We, EESILADE ASPHALT MANUFACTURING
COMPANY LIMITED,- of la Grosvenor Gardens, London, S.W.1, and HOLLAND
& HANNEN AND CUBITTS LIMITED, of 1 Queen Anne's Gate, London, S.W.1,
both British Companies, do hereby declare the invention, for which we
pray that a patent may be granted to us, and the method by which it is
to be performed, to be particularly des-
cribed in and by the following statement:-
This invention relates to improvements in or modifications of that
according to our Patent No. 713,193 and consists in the substitution
for the foamed slag as aggregate or predominant constituent thereof in
the non-coherent asphaltic material, the asphalt formed by fluxing
such material or the asphaltic layer or carpet formed from such
asphalt, all as otherwise set forth in the Specification of that
patent, of granulated blast furnace slag, furnace clinkers, sintered
fly ash, expanded slates, shales or clays, natural pumice, exfoliated
mica, and featherweight foamed slag (as made by the method according
to Patent No. 711,503) individually or any two or more together.
Foamed slag can be included optionally in the materials now proposed,
but only as a minor constituent.
No alteration of the relative proportions, sizes or procedure as set
forth in said prior Specification is required because of this
substitution, excepting in the case of the exfoliated mica and
2. featherweight foamed slag, which when finely graded are found to- need
from 20 to 28%0, of high viscosity bitumen or tar binder to give an
adequate coating.
What we clatim is:1. Asphaltic material consisting of aranu[Price 3s.

expanded slates, shales or clays, natural pumice, exfoliated mica and
featherweight foamed slag, individually or any two or more together,
as the aggregate or predominant constituent thereof, coated with
bitumen or tar binder so that the material is non-coherent but adapted
to be converted into finished asphalt by fluxing to render said
coating adhesive.
2. Asphalt formed by fluxing the noncoherent asphaltic material
according to Claim 1.
