The Mingo lived in longhouses and hunted animals like fish, elk, deer, and buffalo for food. They also gathered and grew crops such as corn and squash. For clothing, Mingo women wore jewelry in their hair while both men and women wore necklaces made of shells and beads from animal bones. Chief Logan, who was born in 1725, sought revenge for the killing of his family, which sparked Dunmore's War. He was famous for his speech "Logan's Lament". The Mingo had no written language and carried food in baskets. They were part of the Iroquois and had a tribal council chosen by clan mothers.
