2. What is theme? A subject or topic of discourse. A specific and distinctive quality, characteristic, or concern. The message or moral of a story. The lesson of the story. What we should learn from the story. A story can have multiple themes.

3. Examples of Themes “The Lion King”- Circle of life. We get what we deserve is the moral of the story.

4. How do we find a theme? Ask yourself, “Why would the author write this work?” Make notes of events or characters that stand out and seem unusual, awkward, weird. Look for patterns or reoccurring symbols. Follow the protagonist/antagonist and what he/she learns. What mistakes does he/she make?
