Advent - Second Week
As we enter the second week of Advent, our thoughts should be turning more
and more to the coming of Christ at Christmas. As we move on to the second
candle on our Advent wreaths, our sense of expectation increases, as does
our recognition of the fact that we are not prepared, not only for the first coming of
Christ that we will celebrate in a few weeks but for His Second Coming at the end of
time. As we light our Advent wreaths and engage in our Advent devotions we refocus
our minds and hearts on the Saviour of the world.
Parish Envelopes
Envelopes are now distributed to all areas in our Parish. If you did not receive

A Thought - Obituary for Common Sense (From the NewYork Times)
Today we mourn the passing ofa beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has
been with us for many years. No one knows for sure howold he was. since his
birth records were long ago lostin bureaucratic red tape. He will be
remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to
come out ofthe rain, Why the early bird gets the worm, Life Isn't always fair,
and maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial
policies such as 'don't spend more that you can earn' and reliable strategies
such as adults not children in charge.
His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing
regulations were set in place. Reports ofa six year old boy charged with
harassment for kissing a classmate; Teenagers suspended from school for
using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly
student. Common sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing
their job that they themselves failed to do in discipline their unruly children. It
declined even further when schools were require to get parental consent to
administer sun lotion or give an aspirin to a student; or put on a plaster.
Common Sense lost the will to live when criminals received better treatment
than their victims, when you couldn't defend yourselffrom a burglar in your
own home and the burglar could sue you for assault. Common sense lost the
will to live when a woman failed to realise that a steaming cup ofcoffee was
hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge
settlement.
Common sense was preceded in death by, his parents, Truth and Trust, his
wife, Discretion,His daughter, Responsibility and by his son Reason. He is
survived by his five Stepbrothers, I knowmy Rights, I want it Now, Someone
else is to Blame,I'm a Victim and Pay me for doing Nothing. Not many
attended his funeral as so fewrealise he is gone.
