ Love My Co-workers” “ So Much Opportunity” Etc.
Well, if everything is going so well, and everyone is so happy, Why aren’t we doing a heck of a lot better?  In other words,  why aren’t my employees more   proactive   and   productive?
If you asked them what they  liked least  about their job,  what do you think  they would say?
A bit more specific? “ Lack of Communication” “ Getting yelled at when problems arise” “ No one’s guiding the company” “ Someone’s always watching you” “ Unequal expectations, rules & rewards” “ Set procedures not always followed” “ No clear job descriptions” “ Lack of management control of people” “ Lack of Appreciation” “ Don’t enjoy my responsibilities”
A bit more specific? “ Lack of organization” “ Our Customers know before us” “ Personality conflicts” “ I’m not told how the business works” “ Lack of teamwork” “ No performance evaluations” “ People blow-up to easily” “ No recognition for doing a good job” “ Not enough work to stay busy” “ No one to go to with questions”
Interestingly, all of those comments focus on   Communications
What about? “ No health benefits” “ Not paid enough” “ Office is too cold” “ No cost of living adjustment” “ Too noisy” “ No holiday or sick pay” “ Smoking in the warehouse” “ No retirement program” “ No place to eat lunch” “ Long hours around holidays”

Communication The Key To Performance

  • 5. Generalities? “ Of Course” “ I love it here” “ I really enjoy my job” “ Great Pay & Benefits” “ Great Work Environment” “ Love My Co-workers” “ So Much Opportunity” Etc.
  • 6. Well, if everything is going so well, and everyone is so happy, Why aren’t we doing a heck of a lot better? In other words, why aren’t my employees more proactive and productive?
  • 7. If you asked them what they liked least about their job, what do you think they would say?
  • 8. A bit more specific? “ Lack of Communication” “ Getting yelled at when problems arise” “ No one’s guiding the company” “ Someone’s always watching you” “ Unequal expectations, rules & rewards” “ Set procedures not always followed” “ No clear job descriptions” “ Lack of management control of people” “ Lack of Appreciation” “ Don’t enjoy my responsibilities”

A bit more specific? “ Lack of organization” “ Our Customers know before us” “ Personality conflicts” “ I’m not told how the business works” “ Lack of teamwork” “ No performance evaluations” “ People blow-up to easily” “ No recognition for doing a good job” “ Not enough work to stay busy” “ No one to go to with questions”
  • 10. Interestingly, all of those comments focus on Communications
  • 11. What about? “ No health benefits” “ Not paid enough” “ Office is too cold” “ No cost of living adjustment” “ Too noisy” “ No holiday or sick pay” “ Smoking in the warehouse” “ No retirement program” “ No place to eat lunch” “ Long hours around holidays”
