8th Annual Literary Cake Decorating Contest

The library held its 8th annual book-themed cake decorating contest for National Library Week. Six cakes were entered representing scenes or characters from books. Over 300 patrons voted on their favorite over three hours. Winners were announced, with 1st place going to a Spongebob-themed cake, 2nd to Green Eggs and Ham, and 3rd to a rainbow-themed cake made by a children's group. It was a successful event and participants were encouraged to take part next year.

Cub Scout Roundup is being held by Pack 249 at Lincoln Community United Methodist Church to recruit new Scouts. The Pack will promote the event through flyers at local schools, presentations, and social media. At the Roundup, current Scouts will do outdoor activities while parents attend an indoor information session. The event will provide recruitment materials and information about joining Cub Scouts.

Library visitors voted on their favorite from 9am to 12pm. Winners were announced at 12:30pm and the cakes were shared. The event was successful and the library hopes for even more cakes next year for the 7th contest. First place went to a To Kill a Mockingbird cake, second to Winnie the Pooh, and third to The Rainbow Fish. An honorable mention went to a Goodnight, Goodnight Construction Site cake.

1st annual literary cake decorating contest event –
The library held its first annual literary cake decorating contest for National Library Week. Five cakes were entered depicting scenes or characters from books. Library visitors voted on their favorite by placing tokens in boxes by each cake. Over 230 people participated in judging. The winning cakes were: first place for a "Fat Cat" cake by an ESL class with 84 votes; second place for an "Oh, the Places You'll Go" cake by an archivist with 55 votes; and third place for a "Blueberries for Sal" cake by an librarian with 50 votes. The cakes were enjoyed by visitors after the winners were announced.

The team formed to organize a recycling awareness project at the Brooks Elementary School. They met with the principal and teachers to discuss holding a week-long paper recycling competition between grades. The team presented to students about recycling and helped them create posters. On the final day, the students paraded their posters and the winning class was announced, receiving a pizza party prize. The project aimed to educate students on recycling and motivate them to participate.

8th Annual Literary Cake Decorating Contest
- 1. • In Honor of National Library Week, we had our eighth annual “Book-themed” cake decorating contest. Entrants had to bake a cake and decorate it to represent a scene or character from a favorite book, be it a beloved children’s book or your favorite adult book. • This year we had six cakes entered into the contest • Anyone that came through the library judged the cakes, by putting a token in the box of the cake they find to be the best. Judging ran from 9:00am-12:00pm. • We had 310 patrons participate in the voting/judging of the cakes. • Winners were announced, and we began cutting into these beautiful creations and shared them with anyone that came into the café. • It was a very successful event, and I think all who participated had a good time. • Please consider participating next year for our 9th Annual Literary Cake Decorating Contest.
