For effective development of the Maori language and culture, schools must dedicate specific time allocation to teaching Te Reo and Tikanga Maori. Teachers will decide between allocating half an hour per week or teaching blocks of 1 afternoon per week for 5 weeks over two school terms. This dedicated time is to be used solely for teaching the Maori language and culture and can occur concurrently depending on the timetable, but does not include general greetings throughout the day or integration into other subjects like art and social studies.
