The Sacrament of Reconciliation, also known as Confession, allows individuals to be freed from sins committed after Baptism. Through Confession, people acknowledge their sins, repent, and ask God for forgiveness, restoring God's grace to their souls and strengthening their ability to resist sin. There are two types of sins - venial sins, which are minor offenses that do not deprive one of sanctifying grace, and mortal sins, which are grave offenses that cause damnation without forgiveness. The sacrament involves confessing sins to a priest, receiving a penance, praying an act of contrition, and hearing the priest's absolution in the name of the Trinity.
