2. 1. RARA LAKE
The Rara Lake is the biggest and deepest fresh water lake in the Nepal Himalayas. It is
the main feature of the Rara National Park, located in the Jumla and Mugu Districts.[ In
September 2007, the lake has been declared a Ramsar site covering 1,583 ha
(6.11 sq mi) including the surrounding wetland.
3. 2.FEWA LAKE
Phewa Lake, Phewa Tal or Fewa Lake is a freshwater lake in Nepal located in the south
of the Pokhara Valley that includes Pokhara city; parts of Sarangkot and Kaskikot. It is
the second largest lake in Nepal, the largest in Gandaki Zone followed by Begnas
Lake.Phewa lake is located at an altitude of 742 m (2,434 ft) it covers an area of about
5.23 km2 (2.0 sq mi) with an average depth of about 8.6 m (28 ft) with maximum water
depth is 24 m (79 ft).[The Taal Barahi Temple is situated on an island in the lake.
4. 3.BEGNAS LAKE
Begnas Lake is a freshwater lake in Lekhnath municipality of Kaski district of Nepal
located in the south-east of the Pokhara Valley. The lake is the second largest,
after Phewa with an area of 49km square,among the eight lakes in Pokhara
Valley.Water level in the lake fluctuates seasonally due to rain, and utilization for
irrigation. The water level is regulated through a dam constructed in 1988 on the
western outlet stream, Khudi Khola.
5. 4.GOSAIKUNDA LAKE
Gosaikunda, also spelled Gosainkunda and Gosain Kunda is an alpine
freshwater oligotrophic lake in Nepal's Langtang National Park, located at an altitude
of 4,380 m (14,370 ft) in the Rasuwa Distrit with a surface of 13.8 ha (34
acres).[ Together with associated lakes, the Gosaikunda Lake complex is 1,030 ha
(4.0 sq mi) in size and has been designated a Ramsar site in September 2007.
6. 5.PHOKSUNDO LAKE
Phoksundo Lake, also known as Shey Phoksundo Lake, is an alpine fresh
water oligotrophic lake in Nepal's Shey Phoksundo National Park, located at an
elevation of 3,611.5 m (11,849 ft) above sea level in the Dolpa District. Phoksundo
Lake is 494 ha (1.91 sq mi) in size with a water volume of
409,000,000 m3 (1.44×1010 cu ft) and a discharge of 3.715 m3/s (131.2 cu ft/s). In 2004,
a survey by the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology measured the maximum
depth of the lake at 145 m (476 ft).[
7. 6.Imja Tsho
Imja Tsho has been identified as one of the potentially dangerous lakes in Himalaya. It
is located at an altitude of 5010 m in Everest region of Nepal. The lake itself is located
at the toe of its mother glaciers (snout of Imja and Lhotse Shar Glaciers). The Lhotse
Shar Glacier flows in a south-westerly direction. The Imja Glacier on the other hand is
oriented in a north-westerly direction and has its terminus at about 5100 m. These
two glaciers coalesce approximately 3.5 km above the terminus and flow westwards
just beneath the trekking path of Imja Tse.
8. 7.TILICHO LAKE
Tilicho lake is one of the highest lakes in the world.It is 4,919 m high in the Annapurna
range. Tilicho Lake is the destination of one of the most popular side hikes of
the Annapurna Circuit trek. The hike takes additional 3-4 days. No camping is required,
as new lodges have been built between Manang and the lake. Final
