This document analyzes hotel performance data over the 2016 Easter holiday weekend. It reports that among major global markets, Kyoto, Japan and Macau, China had the highest Easter eve occupancy rates at 98.4% and 98.1% respectively. In the US, New York City and the Florida Keys had the highest Easter eve occupancy rates at 92.2% and 91.5%. Additionally, Easter eve average daily rates in the US have exceeded $100 for the past five years, with only 2008 previously reaching over $100. Globally, hotel occupancy and rates are typically higher on the Saturday before Easter than on Easter Sunday itself.

Among major global metro markets, 2016
Easter eve occupancy was highest in
Kyoto, Japan (98.4%); Macau, China
(98.1%); Adelaide, Australia (98.0%);
Canberra, Australia (97.6%); and
Prague, Czech Republic (97.4%).
Among U.S. metro markets, 2016 Easter eve
occupancy was highest in New York
City (92.2%), the Florida Keys (91.5%),
Orlando (87.8%), Fort Lauderdale (87.1%)
and Miami/Hialeah (87.1%).
Easter eve ADR in the U.S. has eclipsed
$100 for five straight years. The only
other year on record with U.S. Easter eve
ADR of $100 or higher is 2008 ($105.51).
STR data for U.S. and global markets show
that hotel occupancy and average daily
rates are routinely higher the Saturday
night before Easter than on Easter
Sunday. In 2016, Easter eve global
occupancy was 67.1% and ADR was
$122.88. The night of Easter, occupancy
was 50.3%, while ADR was $117.66.
In the U.S., Easter eve occupancy has
eclipsed 60% for four straight
years. Every Easter Sunday since 2013
has seen occupancy above 40%.
