This case report describes using a tooth scheduled for extraction as an anchorage aid during orthodontic treatment. Specifically, it details how an mandibular left first bicuspid tooth planned for removal was used to redirect undesirable side effects from uprighting a mesially tipped lower right second molar. By transferring mechanical forces to the tooth marked for extraction, the authors suggest treatment time could be reduced. The results demonstrated this "free anchorage system" successfully uprighted the mandibular molar as intended.
