VANCL is China's leading internet-based apparel retailer. This detailed case study examines VANCL's digital marketing, branding, operations and financing.
Though a market leader in China, VANCL remains largely unknown in the outside world. To date, much of what is written about VANCL is in Chinese, and much of this material omits important aspects of VANCL’s business model and operations.
There are several reasons for digital marketers and other eCommerce observers to take note of VANCL:
*VANCL will receive a multi-billion dollar IPO on the NASDAQ within the next 24 months
*VANCL currently ships to over 80 countries globally and is likely to emerge as a global apparel and internet competitor over the next two to five years
*VANCL’s product and marketing strategies are highly innovative and provide valuable case studies for other e-retailers
The following presentation draws together public research and comment to provide the English language reader with an “advanced primer” on VANCL and the Chinese market. It should be of use to digital marketers, electronic retailers and financial analysts beginning coverage of the firm.

Airlines will carry 35 Million WiFi-enabled monthly passengers by 2012 and can drive significant ancillary revenue through their new WiFi platforms by partnering with digital media firms.
Current airline WiFi fee-based revenue models will likely limit a tremendous potential content delivery, advertising, digital media, and location-based service opportunity.
Airlines need to take control of the content platform offered through IFE screens and travelers’ mobile devices and partner with digital entertainment companies to deliver digital movies, eBooks, and more not just in-flight, but around the flight.

1) A base model at $525, a premium model at $600, and a luxury unlocked model at $800.

Realizing A Personalized Shopping ExperienceChris Shaw
- The average U.S. citizen over the age of 12 spent more than 100 hours in 2011 accessing content on wireless devices, such as smartphones, computer tablets and e-readers.
- The average person spends about 400 hours per year on the internet, with about one-quarter of the time is spent on social media sites.
- Over 285 million mobile phones were operating in the U.S. in 2011, of which about 34% were smartphones and consumer end users will make up the majority by 2016.
- Over 600 million tablets will be in use worldwide by 2016.
These customers now expect all information, contacts, news, applications, services and products to come to them in any easy-to-access location, personalized and customized to suit their individual needs. To deliver these experiences, organizations will need to design content and services that can feed all channels used, whether it is field sales, a store location or the Internet (presented on any device, site or platform). The rising sales of iOS applications have shown that usability and convenience are of real value.

Small Business Adoption of Payroll Direct DepositPaul McAdam
The document summarizes key findings from a survey of over 2,000 small businesses regarding their use of direct deposit for payroll purposes. It finds that while awareness is high, only about half currently use direct deposit. Key motivators for users include time savings, cost effectiveness, and employee demand. Non-users indicate they would be most receptive to messages addressing the latter barrier. On average, direct deposit users enroll 83% of employees, though full participation can be challenging.

GDC 2012: The Rise of Free-to-Play Core GamingMitch Lasky
The document discusses the rise of free-to-play (F2P) games as a disruption in the core video game industry. It states that F2P removes barriers to access and transforms games into long-term services through microtransactions. F2P allows games to find an audience through free distribution and generate revenue through optional virtual goods purchases from a subset of players. The success of F2P depends on factors like great game design, robust e-commerce systems, data analytics, and social marketing. Emerging F2P publishers now have an opportunity to build multi-title platforms and compete with traditional incumbents.

Introduction of Cybersecurity with OSS at Code Europe 2024Hiroshi SHIBATA
I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.
I'll share insights into how the Ruby and RubyGems core team works to keep our ecosystem safe. By the end of this talk, you'll have a better understanding of how to safeguard your code.
HCL Notes and Domino License Cost Reduction in the World of DLAUpanagenda
Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/hcl-notes-and-domino-license-cost-reduction-in-the-world-of-dlau/
The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Don’t worry, we can help with all of this!
We’ll show you how to fix common misconfigurations that cause higher-than-expected user counts, and how to identify accounts which you can deactivate to save money. There are also frequent patterns that can cause unnecessary cost, like using a person document instead of a mail-in for shared mailboxes. We’ll provide examples and solutions for those as well. And naturally we’ll explain the new licensing model.
Join HCL Ambassador Marc Thomas in this webinar with a special guest appearance from Franz Walder. It will give you the tools and know-how to stay on top of what is going on with Domino licensing. You will be able lower your cost through an optimized configuration and keep it low going forward.
These topics will be covered
- Reducing license cost by finding and fixing misconfigurations and superfluous accounts
- How do CCB and CCX licenses really work?
- Understanding the DLAU tool and how to best utilize it
- Tips for common problem areas, like team mailboxes, functional/test users, etc
- Practical examples and best practices to implement right away

Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity serverAntonios Katsarakis
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing. In a commodity server and a memory-resident workload, DLHT surpasses 1.6B requests per second and provides 3.5x (12x) the throughput of the state-of-the-art closed-addressing (open-addressing) resizable hashtable on Gets (Deletes).
