4 way Recon - Necessity for all #digital #transactions in digital age
Reconciliation processing for the banking and financial services industry faces multiple
challenges including handling diverse reconciliation types and fluctuating transaction
volumes and growing manpower cost with also main scenario of finding skilled labour for the
job.
Here in such dynamic environment banks feel huge necessity and time lines to conclude
reconciliation operations. Various challenges that may arise are:
- Technological and Manpower: existing process and inefficient manpower at
disposal. This seriously hamper TAT and may result in delay in filing
chargeback/Representation of query.
- Client service: Due to delay in service client may be agitated as he is the one who
might have lost his money.
- Specialised entries: Different sources require different interpretations of entries eg,
CBS, Switch, Interchange, IMPS, ATM, Cash Recyclers, BBPS, Wallet, Prepaid,
Credit card, Bharat QR, Local networks, etc.
- Resolving Entries: Limited capabilities of electronic entries, lack of standard work
flow across various sources/departments impacting same day completion
- Manually performed Recon: Time consuming, error prone, open to fraud,
inconsistent processing, additional man-hours spent to perform manual checks and
that to max 2 way recon can be performed due to human limitations
- MI and Reports for management: Mostly manual or in inconsistent excel form due
lack of any system generated electronic dashboards
- Record maintenance: Time frame records to be maintained and retrieved on
demand.
- Technical issues: Roll back of entries in various transaction entities may result in
improper credit or debit entries
- Ever increasing volume: With world moving to cashless economy it has spiked
digital transactions exponentially.

StarRecon over view
In nutshell
- The System provides precise result through a unique #fourwayreconciliation
algorithm (EFT Switch-Interchange – Host – ATM EJ/POS LOG) to find out
matched, unmatched, amount mismatched, successful and unsuccessful
transactions out of the huge volume of transaction data. Four way reconciliation
covers and reconcile every entity which a transaction goes through; this leaves no
scope of any transaction being misplaced or left un-reconciled.
- Rule-Based Reconciliation – various rules can be set for reconciliation process as
parameters. Normally, reconciliation is done, when all the defined key fields are
matched exactly. In case of any mismatch in the key field (like difference in Amount
and Transaction Date), the transaction can still be reconciled based on the rules set
by the bank.
- Cross – Verification Process - StarRECON will maintain and generate Net-
Settlement report which bank can cross verify with the Interchange Net Settlement
Report received daily, this will help the bank to check the bank account balance
maintain with Interchange.
- Managing accounts of system reversals - partial and failure reversals.
- Error-prone manual #reconciliation process due to over-sight is eliminated and all
the transactions are reconciled from all the participating entities.
- Configurable way for Extraction of files which enables user to manage any change
in file format without contacting us. For eg. if in case the field format in the file of the
shared network ( #VISA, #Mastercard, #Rupay) has changed , user can
accommodate the same by changing the configuration without any code change.
- Advanced search options to track #Dispute #Complaints like #chargeback
#Representment, #Credit Adjustment, #Debit Adjustment complaint from the
entire database to arrive at accurate results. Bank can proactively credit and debit
the customer account without waiting for customer complain.
- Automated alerts for Chargeback System like prior remainder for elapsed wait days,
Good Faith etc.
- Computing Network Settlement Amount, by calculating total of issuer/acquirer
transactions, chargeback settlement and re-presentment, credit and debit adjustment
made and charges paid and received through each network.
- Computing net settlement fee amount for each shared networks
- Creating output files to upload to core banking software in the desired format to
debit /credit customer or any other account.
- Complete tracking of cash loading and computing the closing balance figures for
each ATM and arriving at ATM wise overage and shortage reports.
- User Management- system support flexible user management which can be
configured as per the requirements of bank.
- Various reports are available for the complete settlement, dispute management and
MIS purpose.
- Reports can be exported into different formats such as PDF, MS Word, MS Excel,
RTF etc.
