2. Introduction
 5S also known as “Workplace Organization” is all about keeping the
workplace neat, uncluttered, organized and safe. So if more people
practiced it at home, maybe we’d be more successful at doing it at work?
 Seiri -“Sort Out and dispose – Eliminate unnecessary things. Keep only
what is needed. Undertake major cleaning. Save money on buying
unnecessary additional storage and equipment.
 Seito-”Set in Order-place for everything and everything in place – Establish
a neat layout to fix storage places and the methods and stick to the rules.
Eliminate search time and therefore, stresses and strains. Save money by
not purchasing the items now easily available at home.
 Seiso -”Shine-scrub dusting and cleaning – Understanding that cleanliness
is a form of inspection. Establish a state of cleanliness commensurate with
your needs. Involve every individual. Achieve zero grime and zero dirt. Give
a definite time of day for cleaning.

3. Introduction..
 Seiketsu-Standardize the method of 5s and
environment upkeep – Establish standards for
maintaining. Add color and use innovative visible
management so that abnormalities show up for
early action. Also make sure that you contribute to
environment upkeep.
 Shitsuke-Sustain –self description and training –
Feeling accountable and setting examples to
maintain the established procedures of
orderliness and neatness. Full participation in
develop and practicing good habits.”
 As in the workplace, the last “S” is usually the
hardest to accomplish. The more kids and pets
you have, the harder it is!

Home
 Do you find things in 15-20 secs
 Medicine like pain killers etc.
 Postage materials like envelop, glue, pen, pencil etc
 Bank docu like pass book , cheque book, debit card ,
credit card etc
 Income tax related docu
 Electricity, telephone and other bills
 Telephone no and addresses of relatives
 Writing pad, pen and pencils
 Lock and keys
 Desired pair of shoes
 Children school bags/books/toys,

5. Indicator of non compliance of
5S
 Did any thing like this happened in 6 months to a
year
 Room/bathroom flooded due to open tap
 Burning of cloth /table due to switched press
 Shooting of electricity bill due to over usage/non
switching
 Breaking of sauce bottle/pickle bottle etc due to non
secure placing
 Computer/priter etc stopped working due to dust
accumulation
 Found cockroaches /spiders many times
 Slippage in bathroom due to non drying

6. Benefits of 5S
 Home looks clean, tidy and beautiful
 Fills great to live in such house
 Impresses everyone
 No time wastage in searching
 No clutter around
 Home is safer place now
