This document is a patent application for an improved writing pad or tablet. It describes a writing pad that has a semi-transparent sheet above a dark adhesive layer, covered by a transparent protective sheet. Notes can be written on the protective sheet and will be visible through the semi-transparent sheet pressed into the adhesive layer. The writing can be erased through a sliding movement in the containing frame. The improvement involves binding the protective sheet and associated elements into a unitary structure that slides within a U-shaped frame element. The writing is erased by a narrow metal strip that separates the semi-transparent sheet from the adhesive layer.

Improvements in Writing Pads or Tablets, We, LESWICK LIMITED, of The
Burroughs' House, The Burroughs, Hendon, London, N.W.4, a British
Company, do hereby declare the invention, for which we pray that a
patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is to be
performed, to be particularly described in and by the following
statement: -
This invention relates to writing pads or tablets of the type in which
a semi-transparent sheet of paper is arranged above a plate covered
with a dark coloured adhesive layer such as paraffin wax or the like,
said semi-transparent sheet being covered by a protective sheet such
as transparent celluloid, on which notes may be written by means of an
instrument having a blunt or rounded end, which latter presses the
semi-transparent sheet into contact with the adhesive layer and
becomes visible through the transparent protective sheet, the means
for obliterating the writing being effected by a sliding movement of
the tablet in the containing frame.
The object of this invention is to mount the transparent protective
sheet and its associated elements, herein referred to as the sliding
element, in a frame element of simple form and economical to
manufacture, and to this end the protective sheet and its associated
elements comprising a sheet of stiff material covered with an adhesive
layer, and a semitransparent sheet, are firmly bound together at the

2. two ends into a unitary structure slidably arranged in a frame element
of U-shape in formation, the means for obliterating the writing
comprising a narrow strip of metal secured at each end adjacent the
free ends of the frame element.
In the accompanying drawing which illustrates this invention: Figure 1
is a perspective view, and [Price 3s. 6d.] Figure 2 is a transverse
section on the line II-II of Figure 1.
According to this invention the form of the sliding element is,
broadly stated, of known form and comprises a sheet of metal or any
stiff flat material 1, a covering of wax or the like 2 firmly applied
to one face thereof, a sheet of semi-transparent material 3 placed
over the wax surface and a protective sheet 4 superimposed thereon. A
frame 5 of any suitable nature may, if desired, be placed between the
sheets 3 and 4 to limit the writing area, the whole being firmly bound
together at the two ends by the ends of the plate 1 being turned over
as at 6. The frame element 7 is of U-shape in formation, the cross
section being also of U-shape to form a channel in which the sliding
element may move freely.
The separation of the semi-transparent sheet from the adhesive layer
is effected by a narrow striD of metal or other suitable material 8
passed between the sheets 3 and 4 and secured at each end adjacent the
free ends of the legs of the frame element as at 9.
