Six sigma certification is one of the important

3. HISTORY
 In early 1920 Walter A.Shewart relates sigma variation to
industrial processes. It showed that 3 sigma variations from the
mean is where a process requires correction. In 1975 Dr.Mikel
Harry an engineer at Motorola began to experiment problem
solving through statistical analysis and starts development of six
sigma methodology.in 1985 Bill Smith created the term Six sigma
and later the following year Dr.Mikel Harry published the first
formal description of six sigma. In 1987 Motorola founded the
six-sigma improvement program and just a year later the
company received the first Malcolm Baldrige quality award.

4. HISTORY
 All this promoted IBM to adopt six sigma creating DMAIC cycle indicating
define, measure, analyse, improve, and control. Motorola corporation won it
first time out in 1988. The idea hitched product design to process quality as
means of continuous quality improvement. Motorola also began to utilize Cp
and Cpk at the high levels. IBM improved the MAIC cycle and added the
define dimension to it. Extensive adoption of six sigma in Motorola resulted in
xerox, GE and Kodak following suit.
 In 1990 Harry Mikel with ex Motorola colleague founded the six-sigma
academy. Academy’s aim was to train employees in six sigma tools such as
lean six sigma. Mikel first client is allied signals Lawrence bossidy.The
academy’s other notable clients includes Dupont and Merrill lynch. In 1987
Mikel borrowed inspiration from eastern martial arts and applied the belt
argot.
