5S is a methodology for organizing and standardizing a workplace. It involves aligning all elements in relation to each other to provide an aesthetic and orderly appearance. Examples of alignment include sign boards and pictures on walls being aligned at the top, work benches and furniture aligned with each other, and chairs in a conference room aligned in an orderly fashion. Proper alignment creates a presentable and standardized workplace environment.

Aesthetics at Workplace?
‘Alignment’ is the adjustment of an
object in relation with other objects. By
alignment, we mean the way every
element at workplace is positioned in
comparison to the other element. The
aligned objects always provide an
aesthetic and neat look.
A few examples of how the things can be
aligned at a workplace are:
i) Alignment of sign boards & pictures on
walls, they should be aligned at the top,
ii) Alignment of work benches, office
desks, and office furniture, with each
other,
iii) Alignment of chairs in a conference
room,
iv) Alignment of storage bins with the
assembly line,
v) Alignment of stacked materials with
each other as well as with the adjoining
walls, etc.
