Walt Whitman was born in 1819 in New York. He had seven siblings and moved to Brooklyn as a young child. Whitman had little formal education but worked as a journalist before beginning to write poetry. He published several editions of his famous book "Leaves of Grass" throughout his life, using unconventional styles and themes of death. Whitman struggled financially and resided in New Jersey as an adult.

2.  Walt Whitman was born on May 31, 1819
 Lived in West Hills in Long Island ,New York.
 He had seven brothers and sisters.
 Second oldest child.
 Moved to Brooklyn, New York when he was
not quite four years old.

3.  Walt used verses from the bible to use in his
poems .
 He used unusual images and symbols in his
poetry.
 He also liked to write about death .

4.  Walt began to write and edit various articles
for newspapers that’s what made him want to
write poems.

5.  When his father died he started writing his
poems.
 Over the years Whitman published more
editions of Leaves of Grass.
 Walt had some financial difficulties for his
entire life.
 After working as an office clerk.

6.  Walt attended public schools for six years, the
only education he got.
 Whitman grew up in Camden, New Jersey.
 His father, Walter Whitman, was a carpenter
and a house builder.
 His mother was Louisa Van Velsor Whitman.

7.  The book “LEAVES OF GRASS” is one of his
famous poems ever written …
