2. 4G TECHNOLOGY
Abstract
• Wireless system widely used in most fields today
• Currently, new technology-4G, has overpowered
number of ongoing technologies like1G, 2G, 2.5G,
3G
• 4G is wireless system with wide area coverage
and high throughput
• 4G faster than 3G due to Orthogonal Frequency-
Division Multiplexing (OFDM)
• 4G uses a multi network functional device
software which is very helpful for multiple user
• Highly Cost effective -Data rate of 20mbps is
employed and mobile speed will be up
to200km/hr
• Frequency band is 2-8 GHz-gives the ability for
worldwide roaming to access cell anywhere
2
3. OFDM
• Known as Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing
• A technique for squeezing more data onto the same amount of radio frequency
• Reduces latency and interference
• Data is split up and sent via small chunks of frequency in parallel, therefore
increasing the capacity of the network.
3
4. MIMO
• Known as Multiple-input and multiple-output – another reason behind 4G
faster speed
• Improves communication performance by the use of multiple antenna
arrays at both the transmitter and receiver
• allows more data to be transferred without requiring additional
bandwidth or drawing more power
• 2x2 MIMO -most common configuration found in smartphones and some
tablets
•
• Due to different possibility of setups, one phone could provide faster 4G
speeds than another.

7. 4G-Merits
• completely data based network, allowing more data to pass through network
• Faster speed
• uses a multi network functional device software which is very helpful for multiple
user
• machine-to-machine communication
• maintain high bandwidth rates while physically moving
• stay connected to the Internet without any disruption
• have easier access to services and applications
• increase the level of user-customizations
7
8. 4G –D’Merits
• Equipment has not been fully developed for network
• Network has more complex security issues
• Network protocols and standardization have not been defined
• Not many areas have 4G service yet
• Rural areas and many buildings in metropolitan areas still not being served
well
• Battery usage is more, hard to implement and need complicated hardware
8
9. Conclusion
• Recent research focus has shifted to the development of fourth-
generation (4G) mobile systems due to evolving wireless communications
technologies
• Due to increased popularity of the mobile devices, mobility management
became an important issue in 4G – Network
• Mobility management protocol including vertical handoff support which
enables the users to move between different types of networks-a major
challenge for mobility management
• New techniques are needed to manage user mobility between different
types of networks.
