This chapter discusses balance and the elements that contribute to balanced movement, including bones, muscles, the brain and nervous system. It emphasizes that aligned balance feels more effortless than misaligned balance which requires more muscle activity. To improve balance, one needs awareness of their movements, strong and coordinated muscles providing balance, and mental confidence in their ability to balance. Exercises that challenge balance like balancing on balls can improve overall balance and confidence. The body uses various sensory mechanisms and reflexes, as well as the eyes and vestibular system in the ears, to determine balance. Training these systems can enhance one's ability to balance.
