The 648 is a bidirectional optical repeater that extends FireWire cable runs up to 500m by converting electrical FireWire signals to optical signals and back. It has two 9-pin FireWire ports and two LC fiber optic ports, supports transfer rates up to 800Mbps, and can extend the FireWire cable range from 4.5m to 500m when used in pairs. It is compliant with FireWire and IEEE 1394 standards and can be rack mounted with an optional adapter.
