The national flag of India, known as the Tiranga or Tricolour, consists of saffron, white and green horizontal stripes with a navy blue Ashoka Chakra in the center. It was adopted on July 22, 1947 and designed by Pingali Venkayya. The saffron stripe represents courage and sacrifice, white represents truth and peace, and green represents fertility and auspiciousness of the land. When hoisting the flag, it should be made of khadi cotton or silk and certain protocols like facing the flag and not letting it touch the ground should be followed.
