Stingray injuries reported to Texas poison centers from 1998 to 2004 were examined. A total of 153 cases were identified, with reported injuries increasing over the 7-year period. Most injuries occurred during summer months, especially August. The majority of cases involved people ages 6-19 and occurred in public coastal areas. Over half of injured individuals did not seek treatment at a health care facility. The clinical effects were typically minor in over 50% of cases.

The results showed that 36% reported decreased condom use at 6 months, but this was not associated with gender, race, ethnicity, or PrEP use. Patients with an HIV positive partner were less likely to decrease condom use, as were those with the same or fewer number of sexual partners over time. Of the 530 sexual partners tested who were contacts of people newly diagnosed with HIV, 74.7% (396 people) were previously aware of their positive HIV status, while 25.3% (134 people) were newly diagnosed. Although contact investigations are still effective, the majority of contacts for people newly diagnosed were already aware of their HIV positive status. Increasing HIV testing and early diagnosis can help lower transmission rates by decreasing the number of unaware infections.

This study examined the prevalence and risk factors of wound infections at a tertiary hospital in Northern Ghana. bstract Purpose: To examine the effectiveness of virginity pledges in reducing STD infection rates among
young adults (ages 18–24).
Methods: Data are drawn from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, a nationally
representative study of students enrolled in grades 7–12 in 1995. During a follow-up survey in
2001–2002, respondents provided urine samples, which were tested for Human Papilloma Virus,
Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Trichomoniasis. We report descriptive results for the relationship of
pledge status and sexually transmitted disease (STD) rates as well as health behaviors commonly
associated with STD infection.
Results: Pledgers are consistently less likely to be exposed to risk factors across a wide range of
indicators, but their STD infection rate does not differ from nonpledgers. Possible explanations are
that pledgers are less likely than others to use condoms at sexual debut and to be tested and
diagnosed with STDs.
Conclusions: Adopting virginity pledges as intervention may not be the optimal approach to
preventing STD acquisition among young adults. © 2005 Society for Adolescent Medicine. All

Understanding the determinants of sexually transmitted
isease (STD) acquisition among adolescents and young
dults is critical to assess interventions designed to limit the
pread of STDs [1–3]. One set of interventions—adopted by
umerous organizations and directly supported by federal
olicy—are programs that encourage abstinence by encour-
ging adolescents to make pledges to remain virgins until
arriage. This article considers the relationship between
dolescent virginity pledges and the sexual behavior of
oung adults, focusing on STD acquisition.
In 1993, “True Love Waits” initiated a movement to
ncourage adolescents to pledge to abstain from sex until
arriage. By 1995, an estimated 2.2 million adolescents

Sporotrichosis in sub himalayan india
This study summarizes epidemiological, clinical, and microbiological data from 100 culture-positive cases of sporotrichosis in Sub-Himalayan India over 18 years. The majority (71%) presented with lymphocutaneous lesions, while 28% had fixed localized lesions and 1% had disseminated sporotrichosis. Hands were the most common site of lesions (32%). The male to female ratio was 1:1.27, and most patients were between 31-60 years old. Seasonal trends showed most cases presented in March-April. This is the largest study to date of culture-proven sporotrichosis cases in the most endemic region of Sub-Himalayan India.

The Michigan Disease Surveillance System for histoplasmosis reporting was evaluated according to CDC guidelines. Several key findings were:
1) The system was found to be stable, flexible, and relatively simple to use, though the sensitivity was low at 27.09% and misclassification of cases was high.
2) Reporting timeliness improved after a 2007 case definition implementation, with investigation completion times decreasing from 48 to 31 days on average.
3) The system was fairly representative though underrepresented African Americans; recommendations were made to improve case classification and data quality.

This was a prospective cross sectional hospital based study included 117 patients with a definitive history of snake bite and clinical features consistent with the pres¬ence of fang marks at the emergency department, Gadarif Hospital, Eastern Sudan from 1st January 2015 to 1st January 2016 to identify the epidemiological factors of snake bite. The majority of these 117 patients were adult (86.3%) and male gender constituted 85.4%. Most of the patients were of rural residence (65.8%) and were involved in farming related activities (68.3%). A relatively high proportion of snake bite episodes happened in the afternoon times (53.9%) and half of the cases were reported during August (18%) and November. (12.8%). Lower limbs were involved in maximum number of the cases (83.7%). The reported systemic reaction included: swelling (100%), sweating (100%), hypotension (54.7%), nausea (51.%), vomiting (47.8%), local bleeding (13.6%), hymoptysis (1.7%) and neurotoxic symptoms (0.8%). In this study, there were ten (8.5%) deaths; 7 had grade 3 and the other three patients had grade 4 envenomation. In conclusion Snake bites is a real medical threat in Eastern Sudan; thus, it is very important to educate the native people to increase awareness about the risk of snake bites in particular among male, farmers and during the period from August to November.Imjh april-2015-6
A Point Cross-sectional study of Swine Flu Cases admitted at a Tertiary Level Hospital, Jaipur (Rajasthan) India-Presently in India Swine Flu cases were reported maximum from Rajasthan in this year (2015). So this study was aimed to analyzed the swine flu cases on various grounds to know the reasons for this increase. 77 swine flu cases addimited on 10.3.15 in a tertiary level hospital were interrogated. Total 2603 swine flu cases and 101 deaths were confirmed upto 10.3.15 in this current year concluding CFR 3.88%. Mean age of identified 77 swine flu cases was 41.32 ± 16.19 years with age range 1.5 to 75 years and MF ratio 0.51. Significantly more females were affected with swine flu than males but no significant age wise difference was found in males and females. Out of total 77 cases, 32.47 % were in ICU. About one third (31%) were self motivated others were from government and private health institutes. They were correctly diagnosed symptomatically in 33.77% before referred and about half of cases were advised for investigation (44.16%) for swine flu and precautions (51.95%) regarding respiratory antiquates. And 63.64% were admitted within 24 hours shows good awareness. Co morbidity was found in 57.14% of admitted cases and maximum (84%) co morbidity was found in cases admitted in ICU.

It will provide information from project four which was about social behavior theories and its roots and unit six that concerned about Influenza vaccination in senior citizens 65 and over. It will also give some information from project two which was about the role of assessment in public health. Information about child obesity as a health problem in my community will be provided, and a detailed description of how data will be provided for this health problem assessment. A completed health assessment information using a U.S Census on my community and the evaluation of this information, and the information about who may be affected by this child obesity health evaluation and a plan of action, conclusion and a reference page where information was gathered.

Influenza is a deadly virus that attacks the nose, throat and lungs and it can be spread from one person to another if a sick person sneezes or coughs without covering their mouth and the other person inhales it. In United States alone, Influenza is estimated to be responsible for 36,000 deaths, and 110,000 to 200,000 hospitalizations ("Influenza vaccination," 2003). It is a virus that is prevented mainly through immunization. The world at large and the U.S government in particular, has tried their level best to conduct public health campaigns that encourage influenza vaccination but despite all the effort, a number of people do not turn up due to varied reasons. In such helpless situations an assessment can be carried out to help health care advocates find out factors affecting vaccine commitment. This document summarizes a study of 84 envenomings in humans caused by freshwater stingrays in Brazil. It finds that intense pain was the most common symptom, and skin necrosis occurred in many victims, primarily fishermen and swimmers. Initial treatments like hot water provided pain relief but did not prevent necrosis. Analysis of stingray venom found various enzymes that could contribute to the clinical effects, including gelatinases and caseinases over 80-100kDa and hyaluronidase around 84kDa. The presence of these enzymes may partially explain the local effects seen in stingray envenomings.

Stingray envenomation is common along coastal regions. The study retrospectively reviewed 119 cases of stingray envenomation presenting to an emergency department over 8 years. Hot water immersion provided effective pain relief in 88% of acute cases within 30 minutes without other analgesics. Prophylactic antibiotics were recommended due to high risk of bacterial infection in puncture wounds. Radiography failed to detect stingray barbs in wounds.

Cell Therapy Expansion and Challenges in Autoimmune Disease
There is increasing confidence that cell therapies will soon play a role in the treatment of autoimmune disorders, but the extent of this impact remains to be seen. Early readouts on autologous CAR-Ts in lupus are encouraging, but manufacturing and cost limitations are likely to restrict access to highly refractory patients. Allogeneic CAR-Ts have the potential to broaden access to earlier lines of treatment due to their inherent cost benefits, however they will need to demonstrate comparable or improved efficacy to established modalities.
In addition to infrastructure and capacity constraints, CAR-Ts face a very different risk-benefit dynamic in autoimmune compared to oncology, highlighting the need for tolerable therapies with low adverse event risk. CAR-NK and Treg-based therapies are also being developed in certain autoimmune disorders and may demonstrate favorable safety profiles. Several novel non-cell therapies such as bispecific antibodies, nanobodies, and RNAi drugs, may also offer future alternative competitive solutions with variable value propositions.
Widespread adoption of cell therapies will not only require strong efficacy and safety data, but also adapted pricing and access strategies. At oncology-based price points, CAR-Ts are unlikely to achieve broad market access in autoimmune disorders, with eligible patient populations that are potentially orders of magnitude greater than the number of currently addressable cancer patients. Developers have made strides towards reducing cell therapy COGS while improving manufacturing efficiency, but payors will inevitably restrict access until more sustainable pricing is achieved.
Despite these headwinds, industry leaders and investors remain confident that cell therapies are poised to address significant unmet need in patients suffering from autoimmune disorders. However, the extent of this impact on the treatment landscape remains to be seen, as the industry rapidly approaches an inflection point.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

Forrester Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit, Texas Department of State Health Services, 1100 W 49th Street, Austin, TX 78756, USAmathias.forrester@dshs.state.tx.us Abstract This study examined the relationship between selected factors and all human exposures involving stingray injuries reported to Texas poison centers. Cases were obtained retrospectively from calls to poison centers in Texas and included all reported human exposures involving stingray injuries from 1998 to 2004. The distribution of cases was determined for a variety of demographic and clinical parameters. A total of 153 cases were identified. The reported stingray injury penetrance increased during the 7-year period. Of the cases with a known patient age, 2% were < 6 years, 25% were 6-19 years. The stingray injuries occurred in public areas in 54% of the cases. In 61% of cases, the management site was reported not to be a health care facility. Of the cases with a known clinical outcome, none involved no effects and 53% involved minor effects. The highest proportion of stingray injuries occurred during the summer months, particularly August. In 60% of the cases, the calls originated from counties along the coast.
