Reducing services latency is pushing centralized computing power back to the edge of the network, and in this paradigm telecommunication companies are well position to fill the gap. Telefónica is utilizing open-source OpenNebula and ON.Lab's ONOS and CORD to prototype a new generation of Central Offices that are fully IPv6 compliant and allows for the deployment of programmable services rather than the traditional black box solutions provided by proprietary solutions.

Multiple ways of building hybrid clouds on KubernetesJanos Matyas
There has been a lot of talk about hybrid-clouds over the years. We think that beneath the buzzwords lie some very important use-cases driven by the needs of enterprises and SaaS providers. However, delivering and operating hybrid-clouds and creating a seamless operational experience has been too complex for most organizations. This is - in part - due to the observation that there can be different hybrid-techniques that are best for different needs. We present 4 different approaches to building hybrid clouds on Kubernetes: cluster groups, federation, service mesh and a custom K8s cloud controller.

Edge Computing: A Unified Infrastructure for all the Different PiecesCloudify Community
Edge Computing along with 5G promises to revolutionize customer experience with immersive applications that we can only imagine at this point. The edge will include PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications; requiring containers, virtual machines and bare-metal compute. But while edge computing promises numerous new revenue streams, managing and orchestrating these edge infrastructure environments is not going to be a seamless, instant process. In this webinar, experts in NFV orchestration discuss the concerns you must address in the transition to the edge, and show how you can use available open source tools to create a single management environment for PNFs, VNFs, and mobile-edge applications.

For the past few decades, telecommunications networks have been built using closed-source monolithic products from network equipment vendors. Today, Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) are disrupting the way telecommunications networks are being built and operated and are gradually becoming the foundation of modern networking. The introduction of virtualisation, automation and orchestration provides the basis from which the networks will evolve towards a Zero-touch Orchestration, Operations and Management (ZOOM) target.
This presentation highlights the prominent role of open source and Red Hat’s portfolio in the implementation of future networks.

The edge computing industry is increasingly using cloud technologies for seamless migration of workloads across edges and clouds. For seamless mobility workloads, K8s is a key requirement for all CSPs. Also, K8s is can be a good workload orchestrator for all deployment types (VMs, containers and functions). This panel will discuss existing work and novel ways of realizing a converged network function & edge computing application platform across distributed clouds using the extensibility of the K8s ecosystem. This work is currently happening in ONAP as part of the Edge Automation effort and we see this impactful to other open source efforts such as Akraino, K8s Edge WG etc.

The Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) Serverless Working Group - with participation from IBM, AWS, Microsoft, Red Hat, VMware, Nuclio, Serverless Inc., Huawei and many others - has been working on an open eventing specification and mapping the state of the serverless landscape, including the features of public cloud serverless platforms and the capabilities of on premises and open source Functions-as-a-Service projects. In this lightning talk you'll hear about those efforts, see the newly published whitepaper on serverless use cases, and learn how you can help steer serverless adoption through participation in the CNCF.
The CNCF point of view on Serverless
Presentation at Serverlessconf NYC on October 11, 2017.
https://nyc.serverlessconf.io/
The CNCF Serverless Working Group - with participation from IBM, AWS, Google, Huawei, Red Hat, VMware and many others - has been working on guidance to help end developers understand serverless computing. relative to other cloud-native deployment options such as container orchestration (for example, Kubernetes) and Platform-as-a-Service (for example, Cloud Foundry and OpenShift). A soon-to-be-published whitepaper aims to educate users about the right workloads for serverless, help them make sense of the landscape of service providers, and recommend open source projects for inclusion in the CNCF. In this lightning talk you'll hear about our work and learn how you can help steer serverless adoption and project support from the CNCF.
Serverless architectures are rapidly gaining interest from developers but it can be hard to understand when a serverless platform makes the most sense for their next application and how long a given provider might be around to support their apps. The CNCF aims to help users learn about serverless and support emerging open source projects that can run, debug, and monitor the next generation of cloud-native applications.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
