4 H Research Paper
By: Alyssa Eashoo 11/21/14 4–H is growing more than just plants. By enriching the lives of the
youth with science, citizenship, and health, the club is planting qualities that will help and inspire
our future leaders. Every year since 4th grade Grace Ergle has found herself looking forward to a
specific week in the year, and for good reason. All her hard work for the past 6 months is about to
pay off. As she leads her steer off the trailer and into the pins at the showing arena, she is greeted by
familiar faces and many friends who have also participated in 4–H over the many years. 4–H is a
youth development program that promotes the positive development of youth through areas of
science, citizenship, and health. Being a notorious program ... Show more content on

Mr. Mike Joyner, the assistant commissioner in the Department of Agriculture of Florida, said "4–H
is a great way for youth of all ages to get involved and educated on agriculture, what is going on in
the government, and how to make healthy decisions. The club helps you use your 4–H's to go out
and help the world. I think that this is probably one of the best youth organizations to have your kids
involved in. As a father, I really encourage mine to be involved in some way." Those 4–H's being
head, hands, health, and heart, are impacting communities small and large. Each of the members in
4–H have gained excellent qualities that have helped them prepare for the future. Learning about
science, citizenship, and health, has helped these members gain an understanding and appreciation
for those involved in agriculture and engineering, the government officials, and not only their health,
but for others as well. "This club has helped me expand my capabilities in so many areas like people
skills, my responsibility, and time management has become a major key. Not to mention that it has
given me a ton of opportunities that look awesome on college applications," said Grace Ergle with a
little sarcasm in her voice. "I think being in 4–H even helped my brother get into University of
Florida's agricultural program!" Our youth of society today can become more enriched with
education and engaged in our community through the work of 4–H. With the skills gained from this
club, many public service officials, businessmen, and entertainers have already prospered in the
country. The youth today, now far more advanced in technology, can prosper so much more and help
our country and world to civility, and equality amongst us all. There are no qualifications to
participate in the club, just a want to learn more. If you are want to attend a 4–H meeting, or get
involved, their website, http://www.4–h.org/ , has countless

There are so many new teaching and learning practices involving blended and shared approaches
(Litoiu, 2014). Professional development is no longer just a face–to–face experience. There are now
virtual worlds and enhanced learning experiences that can increase an educators interactions with
colleagues and create a more involved and exciting learning experience (Litoiu, 2014). It is therefore
necessary for educators and other school professionals to obtain a number of new skills, to relearn
previous skills, and to meet the new social and knowledge demands (Aspin, 2001). According to
research and data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (2006), it shows that in
the 1999–2000 school year that 95 percent of the educators did take part in many different trainings
and workshops. By 2008, 78 percent of teachers reported that although they felt they did more
teaching in the classroom than learning themselves, that they did have a mentor teacher to help
support them in the classroom (Honawar, 2008).
Delivering Professional Development in Education In order for educators to master new skills,
practices, and meet new expectations, educators must be able to work with colleagues in order to
better understand and examine the new standards that are being proposed (Corcoran, 1995).
According to Corcoran (1995), "if teachers are to be adequately prepared to work effectively in the
classrooms and school environment...there must be an effective

Service Learning: An Exceptional Opportunity To Help Out...
I was very intrigued when I found out I was going to partake in a service learning project. I feel that
when someone participates in service learning, it is a great opportunity for them to become active
school. It also allows one to grow and apply what is learned. I truly feel that service learning is an
exceptional opportunity for someone who is ready to take advantage of everything learned and apply
it to help out in school.
My service learning experience is with the organization MAVstandup. I chose this organization
because I was drawn to the fact that it is important to have an organization that helps with sexual
awareness especially in college. I feel more safe and secure knowing that we have this organizations

Being A Teacher : My Experience Of Being A Teacher
As I logged onto my Facebook account last week, I received a notification saying that this time last
year I was a Junior Knight Summer Camp volunteer photographer. I was in total disbelief because
this year I actually got the chance to teach rising sixth graders along with my other two cohort
members. I must say that being a "teacher" is completely different than being a "volunteer". As a
teacher, you are held accountable for everything that goes on in and out of your classroom that
involves your students. I had the opportunity to be apart of the preparation process, build rapport
with my students, build great co–teaching relationships and develop my leadership qualities even
further.
During the preparation process for camp, we had the opportunity to decorate the room, organize
classroom materials and prepare lessons. We enjoyed creating integrated lesson plans that involved
science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). To focus specifically on the
mathematics component, one of the lessons we created involved one of the world's most popular
toys of today – the Fidget Spinner. Initially, we were going to use a regular game spinner for our
probability workstation but we wanted to make sure the students were engaged and having fun
learning math. The students had a task to export oil within the countries we focused on during the
week. The students had to export oil from Venezuela to Mexico, Brazil and Cuba but they could
only take twenty trips a year. As a

Diversity Reflection
The implications and understandings developed in class were a gateway in applying it to real world
work. Being given the opportunity to volunteer at The Continuum, I was able to understand the
meaning of disability in the lives of others. I saw firsthand how access, knowledge, and care can
transform a person's daily life in all aspects. With educative modules on assistive technology, culture
and care, family issues, and many others, I was able to transform my perspective and practice what I
am currently learning in the classroom. The Continuum provides a ReGenerations Adult Day Club
for "individuals who may deal with Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Stroke
Recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S.". This program is fundamental in providing an array of
different care, and I found it to be beneficial for more than just their members. Through my 15 hours
of volunteer experience with The Continuum, I analyzed how a person's disability can be managed
and addressed using a variety of techniques and methods, in caring for individuals.
My first day volunteering had me nervous, but with an excited anticipation of being able to help
others, while learning. I immediately assessed the location for how they incorporated accessibility in
their framework, in regard to, the layout, doors, and general environment. It is interesting how once
you are aware of something, it easily becomes incorporated in simple daily life. I was given a brief
reading and quiz so that I

Classroom Culture In The Classroom
Classroom Culture.
In order to create a positive classroom culture, teacher need to promote positive relationships
between students and with students by taking an interest and have respect for each other. It is
extremely important for teacher to get to know the students, their families, and their culture. When a
student knows their teacher cares about them, then a relationship of trust will exist between a
student and teacher. According to Sayeski and Brown (2011), "teachers who had positive
relationships with their student had 31 % fewer discipline problems and rule violations over the
course of the year than teachers who did not" (p. 12). In order to know more about them, I will send
home a poster board where the students can fill it with any information they would like me and their
classmates to know. This constructivist approach gives them the opportunity to be creative and
choose what they want to share. The essentialist approach of sending home a questionnaire for the
family to fill out will help collect information important to understanding the student. This is the
only category where I consider myself an essentialist and constructivist due to how information will
be gathered about my students, but this will allow me to build the framework for a positive learning
environment for everyone. Having students create a poster will allow their peers to get to know
them as an individual. Another way to create a positive environment is having students work
together to keep

Developers Conference Essay
The Game Developers Conference is held every year in San Francisco, with its dates being set for
March 19th to the 23rd of 2018. This conference is the largest and most important conference for
those in the Gaming Industry, and also it is known for its exceedingly high pass prices. The GDC
was first held in April of 1988, about 29 years ago. This first meeting consisted of 25 people in one
room discussing the future of computer gaming and learning from each other. Each year after the
first, the attendance numbers drastically grew and continue to this day.
Almost everyone in the industry, and those who aspire to join it, have a common dream of one day
either attending the conference or being featured at it as a developer. It is a footstep ... Show more

groups have been awarded 25 all access badges for their scholarships, a few of these would be: Girls
Make Games, Dames Making Games, The Global Game Jam, and I Need Diverse Games. These
groups are seeing it through to help students see that attending the GDC is not just a dream, but it
can easily become a reality. The Game Developers Conference gives students the opportunity to
work for them in order to attend the conference. These students would work as Conference
Associates, working for 25 hours during the show and the rest of the time they are able to enjoy the
show freely as an attendee. Besides free entree to the show, they are also payed to work. These
students would be responsible for an array of jobs including but not limited to: Badge scanning, bag
checking, conference session monitoring, and helping maintain the order of the conference and
assisting attendees.
Upon leaving the student world and joining the industry, it is important to still attend the conference.
At this point in your career, you will benefit the same way a student would, but with far more
understanding and with greater benefits at hand. You will have the opportunity to learn from others
and collaborate with other developers. Along with this you will be able to meet prospective team

Tonsillitis Case
1. The issue with Tonsillitis and the removal of my tonsils have been a very frustrating and
elongating issue for me until I really stepped away and looked at it from a different viewpoint.
Being that I am always wanting to be in control and also hate not being able to have the ability to do
things without interruption, this problem raised many conflicts with these things. I found myself
being mad, upset, and even depressed about it because I could not control what was happening. I
had to rely on doctors and medication, and I did not know how to truly process that. Also the
recovery process and having to go in for another procedure to remove the skin tissue from the
original surgery also motivated a lot of negative responses. But, during my ... Show more content on

Looking at the situation, the obvious answer is to flunk the student, or not feed the beggar who has
nothing to give. But, if you look at the situation from another angle, you can look at it as an
opportunity for the instructor to truly do something and give the student something of true value.
Also this can be looked upon as an opportunity for the instructor display a true Zen moment. To do
something for someone who can do nothing for you, and has nothing to offer. The instructor could
truly enlighten the student and give them the opportunity to truly see the error in their ways and
provide them the chance to truly grow. Failing the student, or not feeding the beggar does not satisfy
or answer any real need or satisfaction to the universe or person who is in the position to change the
situation. Failing the student does not truly teach the student about Zen because Zen has no timeline
or schedule. Failing them because they have not grasped the true teaching of Zen in a designated
timeline is not Zen like because everybody experience with Zen is different. So the opportunity of
the instructor to pass the student but, speak to them about their future journey with Zen and how to
become better in Zen would be good for both parties. Passing the student is a Zen opportunity for
both the instructor and the student and failing the student would be a missed opportunity for both the

Alpha Sorority Analysis
In my opinion the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is to better society as a whole
through the promotion of sisterhood, scholarship and service to it's member and mankind. They are
constantly evolving and reevaluating the needs of the human race. This is best emphasized in the
New Dimensions of Service, which outlines the five targets of the organization as it pertains to
service. I believe these targets are realistic, necessary and embody the main principle of Alpha
Kappa Alpha and how they are all necessary for the next principle to work. Sisterhood, scholarship
and service are principle that I believe I embody and will continue to uphold if allowed membership
into Alpha Kappa Alpha. Throughout my three years at the University ... Show more content on

I believe that I posses the level of ethical standards and integrity and dedication to sisterhood and
love for service, required to uphold the reputation of Alpha Kappa Alpha. These characteristics are
expressed in my actions and the strives I make to and improve my character daily through what I
call "small victories": small things that can be done to better myself and others daily. These are
achieved through academic integrity and doing my part, to volunteer, mentor and help people any
time presented the opportunity. My dedication to sisterhood in my opinion is rarely matched and is
one I have been nurturing for years, starting as a Girl Scout, continuing to Girls In The Game
program and most recently apart of a Sisters Inc, a mentoring/leadership program that I've had the
pleasure to be involved with in for over six years and have been involved with on numerous levels;
mentee, mentor, ambassador and alumni commitee. I've been afforded the opportunity to make life
long friends, mentor girls, build self esteem and develop in my journey to being an all around model
citizen. All of these programs not only showed me the importance of sisterhood but also scholarship
and service, showing me that a real sister are those that will help you and will except your help
back. A real sister is one who you never have to sacrifice your love of service you're your dedication
to scholarship for and lastly love you like blood. Lastly I believe that my love of service is
characteristic I believe that I can use to maintain the status of Alpha Kappa Alpha, from a young age
my grandmother would preach to me "do unto others...". From a young I knew it was my
responsibility to assist someone in need any chance I am given. And have carried this belief to every
organization I have joined for the Girl Scouts of America to my recent membership into the Student

Parents And The Quality Child Care Program
Parents' involvement in the Early Childhood Program is very important to enrich the quality child
care program. Some family may show lot of enthusiasm and interest while others may show little
interest to involve in the program. As mentioned by Essa and Young, "Regardless of the extent or
type of involvement, an involved parents is a far greater asset to the program than an uninvolved
one, since planning, implementing, and evaluating becomes a team effort" (2003, p. 184).This
program is a team work where three important players children, parents and teacher work together to
achieve the goal of the program. Parents might contribute to the program in the following ways:
1. Excellent source of resources: Parents are an excellent source of resources to the program.
Different parents have different expertise and skills which they can share with teacher and children
and can be a part of the curriculum. For example, if any parents is working as yoga instructor, he or
she can teach some basic yoga poses and techniques to the children which help children to be more
focused. If any Parents is working in the health sector, may give talk to the children about basic
health and hygiene practices. Parents working in the farming land can arrange short field trip for the
children where they get the opportunity to see fruits and vegetables growing and by visiting the farm
animals like cows, goats and chicken they also get the knowledge of the production of eggs, milk,

The Perfect Opportunity For Learning
have a chance to discuss the problem(s) and their ideas. This discussion is the perfect opportunity
for learning to occur. Stevens and Slavin (1995) explain the use of a "cognitive apprenticeship" in
which students of different achievement levels work together to learn new material. Students with
higher–level academic abilities are able to use their mastery of the concepts to give explanations to
the other students, whereas, the lower students are able to use the scaffolding of their fellow
classmates as a comprehension technique to understand the material. Cooperative learning is not
always looked at as the best teaching method. Some researchers have shown a disadvantage in group
work with student learning. Lower achieving students could fall behind due to their passive nature
or lack of confidence (King, 1993). If the high achieving students dominate the group and
discussions, the lower achieving students may not feel comfortable sharing in the discussion. In this
instance, the learning opportunity could pass them by without anyone realizing the lack of
understanding. Other shortcomings of cooperative learning is the time required for some groups to
work cohesively and the inability to teach the curriculum in a small group Cooperative Learning
setting (Good, Reys, Grouws, & Mulryan, (1989;1990).

Samantha needs to ensure she concentrates on Jacks positive behaviour instead of reacting to his
negative. Jacks needs are not being met and this is why Jack is behaving like this. Jack if requiring
his mums attention at any opportunity that he gets. This is because he does not see his mum that
much as she works all week and all day. Jacks mum could encourage his child–minder to enforce
positive behaviour with Jack and to do the reward system at the child–minders as well as at home.
This would help Jack not to get confused with being able to behave differently in different
environments. As a practitioners I would first suggest to reward system with Jack I would also
recommend taking part in calm activities when he arrives home from the child–minders such a
puzzles and books to keep Jack calm before going to bed.

communicate with other children and other members of staff. This child became particularly

Essay On Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell
(–– removed HTML ––)
Seong Hyun Kim(David)
ELA 11
Most people normally bring about personal qualities when they think for the main components of
success. However, Malcolm Gladwell, a famous writer, contradicts the assumption of people
through the book, Outliers. Gladwell insists that extrinsic factors define success rather than the
personal qualities. Nonetheless, Gladwell himself goes against the topic of Outliers in his assertion
about hard working "if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and
imagination, you can shape the world to your desires". Although people should work hard to seize
the opportunity for success, success actually came from extrinsic factors because opportunity of
relative age gives physical and emotional advantages through appropriate timing for birth,
opportunity to raise under the concerted cultivation increases one's practical intelligence, and
opportunity to fulfill 10,000 hours of practice guarantees time to achieve success at every field.
For first reason to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, 10,000 hours of practice is known as the minimal time to become a master in their
own field. It's important to have 10,000 hours of practice, but most of people can't fulfill 10,000
hours of practice because they do not have an opportunity to get 10,000 hours. In the case of
Outliers, Gladwell exemplifies Beatles to show the opportunity to get 10,000 hours of practice.
Beatles could fulfill 10,000 hours of practice in Hamburg for an opportunity to perform for 270
nights in just over a year and a half. Consequently, the Beatles became outliers in their music. The
lesson from Beatles is that people should seize an opportunity to practice 10,000 hours at their field.
Otherwise, the success doesn't approach to individuals. Therefore, the opportunity to fulfill 10,000
hours of practice challenges Gladwell's suggestion of hard

Differentiation Between Students And Learning Opportunities
Differentiation According to Tomlinson, 1999 "this model provides a framework for responding to
differences in students' current and developing levels of readiness, their learning profiles, and their
interests, to optimize the match between students and learning opportunities" (Tomlinson & Jarvis,
2009, p. 599). It takes into account student differences in "designing opportunities for each student
to engage with information and ideas" (Tomlinson & Jarvis, 2009, p. 599) Criterion 1: Respect for
individuals with diverse abilities, strengths, and goals (FULLY MET) "Differentiation provides a
framework for responding to differences in students' current and developing levels of readiness,
their learning profiles and their interests, to optimize the match between students and learning
opportunities" (Tomlinson and Jarvis, 2009, p. 599). Research has supported that adjusting content,
environments, processes and final products addresses students' differences. By incorporating
differentiation in the classroom and school, students' needs are addressed more fully and
opportunities to excel are given. Criterion 2: Provide for identification of out–of–school learning
opportunities that match students abilities and interests (FULLY MET) A student might have an
advanced knowledge of a subject that the teacher might "differentiate by helping a student develop a

Personal Reflection Essay
On Friday September 22nd, I attend one of the sessions titled "Your degree is not a Pigeon Hole"
conducted by Scott Mclean. To be honest, I was quite skeptical of the Faith and Arts Conference. I
told myself that I would just go to have a paragraph or two to write about, but I would not be
learning anything. I was greatly surprised by the presentation of Mr.Mclean. As I realized that
through the simplicity of his presentation, what God was trying to tell me in my time of questioning
in private was answered through a stranger I did not know. Mr. Mclean started by giving a brief
summary of his academic path that would later explain his gratitude towards his current
achievements. He was a medical major and he had only 17 credits left to complete his major's
requirement, but he stooped as he realized it was not what he wanted to pursue anymore. From the
beginning of his presentation Mr. Mclean grabbed my attention. Coming to Evangel, my goal was to

pursing that career path and needless to say that it is a great pride in our culture to have a lawyer in

My Experience As A Resident Assistant (UCO)
Brigadier General Diana Holland once said, "lead the way you want to be lead, follow the way you

leader means also knowing how to be a follower and be a part of something bigger than yourself. I
believe that being a leader doesn't always mean being at the front of the line. Being a leader means
supporting, encouraging and empowering others to become their own potential. Through my three
years at UCO, I have ben able to reflect on the person I was when I enrolled as a freshman and see
the immense growth that I have gained from being a student at UCO. The most exciting part is that I

Service Learning Individual Reflection
During the spring semester of 2015, I took the Service–Learning course in psychology (Psych 410).
The general structure of this course included attending a 70 minutes long class on Mondays and
Wednesdays to learn about service learning from the psychology field perspectives, reading
scientific articles, conducting literature reviews to broaden my understanding of the subject, and in
class constructive discussions with my colleagues. The course required 50 hours of community
service at any local organizations or schools. From February 24 to May 8, I volunteered at the Arc of
southern Maryland, an organization that provides residential services for individuals with
intellectual disability. This organization has several homes in the Leonardtown area. Each home has
four to five residents that are grouped based on the developmental disability conditions. As part of
the class, I was required to write eight reflection papers about my volunteer site visits that were
minimum of one page. Additionally, the class required me to develop a hypothetical program that
would be beneficial for the individuals that I worked with.

The first time I realize what was to be self–awareness it was when I asked my psychologist how I
decided the correct time to leave my ex–husband. The psychologist told me to prepare myself

that time, I used my integrity to help a friend who needed me. And I was so happy to do that not just

Instructional Coaches And Teacher Librarians
In the surprisingly positive aftermath of a recent interview with Scott Munro and a plethora of
Elementary principals I was encouraged to present a proposal to you with regard to ways in which I
may be able to offer my support as our district moves toward digital personalized learnings. It was
both a stroke of genius and a gamble for the district to encode both Instructional Coaches and
Teacher Librarians into more pivotal roles in the LIFT initiative. Both of those roles have an obvious
and important presence in the new world order of digitally integrated schools and both groups
perceive themselves as suffering from a mix of ambivalence and ambiguity within our district. By
offering both collectives a voice in the development of a new framework for their jobs, you have
been able to win back some of those that felt marginalized and clarified the road ahead for those
more reluctant to change. That the district has taken the time to understand and listen before pushing
forward with redefining what has been for many as much an identity as a profession is a testament to
the district's effort and desire to not simply enforce change to do so in a thoughtful way. That you
have chosen to use those newly defined role in such a lynchpin between the theory and application
of personalized learning is a statement of their inherent value and your faith in their ability. There is,
naturally, a risk offering this new team as a conduit to smoother digital migrations and more

Military Retention Operations At The Army
Army Retention Operations At age four I knew that I would someday serve in the Armed Forces. I
primarily focused on serving in the Army but had a few distractions through the years. During the
summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I decided it was time to talk to an Army
recruiter and evaluate my options. My only desire was to join the Army; I had not given much
thought to what exactly in the Army I would like to do. I had no idea or conception of an
opportunity to serve in a position on the Army Staff at the Pentagon. After 19 years of service I was
given just that opportunity. While very stressful and a demanding work environment, Army
Retention Operations was a valuable learning and growing experience where I gained a strategic
perspective of the Army through interaction with other governmental agencies and was able to
influence Army Retention policy. History and Selection to the Army Staff I served three years in the
Army from June 1988 to June 1991 as a Combat Engineer (12B). I then spent over four years
experiencing civilian life and college. In March 1995 I reentered the Army with plans to make the
Army my career leading to retirement. I served my first eight years in the Army as a Combat
Engineer. I discovered a desire for a different career path in 1997 when I was required to reenlist for
an assignment to Germany. While in Germany I sought out an additional duty as the Company
Reenlistment NCO in a desire to assist Soldiers and NCOs

My Placement Learning Opportunity ( Plo )
My Placement Learning Opportunity (PLO) took place within the voluntary sector at an organisation
named Extern. The project I specifically worked in was the Intensive Family Support Service
(IFSS). Referrals for this service were mainly submitted by social services however, request for
service could also be made through the doctors, housing executive, youth justice agency or the
police. IFSS provided a tailored care plan specific to each individual/family in order to meet the
needs required. It offers a more 'hands on ' approach so that the outcome is as positive as possible.
My role within this PLO setting was to work alongside relevant legislation, policies and procedures
and engage with service users and their families to meet ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However the request for service for Ms X outlines that specific work around routines, boundaries
and communications needs to be carried out. Engaging with social services has been a challenge for
Ms X as her children are experiencing difficult comments from other children in the street due to
their involvement with social services. Ms X continuously states that she just wants social services
to "go away and leave her alone".
Prior to engaging with Ms X for the commencement of work, it is necessary to 'tune in ' to the case
circumstances applying a holistic approach to gain as much insight to the service user(s) as possible
before contact is made. Douglas (2008) states that "the pre–contact phase which helps to prepare the
social work student for face–to face intervention, is a prerequisite for effective practice". With this
in mind, I took the opportunity to contact the designated social worker assigned to this family to
arrange a one–to–one meeting to allow for more information sharing. This meeting proved to be
positive and it allowed me to gather more insight to this case from the observations and findings
from another individual. However I must be sceptic in these circumstances and not take all
information as face value. Referring to the conceptual model (...), each

Personal Experience : The Challenges Of Opportunities For...
Opportunities for Learning While I am impressed with how our group performed, I would propose a
few changes if I were to do it again. After our group chose the community, it would have been
helpful to have a meeting before we actually visited the community to establish a plan on what we
wanted to do during our visit. At this first meeting, I would have proposed appointing a leader of the
group. This could be anyone that stepped up to the job and could reached via a consensus.
Moreover, a leader would have been helpful in making decisions and would have the final say in our
decisions, research, and presentation style. Having someone specifically to assigned this task would
have helped solve conflict, make decisions, and be more effective ... Show more content on

Secondly, the Downtown Eastside group did an amazing job at outlining the community from an
outsider's perspective as well as acknowledging that position in the presentation. What stood out to
me was their ability to humbly and gracefully answer questions from their classmates, especially
when the questions came across as an attack. Further, their presentation had comprehensive maps
and visuals that aided the presentation. Moreover, I could tell how much they cared about their topic
and how much effort they put into the project with the inclusion of the strengths and weaknesses of
the services in the area. Thirdly, the Whalley Strip group did a great job doing fieldwork, especially
because so much of their information was unable to be found on the Internet. This inclusion
demonstrated their commitment to the project, which was also evident in the cohesiveness of their
presentation and well–done PowerPoint. Overall, they also gave a thorough intersectional analysis
of the community that validated their argument. Fourthly, I admired how the Gastown group took an
entirely different approach to their project by framing their assessment around their issue and
proposed solution. Their solution (a community garden) was concrete and tangible and they did an
amazing job of convincing the audience that is was necessary for the community in regards to social
cohesion and food security. By framing their

Technology And Technology
The effect of the creation of the internet on individuals is hard to quantify. While it has led to many
positive changes for society, many would argue it has only complicated our lives, but the increased
access to learning and cultural resources and information is difficult to ignore as a source of self–
improvement. In the essay "Project Classroom Makeover" Cathy Davidson discusses how students
born in the information age interact differently with learning because of their experiences on the
internet. Thomas Lethem also posits that changes in our environment, like the creation of the
internet, change the art that we create in his essay "The Ecstasy of Influence: A Plagiarism." Even
with these great resources, human nature does not always tend towards the self–improvement made
possible by the internet and humans often self–organize to avoid it. In the essay "The Myth of the
Ant Queen" Steven Johnson discusses how humans tend to group themselves up in ways that keep
different types of people separate and aim to minimize personal growth and improvement. Fighting
against this human tendency towards complacency, the internet has created incredible opportunity
for individuals to improve themselves by learning and expanding their minds through access to
global culture, free information, and instant social interaction without borders. Despite this, many
people have ended up in internet communities where they do not see global culture, are given false
information, and have interactions with only a very ideologically limited set of people. This can lead
people to become more misinformed and hostile to ideas other than their own, so to fully take the
opportunity granted by the internet, individuals must push themselves to not settle into any such
narrowly defined community and to use the resources given to them. To understand why this self–
motivation is so important, it is important to first understand how much opportunity the internet and
technology provide. The advent of advanced computing technology and the rise of the internet have
made a wide range of tools for self–improvement available for cheap or even free. One way that
many of these tools allow for self–improvement is through exposure to pieces of culture that

Learning : A Whole New World Of Opportunities Up
"Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays
young," Henry Ford famously said. Within this quote he exemplifies the importance of learning and
implies how people tend to lose the drive in their later years. It is extremely important that people
continue growing and evolving in their education throughout their life. To be educated opens a
whole new world of opportunities up. An education does not mean only going to school, taking
tedious notes, stressing over tests and exams, and staying up late writing papers, but to get the
entirety of the education, you must absorb it. Learning goes beyond the classroom and into our daily
lives. It is through the three major styles of learning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Associations begin to form and the previously neutral stimulus is now the conditioned stimulus that
can trigger a response (Cherry, 2015). The neural stimulus elicits no response before conditioning.
In classical conditioning, unconditioned stimulus (US), unconditioned response (UR), conditioned
stimulus (CS), and conditioned response (CR) play a big role. US is a natural event that triggers a
response. UR is a natural response to unconditioned stimulus. CS is when after association, it
triggers a response. CR is a learned response to a previous neutral change (Myers, 2008). It is
through this that we can learn associations between events we cannot control. During the initial
stage, acquisition happens which is when one links a neutral stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus
so that the neutral stimulus begins triggering the conditioned response (Myers, 2008).
Like many great scientific discoveries, classical conditioning was discovered on accident. It all
began in the 1890s when a Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov noticed that his dogs salivated
whenever he would enter the room in response to being fed. They would salivate even when he did
not have food with him. This made him begin researching why. He conducted experiments testing
what associations the dogs would make through learning, and soon added a bell to the equation. So
now when the dogs received their food, he would ring the bell. Not after long, he would be able to
make them salivate from

Study Abroad Could Be So Much Better Summary
Studying abroad will bring the students into a new environment where will have experiences of a
lifetime. My brother is one who came back with several great experiences. He got to see the world.
Studying abroad is a thing that will get students out of the U.S. They will be out of the area that they
most likely lived in their whole life. This experience will introduced them to a new culture that is
unique. They will be part of a completely new culture and surrounded by that culture. Too many
students only know what's in the US. Living abroad for a year will give them information about that
foreign country and also allow them to travel to what's almost a whole new world in a relatively
short trip. Countries in Europe are all close together and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A huge point in her argument is that both when a student is leaving to go the the country and when
they are coming home the student is never prepared for the cultural experience. She provides facts
about a survey that she conducted showing how few students are being prepared efficiently for the
change. She created a survey of 350 students from across the US where she said that only "one–
fourth of students were provided with any cross–cultural training before they left"(Berdan). She is
arguing that more students need to be prepared from the beginning of the experience and even when
they are going back home to the states. While this may be true that not enough students are prepared
for the change, the change that they are going through is one that is almost impossible to do
successfully. Students that study abroad would be placed into a different country with a handful of
students that are similar to them is a unique experience and something that can not be prepared for.
This world is changing so learning from a textbook that is outdated is not as beneficial as living

College : Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze?
College: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze?
Many students face internal battles during their college careers; sleepless nights, studying for exams,
constant social issues, and the fear of not having a definitive career path. This all leads to the
questions "why am I here"? "What is the true purpose of college?" Many writers have described
these struggles in great detail. They feel the reward for overcoming these struggles is intellectual
growth. This growth is achieved by challenging themselves, acquiring knowledge in multiple fields,
and learning how to become an essential part of society.
An effective way for students to achieve intellectual growth is by challenging themselves in several
different ways. David Hodge, President of Miami University in Oxford, claims that college is a
place for "intellectual collisions" to occur (qtd in "What is"). He emphasizes the notion that college
is best served as a time to challenge the mind in several forms. Each student is placed in a
competitive learning environment that undoubtedly helps mold teenagers into adults. College isn't
easy, and nor should it be. Having professors who refuse to let students skate by allows them to
obtain an understanding of what the professional world is like. Outside of college, young adults are
unlikely to find an academic setting that is used primarily to enhance their intellectual prowess. The
access to interacting with intelligent peers, guidance from experienced professors and

The Pros And Cons Of Capitalization
Capitalization
We live in the era of Globalization, which refers to the international integration of goods, services,
people, and money with the purpose of making an area more profitable or productive, or useful. This
term sounds good for everybody. If we exchange all these components, the living of the global
citizens raises, but this is not all true. In fact, this exchange originates more macrolevel issues
globally, and with these problems, also microlevel issues. I'm not saying it has not been an effective
way all these past years to benefit the population with a more worldwide opportunity to success, but
has it been addressed correctly? Let's take a look to some of the problems that overrun our world.
Many nations go blind with the idea of "producing" more profitable people for their countries'
economic growth to the point that they strength up iceberg–issues in society, problems that only
their top are known but their bottom are unacknowledged. When we explore these issues deeper we
find that there is an inequality in human rights. One of the main rights that is not given in a same
quality to everybody is education. For instance, students from wealthy families get the chance to go
to good schools and universities, while students living in poverty have minimum chances to go to
good schools or they don't even get the opportunity to attend college, as it has been proven to us in
the podcast "Carlos doesn't remember", when Carlos is given the opportunity to attend a

to the research, children spanked up to the age of 6 were likely as teenagers to perform better at

In-Class Reflection
Highlights of my activities:
As a part of the required activities for the course EGR9220 "Teaching in Higher Education
Practicum" at Villanova University, I have had the opportunity to teach a few sessions for CEE2105
for fall semester 2017, supervised by Dr. David Dinehart. On Wednesday November 1st, I recorded
two lectures to be posted on the blackboard and viewed by students prior to their in–class session on
the following Friday and Monday. I received the PowerPoint slides for those recorded session from
Dr. Dinehart, however, added certain material to them with his consent. In particular, I added a nine–
step problem solving procedure to be implemented during in–class sessions, 37 and 38. The total
duration of the recorded sessions was about 26 minutes. The first recording was titled "Centroids of
the composite areas", and the second recording was titled "Centroid of composite areas, lines, and
volumes".
On Friday November 3rd, I instructed two in–class problem solving sessions from 8:30' AM to 9:20'
AM, and from 9:30' AM to 10:20' AM, both on the topic of centroids of composite areas. From the
two in–class sessions, the second session was recorded and posted on the blackboard webpage as
well. The problems and solutions for both sessions were provided by Dr. Dinehart, and per his
request, I tried my best to comply with his formatting in writing of the material on the touchscreen.
At the end of both sessions, questionnaires that were previously designed by myself were

Physical Benefits Of Line Dancing
Section B
Line Dancing is fun, sociable and beneficial for the Youth
Line Dancing is an activity that I recommend and encourage the youth to get involved with. Line
dancing is a dance done to country music by a line of people (dancers) without partners, following a
choreographed pattern of steps.
Line dancing has been around, in one form or another, since before Christ. The type of dancing we
do today evolved from the "Contra" dance that is an old style and was very popular from the early
1800's in the New England States. The style in the 1800's was that two lines of dancers would form
with women on the one side and men on the other. The men from the one side would partner with
the women from the side between the two lines and usually do their own routine down the middle
and when that pair was done and reached the end of the lines, they would separate and move back
into their respective line, then the next pair would do the same and so on. Then in the 1970's, the
style of line dancing we do today was formed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners Essay
New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners
The concept of adults as learners emerged both in this country and in Europe shortly after World
War I; however, only in the last few decades has the theory of adult learning matured. Knowles,
Tough, Houle, and Park, among others, have written extensively on the idea of the adult learner. In
Tennant's book (1997), he discussed Knowles' adult learning theory. Knowles used the term
andragogy to label adult learning theory. The andragogical model of the adult learner is based on the
assumptions that adults need to know; adults have a need to be self–directed learners and have a
self–concept of being responsible for their own decisions and for their own lives; adults bring

It is a popular and useful instructional medium for a number of reasons. It is easily accessible, it
supports flexible storage and display options, it provides a simple yet powerful publishing format
and a means to incorporate multiple media elements (Henke,1997). The possibilities of Web–based
instructions are boundless and seems to have the potential to meet the needs of adult learners.
The WWW can provide stimulating material to enhance and enrich the learning experience by using
graphics, sound, video and virtual environments. It supports learning in 'own space, own pace, and
own time' (Henke,1997). It has limitless possibilities of interactive computer multimedia instruction.
The potential benefits include personalized instruction, active learning, instant feedback, real world
simulation, as well as faster and more effective teaching and empowerment of learners (McManus,
1995). With all these benefits, WWW as an instruction delivery medium can indeed enhance
learning and meet the needs of adult learners. In addition, media are not mere vehicles that deliver
instruction but they are important components of the learning process. Studies have shown certain
media attributes are necessary for specific learning tasks, learning situations, and learners'
characteristics.

The Perfect Opportunity For Learning
have an opportunity to talk about their ideas. This discussion is the perfect opportunity for learning
to happen. According to Stevens and Slavin (1995) "cognitive apprenticeship" is elaborated in that,
students of different levels of achievement work together to learn. Students with higher–level
academic abilities are able to use their own understanding to explain to the other students, whereas,
the lower students are able to use the explanation from their fellow classmates to understand the
material. Cooperative learning is not always viewed looked as the best teaching method.
Other researchers have shown a disadvantage in group work with regard to teaching students. Slow
learning students may lag behind due to their passive nature or lack of confidence (King, 1993).
When the quick learning students dominate the group and discussions, the lower achieving students
may not feel open and free to contributing in the discussion. In this case, the learning opportunity
could pass them by without anyone noticing the lack of understanding. Other limitations of
cooperative learning is the time required for some groups to work in unity and unable to teach the
curriculum in a small group Cooperative Learning setting (Good, Reys, Grouws, & Mulryan,
(1989;1990).
2.2 Related Research When referring back to the topic of cooperative learning technique, a lot of
efforts and steps were taken throughout the previous years, and there are still a lot of works that can
be done on it too.

Descriptive Essay About Going To The City
Leaving home to come to a city so far away for college was one of the hardest decisions that I've
ever been faced with. I was excited at first, but when the time came around of my leaving,
nervousness started to come the surface. I was excited because this would be the opportunity for me
to spread my wings and leave the nest, but I was nervous because I had never been so far away from
my family. I had always been in close proximity of their reach. I was nervous because I would no
longer be able to just run home and hide from my problems, I would have to face the real world, I
would have to face the things I've been sheltered from my whole life.
My decision changed on the regular basis, I never really had a set plan although I had visited the
University of Cincinnati multiple times and I had traveled around the city and I fell in love with it. I
never saw myself moving across the city because of how sheltered I was but I knew that I needed to
break away. A day came where I decided to devote time to calculate the costs of each school to see
which one would fit my financial budget. I liked how the University of Cincinnati's tuition was
relatively cheaper than my initial top choices. The final straw of making my decision was that the
city itself as well as the school was very diverse, which gave me a sense of belonging.
I gathered enough information to make me want to come to the University of Cincinnati, but I didn't
gather enough information on calculating the costs. I

Field Motivation And Field Observation
Field observations have been really fun lately. The kids are all so original and unique. They come
from many different backgrounds. Getting to know these students feels like such a blessing, it makes
me yern for my chance to lead the team. I find myself becoming a little sad that I only have four
more observation days with them. Its hard to make a connection and start a relationship when you
know you will probably never see them again. But its all about being thankful for the now, so I will
appreciate my opportunity to get to know them and try not to get too attached to them. These kids
are all amazing in their own way, regardless of the challenges they encounter along the way they are
all special. I dont know all of the students backgrounds but its amazing how much an unstable home
life can affect a students learning. I have always worked with students at the Crestone Charter
school and its such a titght nit community that even when students struggle there is always someone
there looking after them and when new situations arise we pull together to help the student succeed.
In this situation as a teacher you have no outside control or connection with these studetns. You are
blessed with a few hours a day for a short period of time and then you never see them again. You
cant really help their social situation or improve their home life. I have realized that for some, the

I Have The Pleasure Of Teaching Maiyuki Druen Essay
I have had the pleasure of teaching Maiyuki Druen for three years; as an 8th grader in Advanced
Geometry, as a sophomore in Math 174 Dual Credit Pre–Calculus through Morehead State
University, and currently as a junior in AP Calculus. In 8th grade, Maiyuki chose to arrive at school
an hour earlier in order to take Advanced Geometry at the high school. She was by far the best
student in the class, even though she was in a class of extremely bright freshmen and sophomore
high school students. Constantly pursuing opportunities for herself, as a sophomore, she chose to
take a dual credit class designed for juniors and seniors. She requested special permission in order to
take this college level class as a sophomore, and it was granted based on her stellar academic record.
She continues to push herself academically in my AP Calculus class. She accepts the challenging
problems I assign to the class as an opportunity to further develop her understanding of the
mathematics we are studying. She often spends time analyzing the different approaches to a problem
in order to determine the best course of action, and will diligently work the solution discussing her
results with her peers. Often I will observe her having a discussion about the problem solving
process with a fellow student rather than just conferring about her solution.
While actively engaging in class discussions, she will articulate beautiful solutions in such detail
that even the most struggling students can

4 H Research Paper

  • 1. 4 H Research Paper By: Alyssa Eashoo 11/21/14 4–H is growing more than just plants. By enriching the lives of the youth with science, citizenship, and health, the club is planting qualities that will help and inspire our future leaders. Every year since 4th grade Grace Ergle has found herself looking forward to a specific week in the year, and for good reason. All her hard work for the past 6 months is about to pay off. As she leads her steer off the trailer and into the pins at the showing arena, she is greeted by familiar faces and many friends who have also participated in 4–H over the many years. 4–H is a youth development program that promotes the positive development of youth through areas of science, citizenship, and health. Being a notorious program ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mr. Mike Joyner, the assistant commissioner in the Department of Agriculture of Florida, said "4–H is a great way for youth of all ages to get involved and educated on agriculture, what is going on in the government, and how to make healthy decisions. The club helps you use your 4–H's to go out and help the world. I think that this is probably one of the best youth organizations to have your kids involved in. As a father, I really encourage mine to be involved in some way." Those 4–H's being head, hands, health, and heart, are impacting communities small and large. Each of the members in 4–H have gained excellent qualities that have helped them prepare for the future. Learning about science, citizenship, and health, has helped these members gain an understanding and appreciation for those involved in agriculture and engineering, the government officials, and not only their health, but for others as well. "This club has helped me expand my capabilities in so many areas like people skills, my responsibility, and time management has become a major key. Not to mention that it has given me a ton of opportunities that look awesome on college applications," said Grace Ergle with a little sarcasm in her voice. "I think being in 4–H even helped my brother get into University of Florida's agricultural program!" Our youth of society today can become more enriched with education and engaged in our community through the work of 4–H. With the skills gained from this club, many public service officials, businessmen, and entertainers have already prospered in the country. The youth today, now far more advanced in technology, can prosper so much more and help our country and world to civility, and equality amongst us all. There are no qualifications to participate in the club, just a want to learn more. If you are want to attend a 4–H meeting, or get involved, their website, http://www.4–h.org/ , has countless ... Online Professional Development: Environment and Involvement Amanda Gilman Concordia University A Research Report Presented to The Graduate Program in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements For the Degree of Masters in Education Concordia University – Portland 2015 Does online professional development provide a better learning environment and opportunity for involvement? Review of the Literature This literature review was started in an effort to examine the question: Does online professional development provide a better learning environment and opportunity for involvement? Professional development is critical for educators to have opportunities to keep up to date on research, technology, curriculum, and personal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are so many new teaching and learning practices involving blended and shared approaches (Litoiu, 2014). Professional development is no longer just a face–to–face experience. There are now virtual worlds and enhanced learning experiences that can increase an educators interactions with colleagues and create a more involved and exciting learning experience (Litoiu, 2014). It is therefore necessary for educators and other school professionals to obtain a number of new skills, to relearn previous skills, and to meet the new social and knowledge demands (Aspin, 2001). According to research and data collected by the National Center for Education Statistics (2006), it shows that in the 1999–2000 school year that 95 percent of the educators did take part in many different trainings and workshops. By 2008, 78 percent of teachers reported that although they felt they did more teaching in the classroom than learning themselves, that they did have a mentor teacher to help support them in the classroom (Honawar, 2008). Delivering Professional Development in Education In order for educators to master new skills, practices, and meet new expectations, educators must be able to work with colleagues in order to better understand and examine the new standards that are being proposed (Corcoran, 1995). According to Corcoran (1995), "if teachers are to be adequately prepared to work effectively in the classrooms and school environment...there must be an effective ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Service Learning: An Exceptional Opportunity To Help Out... I was very intrigued when I found out I was going to partake in a service learning project. I feel that when someone participates in service learning, it is a great opportunity for them to become active school. It also allows one to grow and apply what is learned. I truly feel that service learning is an exceptional opportunity for someone who is ready to take advantage of everything learned and apply it to help out in school. My service learning experience is with the organization MAVstandup. I chose this organization because I was drawn to the fact that it is important to have an organization that helps with sexual awareness especially in college. I feel more safe and secure knowing that we have this organizations in school so they can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Being A Teacher : My Experience Of Being A Teacher As I logged onto my Facebook account last week, I received a notification saying that this time last year I was a Junior Knight Summer Camp volunteer photographer. I was in total disbelief because this year I actually got the chance to teach rising sixth graders along with my other two cohort members. I must say that being a "teacher" is completely different than being a "volunteer". As a teacher, you are held accountable for everything that goes on in and out of your classroom that involves your students. I had the opportunity to be apart of the preparation process, build rapport with my students, build great co–teaching relationships and develop my leadership qualities even further. During the preparation process for camp, we had the opportunity to decorate the room, organize classroom materials and prepare lessons. We enjoyed creating integrated lesson plans that involved science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). To focus specifically on the mathematics component, one of the lessons we created involved one of the world's most popular toys of today – the Fidget Spinner. Initially, we were going to use a regular game spinner for our probability workstation but we wanted to make sure the students were engaged and having fun learning math. The students had a task to export oil within the countries we focused on during the week. The students had to export oil from Venezuela to Mexico, Brazil and Cuba but they could only take twenty trips a year. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Diversity Reflection The implications and understandings developed in class were a gateway in applying it to real world work. Being given the opportunity to volunteer at The Continuum, I was able to understand the meaning of disability in the lives of others. I saw firsthand how access, knowledge, and care can transform a person's daily life in all aspects. With educative modules on assistive technology, culture and care, family issues, and many others, I was able to transform my perspective and practice what I am currently learning in the classroom. The Continuum provides a ReGenerations Adult Day Club for "individuals who may deal with Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Stroke Recovery, Parkinson's disease, and M.S.". This program is fundamental in providing an array of different care, and I found it to be beneficial for more than just their members. Through my 15 hours of volunteer experience with The Continuum, I analyzed how a person's disability can be managed and addressed using a variety of techniques and methods, in caring for individuals. My first day volunteering had me nervous, but with an excited anticipation of being able to help others, while learning. I immediately assessed the location for how they incorporated accessibility in their framework, in regard to, the layout, doors, and general environment. It is interesting how once you are aware of something, it easily becomes incorporated in simple daily life. I was given a brief reading and quiz so that I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 21. Classroom Culture In The Classroom Classroom Culture. In order to create a positive classroom culture, teacher need to promote positive relationships between students and with students by taking an interest and have respect for each other. It is extremely important for teacher to get to know the students, their families, and their culture. When a student knows their teacher cares about them, then a relationship of trust will exist between a student and teacher. According to Sayeski and Brown (2011), "teachers who had positive relationships with their student had 31 % fewer discipline problems and rule violations over the course of the year than teachers who did not" (p. 12). In order to know more about them, I will send home a poster board where the students can fill it with any information they would like me and their classmates to know. This constructivist approach gives them the opportunity to be creative and choose what they want to share. The essentialist approach of sending home a questionnaire for the family to fill out will help collect information important to understanding the student. This is the only category where I consider myself an essentialist and constructivist due to how information will be gathered about my students, but this will allow me to build the framework for a positive learning environment for everyone. Having students create a poster will allow their peers to get to know them as an individual. Another way to create a positive environment is having students work together to keep ... • 25. Developers Conference Essay The Game Developers Conference is held every year in San Francisco, with its dates being set for March 19th to the 23rd of 2018. This conference is the largest and most important conference for those in the Gaming Industry, and also it is known for its exceedingly high pass prices. The GDC was first held in April of 1988, about 29 years ago. This first meeting consisted of 25 people in one room discussing the future of computer gaming and learning from each other. Each year after the first, the attendance numbers drastically grew and continue to this day. Almost everyone in the industry, and those who aspire to join it, have a common dream of one day either attending the conference or being featured at it as a developer. It is a footstep ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first off would be the various scholarships that are offered through the GDC. Several different groups have been awarded 25 all access badges for their scholarships, a few of these would be: Girls Make Games, Dames Making Games, The Global Game Jam, and I Need Diverse Games. These groups are seeing it through to help students see that attending the GDC is not just a dream, but it can easily become a reality. The Game Developers Conference gives students the opportunity to work for them in order to attend the conference. These students would work as Conference Associates, working for 25 hours during the show and the rest of the time they are able to enjoy the show freely as an attendee. Besides free entree to the show, they are also payed to work. These students would be responsible for an array of jobs including but not limited to: Badge scanning, bag checking, conference session monitoring, and helping maintain the order of the conference and assisting attendees. Upon leaving the student world and joining the industry, it is important to still attend the conference. At this point in your career, you will benefit the same way a student would, but with far more understanding and with greater benefits at hand. You will have the opportunity to learn from others and collaborate with other developers. Along with this you will be able to meet prospective team members and students that are either ... The issue with Tonsillitis and the removal of my tonsils have been a very frustrating and elongating issue for me until I really stepped away and looked at it from a different viewpoint. Being that I am always wanting to be in control and also hate not being able to have the ability to do things without interruption, this problem raised many conflicts with these things. I found myself being mad, upset, and even depressed about it because I could not control what was happening. I had to rely on doctors and medication, and I did not know how to truly process that. Also the recovery process and having to go in for another procedure to remove the skin tissue from the original surgery also motivated a lot of negative responses. But, during my ... But, if you look at the situation from another angle, you can look at it as an opportunity for the instructor to truly do something and give the student something of true value. Also this can be looked upon as an opportunity for the instructor display a true Zen moment. To do something for someone who can do nothing for you, and has nothing to offer. The instructor could truly enlighten the student and give them the opportunity to truly see the error in their ways and provide them the chance to truly grow. Failing the student, or not feeding the beggar does not satisfy or answer any real need or satisfaction to the universe or person who is in the position to change the situation. Failing the student does not truly teach the student about Zen because Zen has no timeline or schedule. Failing them because they have not grasped the true teaching of Zen in a designated timeline is not Zen like because everybody experience with Zen is different. So the opportunity of the instructor to pass the student but, speak to them about their future journey with Zen and how to become better in Zen would be good for both parties. Alpha Sorority Analysis In my opinion the purpose of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. is to better society as a whole through the promotion of sisterhood, scholarship and service to it's member and mankind. They are constantly evolving and reevaluating the needs of the human race. This is best emphasized in the New Dimensions of Service, which outlines the five targets of the organization as it pertains to service. I believe these targets are realistic, necessary and embody the main principle of Alpha Kappa Alpha and how they are all necessary for the next principle to work. Sisterhood, scholarship and service are principle that I believe I embody and will continue to uphold if allowed membership into Alpha Kappa Alpha. Throughout my three years at the University ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I believe that I posses the level of ethical standards and integrity and dedication to sisterhood and love for service, required to uphold the reputation of Alpha Kappa Alpha. These characteristics are expressed in my actions and the strives I make to and improve my character daily through what I call "small victories": small things that can be done to better myself and others daily. These are achieved through academic integrity and doing my part, to volunteer, mentor and help people any time presented the opportunity. My dedication to sisterhood in my opinion is rarely matched and is one I have been nurturing for years, starting as a Girl Scout, continuing to Girls In The Game program and most recently apart of a Sisters Inc, a mentoring/leadership program that I've had the pleasure to be involved with in for over six years and have been involved with on numerous levels; mentee, mentor, ambassador and alumni commitee. I've been afforded the opportunity to make life long friends, mentor girls, build self esteem and develop in my journey to being an all around model citizen. All of these programs not only showed me the importance of sisterhood but also scholarship and service, showing me that a real sister are those that will help you and will except your help back. A real sister is one who you never have to sacrifice your love of service you're your dedication to scholarship for and lastly love you like blood. Lastly I believe that my love of service is characteristic I believe that I can use to maintain the status of Alpha Kappa Alpha, from a young age my grandmother would preach to me "do unto others...". From a young I knew it was my responsibility to assist someone in need any chance I am given. As mentioned by Essa and Young, "Regardless of the extent or type of involvement, an involved parents is a far greater asset to the program than an uninvolved one, since planning, implementing, and evaluating becomes a team effort" (2003, p. 184).This program is a team work where three important players children, parents and teacher work together to achieve the goal of the program. Parents might contribute to the program in the following ways: 1. Excellent source of resources: Parents are an excellent source of resources to the program. Different parents have different expertise and skills which they can share with teacher and children and can be a part of the curriculum. For example, if any parents is working as yoga instructor, he or she can teach some basic yoga poses and techniques to the children which help children to be more focused. If any Parents is working in the health sector, may give talk to the children about basic health and hygiene practices. Parents working in the farming land can arrange short field trip for the children where they get the opportunity to see fruits and vegetables growing and by visiting the farm animals like cows, goats and chicken they also get the knowledge of the production of eggs, milk, cheese and other ... • 41. The Perfect Opportunity For Learning have a chance to discuss the problem(s) and their ideas. This discussion is the perfect opportunity for learning to occur. Stevens and Slavin (1995) explain the use of a "cognitive apprenticeship" in which students of different achievement levels work together to learn new material. Students with higher–level academic abilities are able to use their mastery of the concepts to give explanations to the other students, whereas, the lower students are able to use the scaffolding of their fellow classmates as a comprehension technique to understand the material. Cooperative learning is not always looked at as the best teaching method. Some researchers have shown a disadvantage in group work with student learning. Lower achieving students could fall behind due to their passive nature or lack of confidence (King, 1993). If the high achieving students dominate the group and discussions, the lower achieving students may not feel comfortable sharing in the discussion. In this instance, the learning opportunity could pass them by without anyone realizing the lack of understanding. Other shortcomings of cooperative learning is the time required for some groups to work cohesively and the inability to teach the curriculum in a small group Cooperative Learning setting (Good, Reys, Grouws, & Mulryan, (1989;1990). 2.2 Related Research When referring back to the topic of cooperative learning technique, a lot of efforts and steps were taken throughout the previous years, and there are ... • 49. Essay On Outliers By Malcolm Gladwell (–– removed HTML ––) Seong Hyun Kim(David) ELA 11 Most people normally bring about personal qualities when they think for the main components of success. However, Malcolm Gladwell, a famous writer, contradicts the assumption of people through the book, Outliers. Gladwell insists that extrinsic factors define success rather than the personal qualities. Nonetheless, Gladwell himself goes against the topic of Outliers in his assertion about hard working "if you work hard enough and assert yourself, and use your mind and imagination, you can shape the world to your desires". Although people should work hard to seize the opportunity for success, success actually came from extrinsic factors because opportunity of relative age gives physical and emotional advantages through appropriate timing for birth, opportunity to raise under the concerted cultivation increases one's practical intelligence, and opportunity to fulfill 10,000 hours of practice guarantees time to achieve success at every field. For first reason to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To begin with, 10,000 hours of practice is known as the minimal time to become a master in their own field. It's important to have 10,000 hours of practice, but most of people can't fulfill 10,000 hours of practice because they do not have an opportunity to get 10,000 hours. In the case of Outliers, Gladwell exemplifies Beatles to show the opportunity to get 10,000 hours of practice. Beatles could fulfill 10,000 hours of practice in Hamburg for an opportunity to perform for 270 nights in just over a year and a half. Consequently, the Beatles became outliers in their music. The lesson from Beatles is that people should seize an opportunity to practice 10,000 hours at their field. Otherwise, the success doesn't approach to individuals. Therefore, the opportunity to fulfill 10,000 hours of practice challenges Gladwell's suggestion of hard ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It takes into account student differences in "designing opportunities for each student to engage with information and ideas" (Tomlinson & Jarvis, 2009, p. 599) Criterion 1: Respect for individuals with diverse abilities, strengths, and goals (FULLY MET) "Differentiation provides a framework for responding to differences in students' current and developing levels of readiness, their learning profiles and their interests, to optimize the match between students and learning opportunities" (Tomlinson and Jarvis, 2009, p. 599). Research has supported that adjusting content, environments, processes and final products addresses students' differences. By incorporating differentiation in the classroom and school, students' needs are addressed more fully and opportunities to excel are given. Criterion 2: Provide for identification of out–of–school learning opportunities that match students abilities and interests (FULLY MET) A student might have an advanced knowledge of a subject that the teacher might "differentiate by helping a student develop a plan for an advanced independent project, perhaps consulting a professional within a specific field to develop appropriate ... • 57. Personal Reflection Essay On Friday September 22nd, I attend one of the sessions titled "Your degree is not a Pigeon Hole" conducted by Scott Mclean. To be honest, I was quite skeptical of the Faith and Arts Conference. I told myself that I would just go to have a paragraph or two to write about, but I would not be learning anything. I was greatly surprised by the presentation of Mr.Mclean. As I realized that through the simplicity of his presentation, what God was trying to tell me in my time of questioning in private was answered through a stranger I did not know. Mr. Mclean started by giving a brief summary of his academic path that would later explain his gratitude towards his current achievements. He was a medical major and he had only 17 credits left to complete his major's requirement, but he stooped as he realized it was not what he wanted to pursue anymore. From the beginning of his presentation Mr. Mclean grabbed my attention. Coming to Evangel, my goal was to do for years as a "Pre–law major" and later go to law school. Everyone back home knew that I was pursing that career path and needless to say that it is a great pride in our culture to have a lawyer in one's family. Now I am a senior and I have fought for a long time with not accepting that going to Law school was not what I wanted anymore. All I knew is that I wanted to help people and bring change to my country. I wanted to be the person that saw potential into people or things everyone ignored. Mr.Mclean explained how it was not ... Instructional Coaches And Teacher Librarians In the surprisingly positive aftermath of a recent interview with Scott Munro and a plethora of Elementary principals I was encouraged to present a proposal to you with regard to ways in which I may be able to offer my support as our district moves toward digital personalized learnings. It was both a stroke of genius and a gamble for the district to encode both Instructional Coaches and Teacher Librarians into more pivotal roles in the LIFT initiative. Both of those roles have an obvious and important presence in the new world order of digitally integrated schools and both groups perceive themselves as suffering from a mix of ambivalence and ambiguity within our district. By offering both collectives a voice in the development of a new framework for their jobs, you have been able to win back some of those that felt marginalized and clarified the road ahead for those more reluctant to change. That the district has taken the time to understand and listen before pushing forward with redefining what has been for many as much an identity as a profession is a testament to the district's effort and desire to not simply enforce change to do so in a thoughtful way. I primarily focused on serving in the Army but had a few distractions through the years. During the summer between my junior and senior year of high school, I decided it was time to talk to an Army recruiter and evaluate my options. My only desire was to join the Army; I had not given much thought to what exactly in the Army I would like to do. I had no idea or conception of an opportunity to serve in a position on the Army Staff at the Pentagon. After 19 years of service I was given just that opportunity. • 101. Technology And Technology The effect of the creation of the internet on individuals is hard to quantify. While it has led to many positive changes for society, many would argue it has only complicated our lives, but the increased access to learning and cultural resources and information is difficult to ignore as a source of self– improvement. In the essay "Project Classroom Makeover" Cathy Davidson discusses how students born in the information age interact differently with learning because of their experiences on the internet. Thomas Lethem also posits that changes in our environment, like the creation of the internet, change the art that we create in his essay "The Ecstasy of Influence: A Plagiarism." Even with these great resources, human nature does not always tend towards the self–improvement made possible by the internet and humans often self–organize to avoid it. In the essay "The Myth of the Ant Queen" Steven Johnson discusses how humans tend to group themselves up in ways that keep different types of people separate and aim to minimize personal growth and improvement. Fighting against this human tendency towards complacency, the internet has created incredible opportunity for individuals to improve themselves by learning and expanding their minds through access to global culture, free information, and instant social interaction without borders. Despite this, many people have ended up in internet communities where they do not see global culture, are given false information, and have interactions with only a very ideologically limited set of people. This can lead people to become more misinformed and hostile to ideas other than their own, so to fully take the opportunity granted by the internet, individuals must push themselves to not settle into any such narrowly defined community and to use the resources given to them. To understand why this self– motivation is so important, it is important to first understand how much opportunity the internet and technology provide. The advent of advanced computing technology and the rise of the internet have made a wide range of tools for self–improvement available for cheap or even free. One way that many of these tools allow for self–improvement is through exposure to pieces of culture that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Associations begin to form and the previously neutral stimulus is now the conditioned stimulus that can trigger a response (Cherry, 2015). The neural stimulus elicits no response before conditioning. In classical conditioning, unconditioned stimulus (US), unconditioned response (UR), conditioned stimulus (CS), and conditioned response (CR) play a big role. US is a natural event that triggers a response. UR is a natural response to unconditioned stimulus. CS is when after association, it triggers a response. CR is a learned response to a previous neutral change (Myers, 2008). It is through this that we can learn associations between events we cannot control. During the initial stage, acquisition happens which is when one links a neutral stimulus and an unconditioned stimulus so that the neutral stimulus begins triggering the conditioned response (Myers, 2008). Like many great scientific discoveries, classical conditioning was discovered on accident. It all began in the 1890s when a Russian psychologist Ivan Pavlov noticed that his dogs salivated whenever he would enter the room in response to being fed. They would salivate even when he did not have food with him. This made him begin researching why. • 113. College : Is The Juice Worth The Squeeze? College: Is the Juice Worth the Squeeze? Many students face internal battles during their college careers; sleepless nights, studying for exams, constant social issues, and the fear of not having a definitive career path. This all leads to the questions "why am I here"? "What is the true purpose of college?" Many writers have described these struggles in great detail. They feel the reward for overcoming these struggles is intellectual growth. This growth is achieved by challenging themselves, acquiring knowledge in multiple fields, and learning how to become an essential part of society. An effective way for students to achieve intellectual growth is by challenging themselves in several different ways. David Hodge, President of Miami University in Oxford, claims that college is a place for "intellectual collisions" to occur (qtd in "What is"). He emphasizes the notion that college is best served as a time to challenge the mind in several forms. Each student is placed in a competitive learning environment that undoubtedly helps mold teenagers into adults. College isn't easy, and nor should it be. Having professors who refuse to let students skate by allows them to obtain an understanding of what the professional world is like. Outside of college, young adults are unlikely to find an academic setting that is used primarily to enhance their intellectual prowess. The access to interacting with intelligent peers, guidance from experienced professors and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Pros And Cons Of Capitalization Capitalization We live in the era of Globalization, which refers to the international integration of goods, services, people, and money with the purpose of making an area more profitable or productive, or useful. This term sounds good for everybody. If we exchange all these components, the living of the global citizens raises, but this is not all true. In fact, this exchange originates more macrolevel issues globally, and with these problems, also microlevel issues. I'm not saying it has not been an effective way all these past years to benefit the population with a more worldwide opportunity to success, but has it been addressed correctly? Let's take a look to some of the problems that overrun our world. Many nations go blind with the idea of "producing" more profitable people for their countries' economic growth to the point that they strength up iceberg–issues in society, problems that only their top are known but their bottom are unacknowledged. When we explore these issues deeper we find that there is an inequality in human rights. One of the main rights that is not given in a same quality to everybody is education. For instance, students from wealthy families get the chance to go to good schools and universities, while students living in poverty have minimum chances to go to good schools or they don't even get the opportunity to attend college, as it has been proven to us in the podcast "Carlos doesn't remember", when Carlos is given the opportunity to attend a ... The Best Learning Opportunity At A Young Age In today 's day kids are not outside playing as much as they use to, compared to previous generations but in fact spend there life 's indoors with there faces glued to electronic devices. Today 's kids are growing up without being punished, spanked, grounded or even sat in a timeout corner for three minutes. According to Calvin College psychology professor Dr. Marjorie Gunnoe, " According to the research, children spanked up to the age of 6 were likely as teenagers to perform better at school and were more likely to want to go to college than their peers who had never been physically disciplined." When it comes to a child, brain development starts at a young age. The younger a child is taught these important lessons the more likely they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Outdoors children are able to having fun while they are consuming basic skills that are related to the development in a wide variety of a physical and mental way. Allowing children to develop, nature implies kids to be more self–disciplined, healthier, happier and smarter. In a teenagers mind the issue is that they wont do something if they don 't get something out of it. More and more kids are failing classes, dropping out of school and many not even making it to graduation. A lot of people just walk away from these kids thinking there just stupid and worthless. If you where to ask the teachers or parents of these students you would find out that most of these kids are not stupid, but actually in fact smart in different areas of school and have potential. What teachers and parents would tell you the problem is that they have become quit lazy, discouraged, lacking motivation, and drive. Just being your typical teenagers. This is a characteristic of the teenager years, called adolescents rebellion "Rebellion can cause young people to rebel against their own self–interests. It can cause them to engage in self–defeating behavior – refusing to do school work or even do as they are told by others. Although the young person ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In-Class Reflection Highlights of my activities: As a part of the required activities for the course EGR9220 "Teaching in Higher Education Practicum" at Villanova University, I have had the opportunity to teach a few sessions for CEE2105 for fall semester 2017, supervised by Dr. David Dinehart. On Wednesday November 1st, I recorded two lectures to be posted on the blackboard and viewed by students prior to their in–class session on the following Friday and Monday. I received the PowerPoint slides for those recorded session from Dr. Dinehart, however, added certain material to them with his consent. In particular, I added a nine– step problem solving procedure to be implemented during in–class sessions, 37 and 38. The total duration of the recorded sessions was about 26 minutes. The first recording was titled "Centroids of the composite areas", and the second recording was titled "Centroid of composite areas, lines, and volumes". On Friday November 3rd, I instructed two in–class problem solving sessions from 8:30' AM to 9:20' AM, and from 9:30' AM to 10:20' AM, both on the topic of centroids of composite areas. From the two in–class sessions, the second session was recorded and posted on the blackboard webpage as well. The problems and solutions for both sessions were provided by Dr. Dinehart, and per his request, I tried my best to comply with his formatting in writing of the material on the touchscreen. At the end of both sessions, questionnaires that were previously designed by myself were ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Physical Benefits Of Line Dancing Section B Line Dancing is fun, sociable and beneficial for the Youth Line Dancing is an activity that I recommend and encourage the youth to get involved with. Line dancing is a dance done to country music by a line of people (dancers) without partners, following a choreographed pattern of steps. Line dancing has been around, in one form or another, since before Christ. The type of dancing we do today evolved from the "Contra" dance that is an old style and was very popular from the early 1800's in the New England States. The style in the 1800's was that two lines of dancers would form with women on the one side and men on the other. The men from the one side would partner with the women from the side between the two lines and usually do their own routine down the middle and when that pair was done and reached the end of the lines, they would separate and move back into their respective line, then the next pair would do the same and so on. Then in the 1970's, the style of line dancing we do today was formed. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 137. New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners Essay New Learning Opportunities for Adult Learners The concept of adults as learners emerged both in this country and in Europe shortly after World War I; however, only in the last few decades has the theory of adult learning matured. Knowles, Tough, Houle, and Park, among others, have written extensively on the idea of the adult learner. In Tennant's book (1997), he discussed Knowles' adult learning theory. Knowles used the term andragogy to label adult learning theory. The andragogical model of the adult learner is based on the assumptions that adults need to know; adults have a need to be self–directed learners and have a self–concept of being responsible for their own decisions and for their own lives; adults bring reservoirs of ... It is easily accessible, it supports flexible storage and display options, it provides a simple yet powerful publishing format and a means to incorporate multiple media elements (Henke,1997). The possibilities of Web–based instructions are boundless and seems to have the potential to meet the needs of adult learners. The WWW can provide stimulating material to enhance and enrich the learning experience by using graphics, sound, video and virtual environments. It supports learning in 'own space, own pace, and own time' (Henke,1997). It has limitless possibilities of interactive computer multimedia instruction. The potential benefits include personalized instruction, active learning, instant feedback, real world simulation, as well as faster and more effective teaching and empowerment of learners (McManus, 1995). With all these benefits, WWW as an instruction delivery medium can indeed enhance learning and meet the needs of adult learners. In addition, media are not mere vehicles that deliver instruction but they are important components of the learning process. Studies have shown certain media attributes are necessary for specific learning tasks, learning situations, and learners' characteristics. Web–based learning provides flexibility, ... • 141. The Perfect Opportunity For Learning have an opportunity to talk about their ideas. This discussion is the perfect opportunity for learning to happen. According to Stevens and Slavin (1995) "cognitive apprenticeship" is elaborated in that, students of different levels of achievement work together to learn. Students with higher–level academic abilities are able to use their own understanding to explain to the other students, whereas, the lower students are able to use the explanation from their fellow classmates to understand the material. Cooperative learning is not always viewed looked as the best teaching method. Other researchers have shown a disadvantage in group work with regard to teaching students. Slow learning students may lag behind due to their passive nature or lack of confidence (King, 1993). When the quick learning students dominate the group and discussions, the lower achieving students may not feel open and free to contributing in the discussion. In this case, the learning opportunity could pass them by without anyone noticing the lack of understanding. Other limitations of cooperative learning is the time required for some groups to work in unity and unable to teach the curriculum in a small group Cooperative Learning setting (Good, Reys, Grouws, & Mulryan, (1989;1990). 2.2 Related Research When referring back to the topic of cooperative learning technique, a lot of efforts and steps were taken throughout the previous years, and there are still a lot of works that can be done on it too. ... • 145. Descriptive Essay About Going To The City Leaving home to come to a city so far away for college was one of the hardest decisions that I've ever been faced with. I was excited at first, but when the time came around of my leaving, nervousness started to come the surface. I was excited because this would be the opportunity for me to spread my wings and leave the nest, but I was nervous because I had never been so far away from my family. I had always been in close proximity of their reach. I was nervous because I would no longer be able to just run home and hide from my problems, I would have to face the real world, I would have to face the things I've been sheltered from my whole life. My decision changed on the regular basis, I never really had a set plan although I had visited the University of Cincinnati multiple times and I had traveled around the city and I fell in love with it. I never saw myself moving across the city because of how sheltered I was but I knew that I needed to break away. A day came where I decided to devote time to calculate the costs of each school to see which one would fit my financial budget. I liked how the University of Cincinnati's tuition was relatively cheaper than my initial top choices. The final straw of making my decision was that the city itself as well as the school was very diverse, which gave me a sense of belonging. I gathered enough information to make me want to come to the University of Cincinnati, but I didn't gather enough information on calculating the costs. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Getting to know these students feels like such a blessing, it makes me yern for my chance to lead the team. I find myself becoming a little sad that I only have four more observation days with them. Its hard to make a connection and start a relationship when you know you will probably never see them again. But its all about being thankful for the now, so I will appreciate my opportunity to get to know them and try not to get too attached to them. These kids are all amazing in their own way, regardless of the challenges they encounter along the way they are all special. I dont know all of the students backgrounds but its amazing how much an unstable home life can affect a students learning. I have always worked with students at the Crestone Charter school and its such a titght nit community that even when students struggle there is always someone there looking after them and when new situations arise we pull together to help the student succeed. In this situation as a teacher you have no outside control or connection with these studetns. You are blessed with a few hours a day for a short period of time and then you never see them again. You cant really help their social situation or improve their home life. I have realized that for some, the only structure and security they have is school and they count on that to bring something they dont get ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Have The Pleasure Of Teaching Maiyuki Druen Essay I have had the pleasure of teaching Maiyuki Druen for three years; as an 8th grader in Advanced Geometry, as a sophomore in Math 174 Dual Credit Pre–Calculus through Morehead State University, and currently as a junior in AP Calculus. In 8th grade, Maiyuki chose to arrive at school an hour earlier in order to take Advanced Geometry at the high school. She was by far the best student in the class, even though she was in a class of extremely bright freshmen and sophomore high school students. Constantly pursuing opportunities for herself, as a sophomore, she chose to take a dual credit class designed for juniors and seniors. She requested special permission in order to take this college level class as a sophomore, and it was granted based on her stellar academic record. She continues to push herself academically in my AP Calculus class. She accepts the challenging problems I assign to the class as an opportunity to further develop her understanding of the mathematics we are studying. She often spends time analyzing the different approaches to a problem in order to determine the best course of action, and will diligently work the solution discussing her results with her peers. Often I will observe her having a discussion about the problem solving process with a fellow student rather than just conferring about her solution. While actively engaging in class discussions, she will articulate beautiful solutions in such detail that even the most struggling students can ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
