Major aspects of industrialization between 1865 and 1920
Civil War created both positive and negative impact to
industrialization in the United States of American.
Industrialization significantly improved life to American
people. Nonetheless, it also created some problems in the
American society. The three major aspects of industrialization
during 1865 and 1920 that influence political, social and
economy of United States are: technology, entrepreneurship and
transport and communication network (Brezina, C.2005).All
these major aspects were affected positively and negatively.
For example, more of the entrepreneurs were characterized
by first economic growth of the country as during this period,
real per capita product of United States was more than the
double growth domestic product. Transport and communication
sector played a huge part in the success of expanding the
country. These included more advanced railroad systems though
the movement of people was relatively slow and costly. Both
transport and communication and entrepreneurship created to
advance technology in the country such development of new
transit system. Some of the problems encountered were the
elimination of industry and big business from competition
which hurt consumer and workers.Specific groups that were
affected by industrialization
Industrialization affected specific groups by races,
ethnicity, gender, government and child labor between 1865 and
1920. These groups included; land and factory owners, children,
minority industry workers, meager rural dwellers and US
3. government. Land and factory owners were affected in several
ways; their industries especially steel and iron pioneer
collapsed, and they also lost accumulated wealth from the
economic boom.
Many new industries employed young children who were
exposed to child labor and also affect their future life. Minority
groups such as black, Italians, Irish, Chinese and Germany
among others were affected during industrialization. For
example, blacks were ethnically prejudged as inferior and
subjected to low paying wage with harsh working conditions;
Italian immigrant were allowed only to perform unskilled labor
and also both Italian, and Irish become scapegoats for financial
difficulties just because they were foreigners. Meager rural
dwellers were forced to move to towns in search of jobs and
improve their living standards; their land was also alienated,
and they depended on periodic employment in cities. The
government was also affected as there was an implementation of
change in the legislature, governing structure and processes
(Hillstrom, K. & Hillstrom, L. C. 2007).Effect of
industrialization to American’s life
America’s life was affected during after the civil war that
resulted to industrialization in several ways. First, Machines
replaced labor force, and most of the people were jobless.
Secondly, the nuclear social composition was broken as the
movement was made easier which made both goods and
individuals to migrate (Fitzgerald, R. D. 2000).Third, living
standards among improved due to the discovery of better
sources of energy such as electricity and distribution of income.
Also, new consumer goods were brought to American’s market.
Fourth, the workplace environment moved indoors which
created a better working condition for workers and lastly, child
labor broke the traditional roles due to employments of children
to the industries. Other effects were the growth of urban centers
and many individuals moved from rural to urban in search of
employment, the emergency of roads, railways and canals for
