The Maidu people lived in the warm Sierra Nevada mountains near rivers and hills. They built roundhouses out of bark, brush and dirt for shelter. For food, they gathered acorns from trees and caught fish from rivers, using twine to make baskets and eating acorns and fish. The valleys and foothills provided additional shelter.
