Recent research has used tracking devices to analyze finger movements during Braille reading. Experiments have found that word frequency affects reading smoothness, but letter combination familiarity does not. Additional experiments examined backwards movements while reading and found targets are more accurately reached if they are short words, and meaning of the surrounding sentence does not impact accuracy. Future research could incorporate neuroimaging to better understand how the brain processes information during Braille reading and compare activity between Braille and visual readers.2 b i access
Vision Australia provides services to Australians who are blind or have low vision. Their i-access program aims to improve access to information by creating and acquiring digital audiobooks (DAISY format), storing them in a central repository, and allowing clients to search for, select, and receive titles either online or on compact discs. The service has grown significantly over four years and now includes over 150 newspapers/magazines online, 15,000 audio titles, and the ability to produce braille. Clients benefit from timely access to relevant information, increased choice, and a reading experience similar to sighted users. Ongoing development includes expanding the online collection and automated conversion capabilities.

Recent research has used tracking devices to analyze finger movements during Braille reading. Experiments have found that word frequency affects reading smoothness, but letter combination familiarity does not. Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
