This document outlines a plan for a short film promoting Berghaus clothing to be filmed in the Lake District National Park. The film will tell the story of a lone hiker exploring the lakes through subtle product placement of Berghaus gear. Locations include areas near the filmmaker's home and Keswick. Equipment to be used includes a DSLR, drone, and Insta360 camera. The crew consists of the filmmaker and two friends experienced with camera operation and drone filming. One actor friend will take the lead role. Storyboards and a shot list are included, with shots focusing on scenic landscapes and the Berghaus products. Audio and foley sounds will be used where music is not to set the atmosphere.

L AKE DISTRICT NATIONAL PARK X BERGHAUS
My project will be an adventure film based in the heart of
the lake district which will be used to advertise a new line of
clothing and hiking gear representing the Lake District
National Park and Berghaus as requested by the head of
design at the LDNP. I intend to use subtle branding
throughout the film with well placed products following the
story of a lone hiker who finds joy in exploring the lakes on
his own. As my film focuses on the technical aspects I want
to try and incorporate my friends drone and college’s
Insta360 camera as well as a DSLR to add more variety to
my shots. Editing will be done in both DaVinci Resolve for
colour grading and Adobe Premier Pro for construction and
other editing. If any effects are needed, I will look to After
Effects and my film will be distributed on social media
platforms such as YouTube and Instagram,.

4. LOCATIONS
Knaresborough river walk – 10-minute walk from my house, access by all people, free,
weather could be either way so I need to plan my days for filming.
Abbey Road – 10-minute walk from my house, public road so access by all and free,
weather could go either way so need to plan days for filming
Nidd gorge – 20-minute walk from my house, public area but always quiet given the
size, outdoors so planning for weather would have to be considered
Keswick - 2 hour car drive. Will bring my actor and myself along to gain shots I
wouldn’t have been able to get before. Will go on Tuesday 11th of April as weather
seems good and people are available.

5. EQUIPMENT
My main piece of filming equipment will be the DSLR
camera that I intend on borrowing from college. For
some of the other shots I want to try and include drone
shots from my friends drone to add more selection and
variety. College’s Insta360 camera is another alternative
to the drone but can also be used for fast paced shots
and tempo changes in my project.

6. FACILITIES
I have access to my laptop to edit my footage as it
provides the ability to edit wherever I want. Exporting
videos is also made easier as I can directly import due to
the SD card reader built into my laptop.

7. PERSONNEL CREW
CREW: What is you team? Who is in it? What are each
team members strengths/weaknesses? When are they
available?
Alex Elsworth: Alex was a major part in my fmp last year
being a lead camera operator which is by far his
strongest attribute.
Josh Askew: Has experience flying drones so will be an
asset in doing a lot of the none grounded shots
- All members of crew will be available on planned days
as they live locally

8. PERSONNEL CAST
CAST: Do you need any external performers? When are
they available? Cost implications? Will you have to feed
them? Transport them?
Jamie Brown: He was the main actor in my previous FMP
and provides versatility in several roles. Cost will be
minimal other than transport prices as he lives in the
next town along. Food and drink will be near all filming
sights so that we can take breaks when we need it.

Myself: My main roll will be as director of the project
meaning I have the say of where and what gets shot. I
will be behind the camera for near all the shots but if a
second actor is needed at any point, I can fulfill that roll
also.

10. PROPS/COSTUME/CONSUMABLE

As my film will represent a brand, I must
include some form of branding or
placement for the product I wish to use
which is why my actor will be wearing a
Berghaus jacket in all the shots with some
shots being a close-up to subtly emphasise
the branding. As the style of clothing is
mountain and outwear, I will have the
character dressed in hiking clothes to match
with the jacket he is wearing. This will
provide a continued theme throughout
which will ensure the viewer is not confused.
As the theme of the film is a happy
loneliness, I want my character to wear
brighter colours so the audience can convey
this sense of happiness and associate it with

11. HOUSE
STYLE
I intend on having a continuous style throughout
my project keeping to the same colours when
producing my video and the brand. The video
having a moody style while remaining with
emphasis on deeper colours such as green to
focus on the nature aspect will give connection
to the brand and its meaning so making sure I
use dark colours for the logo such as black will
help keep the continuance of my theme.

DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION
In my context board, I include a lot of images of green forests which
is the main area I will be filming from. When colour grading I found
using bright colours came out better and that contrasts with dark
colours associated with the theme of loneliness in my film which is
shown through shots such as those of long distance. I included the
scene from bird box as it displays both an aesthetic benefit using
fog on the water to create darkness and mystery and the overall
watching experience creates suspense and tension further
conveying the theme of loneliness. The colour pallets I included use
muted and natural colours to keep with the natural aesthetic feel of
my film. Black and white is something I’d like to try and use as a
method of flash backing to previous off-screen events which lead up
to now as it shows an obvious change from what the main story line
is. Natural lighting and shadows are another important part to
creating atmosphere and in my project, I want to use the shadows
to create tension which when combined with music creates a good
and intense watcher experience.

16. CONCEPT BOARD
DISCUSSION/EXPLANATION
This concept board was focusing on the marketing and
product aspect of my video. Looking at pre-existing brands
such as Berghaus allows me to gain a feeling of the type of
marketing they have done previously which makes planning
for my video easier. The setting of the lake district also fits
into the hiking theme of the collaboration brand. The
minimalism of the Audi posters and the advertising board is
a method used by the brand to place emphasis on the
product which when used with my idea can place the jacket
or the brand front and center which is what I’m wanting to
do. The use of font will be very minimal but the type of text
I want to use will either take on the minimal approach like
the posters or go for a more bold and standout effect which
pushes the brand in your face.

17. DRAFT IMAGE TESTING
• I used most of this time learning how to properly use my camera and become familiar with the equipment
I’m going to use. I went out on two occasions with Jamie to test my camera skills. One outside trying to
focus on movement and one inside in a more studio environment focusing on correcting iso and shutter
speed. The studio quality lighting really helped me with coming out with a clear image and using light in
my outside shots helped me realise I needed to improve how I use light when I shoot.
• I shot all these photos and videos with a subject or a topic in each which will allow me to gain practice for
when I shoot the commercial. Learning about the product placement and how to shoot things with
emphasis on the object or product was useful as now I have good experience and knowledge of what
angles and lighting to use. The example of the teddy displays an obvious approach to displaying an object
as the shot is front on but when compared to the red jacket and the shots of the outfit it takes a more
artistic approach which is what I wish to include in my project. This is a very similar style to what I will use
in the actual video so having the experience of taking photos with a model wearing a specific brand allows
me to use the same skills I’ve learnt here.

21. AUDIO AND OTHER PLANNING
My project will be dialogue free weather that be narration or character dialogue. As I have no dialogue
the use of foley sounds will be very important to create an appropriate atmosphere for my project.
Scenes where music isn’t involved, foley will be necessary as silent moments in my film will result in
poor watcher experience. An example would be in reference to the first square of my story board. A
character walking down the track as an introduction doesn’t require music as its an opening shot but
due to filming location I will need foley sound of surrounding wilderness such as wind blowing on
trees and birds squeaking. The most important however will be the footsteps of the character going
down the track which crucially need to fade away slowly to add to the realism. I will film foley on a
different day to my regular filming as doing both on the same day would require separate filming and
equipment. Foley cam also be completed in a different area to the filming location which makes it
easier to complete overall. iPhone mics are enough to film with but using college’s audio recorders
would be the best as I can directly import them onto my laptop as an MP3 file and they produce the
best and most natural sounding audio.
For sourcing my music I will look to websites that provide none copyright and loyalty free sound
pieces. Websites that I researched such as Artlist and SoundStripe have good none copyright music I
wish to use as I found it matches the tone of my project perfectly. The contrast of having suspenseful
and calming music in different points is vital to creating tone to my project.
Utilising backing audio over the top of my music is another way to convey the theme of loneliness
throughout my video so selected a poem or a sonnet to play over certain parts of my commercial will
better explain the story. A poem by the name “Silence Spoken” fits with my theme very well and fits
the short format of my video very well.

28. PRODUCTION SCHEDULE
During production I hope to have all my filming done
within at least half term time as that leaves the 4 weeks
after to edit and potentially re-draft the footage I have.
The first few hours in my production are pivotal as I can’t
return to the shooting location given the distance so
making use of the location and opportunities is very
important. With use of my laptop, I can spend time
working on my project at home and in college but
spreading out my time editing in college and reshooting
at home means I can reshoot and edit quickly and
efficiently.

29. PRODUCTION ORDER (KESWICK)
During my time in the lakes, I wish to shoot in parts of
the main town before going down to the lake and the
walk as it means I can optimize my time better and get
more shots. As the only available parking is in the center
it wouldn’t make sense to walk all the way down
instantly which means I have time to take shots of the
architecture if I want. As making a recce of the town and
shooting locations I want is difficult as its so far away I
will rely on memory to decide a lot of the shooting
locations as well as using the internet.
