Roman bath houses were social centers where citizens would bathe daily, exercise, relax, and socialize. Baths had different pools for cold, warm, and hot water called frigidarium, tepidarium and caldarium, respectively, which were heated by the hypocaust system of fires below the floors. Before bathing, Romans would exercise by running, lifting weights, wrestling and swimming, then scrape off oil and sweat with a strigil tool before soaking in the pools.
